some recent articles said sony has a hardon for high metacritic scores. And days gone has one of the lowest scores from any sony game. Thats why they canned the game. Plus it went overbudget
Totally incorrect qqq. Endtimes zombie open world games are nice and the story is nice too. Bikers, surviving, dubious experiments, finding out how it came to the zombiesituation and ofc finding a babe. Classic but good.
Also more surviving aspect than most open world games where its about collecting and shooting without thinking about anything.
Really? The story is not original well the biker thing is new. I played it for a few hours, got bored and that's it. A clear consolitis with stupid mashing key cinematic parts, I always hated that, its a clear console shit mini game that is not needed in a PC game. Well I remember one game that had this stupid system on Amiga but to the extreme, stupid Dragons layer.
The first weapons you have access to are such garbage, it's ridiculous how much my offensive capability was increased by getting the MWS from Tuck's camp. The LMG at rank 3 is probably a similar increase in killing power.
Finally, the camera issues with the mouse were quite annoying. Makes me wonder if anyone in QA played the game with a kb+m setup.
I'm currently 20 hours in on Hard I and it's a little bit too easy once you leveled up and have access to the better weapons, I'd definitely advise to play on Hard II.
Survival sounds like fun because there is no hud and more dangerous enemies, but searching for fuel, ammo and scrap is just too tedious for me. And no fast travel...I guess that would work in a really interactive world like RDR2 but there is almost nothing to do in Days Gone besides the missions.
Makes me wonder if anyone in QA played the game with a kb+m setup.
They did.
They just didn't 'detect'' the issue.
Not everyone is master CS 1.6 first person shooter master-race being with superhuman instincts that can instantly measure internally in pixels how much the mouse moved.
Damn cheater. I hope you don't do this is MP games...
I understand the 'frustration' regarding the motorbike fueling for SOME people. But - FOR ME - it adds another dimension to the experience. It's like a minigame by itself. I estimate distances, plan courses and use fast travel with fuel in mind. It's like a simple but engaging and (whoa!) immersive little math game.
See how different we are?
See? SEEEEEE?!?!
lol. For me, it isn't so much the frustration (well, sometimes it is...Looking at you every damn game that requires a friggin "racing" series that I suck at)...but more the lack of time in a busy household as to why I sometimes do. That and getting bored. If a game requires too much of crafting and I start to find myself not staying hooked, I'll cheat just to add in things so I can finish quicker.
The library isn't getting any smaller, I'm not getting any younger, the kids are getting fewer as they move out, which is a plus though, but I also find myself working on other things in the evening unlike when I was younger.
And I would never think of doing that in a MP game. In fact, I tend to stay away just because I suck at MP games. Every now and then I do play Diablo 3, Elite Dangerous and once in a blue moon, RDR 2 and GTA 5, but even all of those, I tend to stay away from others.
The last 30% of the game picks up a bit. There's still inconsistency in writing (some quite severe, like how the virus spreads and how nobody gets infected) and plenty of cheapness, but at least there are some interesting missions. The secret ending was quite intriguing.

I never, ever rev my engine (accelerate) on descending slopes, old man. The bike goes on by herself 50% of time.
You should know by now how to conserve energy at your age. /smh
I had a first attempt at defeating a horde, holy shit I suppose you need to keep that stuff for the end game
I defeated such horde while only having a pistol.
Spoiler:
Lured the mass together in a narrow pass, 3 x molotov'ed their asses, ran, picked up separately the remaining ones with pistol, melee, explosive barrels and whatever I could find around.
There's a huge caveat from what I could notice. You have to wait for the crosshair to become small to do maximum damage.
The guns sound great. There are sound effects echo, reverberation, ricochet, etc. The only thing is missing is the supersonic crack. In general, the audio design is fantastic with one exception that I could notice because it was waaaaay off.
Finished the campaign and loved it, it has flaws but it's definitely a great game.
Seeing that I still encounted several mission breaking bugs that required me to reload, I can only wonder how shitty the release was on PS4 back in 2019.
I just finished the road trip through the isozombielands as well, it's a mutant hybrid that combines the console DNA of multiple console games like digital duct tape but..it works for what it is (barely). There's some Calancy's Wildlands in it, a few drops of Mad Max, a pinch of nuMafia, bits of State of Decay and more stuff borrowed from Ubisoft, it's like when you go to the restaurant and order the popamole soup of the day.
The game's primary quality is the atmosphere, which comes across as believable despite the repetitive open world designed to satisfy your typical checklist entrepreneurs. The great visuals and presence of random angry flesh-eating men contribute to making the core experience slightly more interesting than your usual busy work. Although the realistic-ish tone with lite survival features is a plus, there are arcadey elements hamfisted into it such as the silly paranormal Batman sections or the press-mb2-to-lock-on bike combat that unnecessarily dilute the experience. The rather generic missions don't help either, but at least it's a simple zombie story with no agendas ruining the day - melodrama and Mr. perpetually mumbling St. John notwithstanding. Just make sure to take supplements to digest the corniness of some of its parts
To preserve an acceptable level of tension I switched to the HUDless Survival mode, the only way to provide some basic challenge despite the AI's ability to alternate brainless moments with psychic ones. Riding a motorbike that uses 500 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres was an artificial nuisance more than anything else and so it was the ridiculous weapon degradation - thankfully, mini-mods can fix that by implementing more reasonable values: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/52 + https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/60 + https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/44 (plus several others targeting engine speed, aiming precision etc.)
Ultimately, the game is a ~7/10 time-wasting experience in my book, less annoying than its recent Ubi-like siblings and helped by the objectively solid porting job. Now give us that bloody Bloodborne, Sony.
Finished it as well and enjoyed it for what it was, it definitely offered a solid presentation and tone that could distract from the very basic side camp missions. It's definitely a step above the ubiworlds, can hardly get myself to touch valhalla.
I didn't find the story to be that bad either, characters seemed believable.
I've tackled a few hordes and that's where shit really hits the fan in a fun mess. Planning your attacks, setting up traps then seeing if you can lead the horde through your masterplan or them just swarming you from all directions and fucking your shit up is where the game really shines. I think I'm gonna fire it up once in a while just to tackle a horde or two every once in a while now that I finished the story.
I was enjoying the first half, but my interest level is starting to plummet and I am at the point I just want to finish it already.
The gunplay is relatively enjoyable.
The atmosphere is there, for the most part.
The graphics are better than average. I can see some love put into certain elements, like the weather and light effects.
The zombie mechanics work, with the hordes being the high point.
Some characters shine above the rest. Big Mike being a standout for me.
And as a motorcycle rider, I appreciate the attention to detail with the hands of the characters actual moving the clutch and throttle, even if some clipping occurs during the animation.
I've made it to
Spoiler:
the military camp and found Sarah
but at this point the rinse and repeat fatigue is really starting to set it. Hoping I am nearing the end of this journey.

Unfortunately it only works for new games or very early in the game, not anymore once the hordes have spawned.
Once you defeat all hordes you have the option to reset the hordes again, that might also work.
Even without mods, there's more than enough of them. Not even the biggest horde.
No performance issues, though.
hordes go from 100 to 500. This is 300 if I remember correctly...
Oh and what a shit mission. Mike shows you "oh look, the horde, what do we do". And You already killed like 15 hordes by that time
