To me, if you are on youtube (exclusively) and reporting on world events..you are not a journalist, you are a youtuber with opinions. If sitting in a chair talking about things is too much for you. PERHAPS you decided to do the wrong line of work trying to cosplay a journalist.
Some actual journalist have travelled to war torn areas, with troops in wars and documented first hand the things they saw, and travelled to dangerous/disparaged countries and reported on important social, economic, and societal issues.
And granted not all of them made it out the other side unscathed...but if pressure from 'some people are mean, and sometimes I miss a comment in my twitch chat, and it's a lot of pressure' causes you to break down. You might want to find a better job for what you can handle than reporting to the masses on the world and its situations as a whole. |
Another pro with non-YouTube journalism : I don't have to suffer their personal diaries, on a broadcast for everyone to read and comment - perpetuating the vicious cycle. Perhaps it's my rather discreet nature, but I'm not comfortable with such displays and not sure turning to the source of your uneasiness for comfort is a slippery route. I don't really want such an emotional attachment to my information source, I don't find much good would come out of that for both sides. I wish this guy all the best, but I just can't watch this kind of stuff - perhaps I could if I had a deeper connection to the guy, I don't know.

Same. I dont want a connection, or vibe, or whatever you would called it where you feel they are more than a name that delivers your news. I want to like/respect them as a journalist, not as a 'person' because they say things I agree with.
I dont want to know about their opinions on what they are delivering nor do I care to know if I agree/disagree with the one they have.
I don't want snark, or condescending; nor praise and pandering to whoever/whatever they are reporting. Report it as journalist, not try to 'get on my side' with comments with attitude on it.
But I guess that doesn't get eyes anymore. Neutral news reporting without a hand reached out to shake with on that you agree with them is boring, bland, its like reading a newspaper. This new way of news is addictive and reaffirming (even if in a echo chamber way) compared to it, it 'feels good' when its conveyed as someone they agree with, not just someone informing them.
Why I keep beating the horse about good newscasters and journalist are gone, since 24/7 news and youtube. No more: Walter Cronkite, Peter Jenning, Tom Brokaw, Ted Koppel, Dan Rather etc (all USA ones, but only one I know..).
To me its the difference of watching a senate hearing on CPSAN vs CNN/FOX. One lets you know exactly what's going on objectively (but boring..its like being there). The others beat you over the head on what you need to think is important.
Journalist today want to be bad tour guides of the news, pointing out things they deemed important with their own flair on it, as they cruise past the things they think are unimpressive.
