So question here. Feel like im going crazy.

Anyway, so i got the 65CX + the old atmos sony soundbar HT 9000 (connected to earc), and i've tried everything to get actual atmos sound.

If you play movies directly on TV via usb stick / hdd = "no sound available" as in it doesnt take the atmos track, it gets the ac5.1 or whatever it is from the remuxes.

If i stream via PLEX from my PC to TV then i see it transcodes TrueHD7.1 to EAC when pulling up the info... plus subtitles dont work in plex, if i try to enable them its forever buffering. great.

Only way i think it actually works is if i connect my PC directly to my TV via hdmi and play movies like that while using Dolby Atmos for home theater from windows10 and passthrough in software like power-DVD.

Is there anything i've missed?

LG saved a couple of bucks by removing codec support in the new series Rolling Eyes Easiest would be using Plex and disabling subs, if you use subs Plex seems to transcode video as well. Wouldn't something like an Nvidia shield work?
Transcoding the sound on PC first is also a relatively easy option.

If you have pass through or automatic enabled in the audio settings but you receive the no sound available when trying to play your file via dlna share, then it might really be that they removed codes (but why?). Dolby Atmos from the Tenet release plays fine (and sounds amazing!) on my 65B9.

I have an E8 (so two years earlier version). The past couple of years I ran in to all sorts of similar issues.

Here's what I suggest (from bazillions I tried), that works well for me:

0. eArc is good for transmitting true Atmos, so that point is not a problem.

1. Test built in apps Netflix and Amazon for Atmos content, and check if it can output Atmos. If yes, then move to point 2 (if you test this, I think all will be well)

2. Use DLNA to stream movies to your TV (so not Plex - but you can disable all sorts of transcoding on Plex as well). Before I had my NAS, I used Serviio from PC, and that was by far the best for me - but disable ALL transcoding - and you should always do this with all modern equipment.

I never had a problem decoding anything you mentioned, when I streamed via DLNA and NO transcoding enabled.

Try it out, and let me know. I have other ideas as well.

It won't work since the TV won't process or pass through the signal in any way. Stupid company removed support in the X series. He also can't simply use Plex if he wants subs, Plex transcodes video as well in that case.

That sucks! Til now I blindly updated my TV. I guess they could remove the codecs that way too?

Im getting also the lg65CX. I have now a samsung tv from 2015. Im using universal media server for streaming movies. On my tv i have the Logitech Z-5500 speakerset. That speakerset does only support normal dolby 5.1 and DTS. If i play on my Samsung dolby 5.1+ or dolby atmos it can still play them as normal dolby 5.1 tracks. Can the lg does this as well? And do i get also problems with external subs?

@Yondaime when I was making a choice between C9 and CX I've read plex would always transcode video no matter what sub format you'll use. Maybe plex got an update? Or I might be remembering wrong. I just hook up my USB SSD to my C9 and everything works.

The main thing is using external subs, instead of included ones, ie. separate file instead of being part of mkv container.
If you use external ones then Plex won't be forced to transcode, with included subs it will.

I am going to buy the C1 soon in the next months, can I transmit DTS:X via EARC to my receiver?

I heard LG dropped DTS's support but I got curious if there are workarounds and the lack of DTS support is only for TV's amplifier only.

No DTS from X series onward, not even passthrough. No workarounds, no fixes. The passthrough thing could be a bug, but I assume it's intentional since it would've been fixed by now otherwise. If you need DTS, get the 9 series. I did.

Looks like DTS support has been dropped on the newest models of Samsung and Sony as well Sad

I guess it's outdated format or something.

I just tested the infamous no dts support.

While the C1 indeed won't play dts audio or even passthrough to eARC directly via usb stick, using the likes of plex helping bypassing the issue.

I literally managed to play dts audio via plex on my LG C1, I guess its transcoding it to supported tv format.

Its simpely transcoding it to AC3 or PCM so the tv can recgonize it, the reciver can retranscode to DTS.

It's kinda shame they dropped DTS, it's great TV overral.

Anyway, DTS is mostly format for Blueray movies though, no streaming service or games actually using it.

What I do like is you can Miracast to the TV your PC, and my PC conntected to reciver AND you can controll it via the magic remote of the TV, so you can play the movie form your PC and your TV is basically huge display, all the benefits of the screen with DTS and any mediaplayer you want Mr. Green
