I haven't noticed anything like that. Have you done a traceroute to the site or a "ping -t www.nfohump.com"?

In a couple of weeks I'll try from another ISP and see if there's any difference.

Something has been fucky with the hump for a couple months at this point.

 Spoiler:

Apart from the spike in response time every couple pings (that's on my end), there are times when the site doesn't respond at all for minutes at a time, then it starts working again for a bit, then goes away again, totally randomly. During these moments threads usually stop loading before it reaches the bottom, and we end up with half-loaded pages.

I did ping thing while pages were loading up slowly and there seem to be no requests time out...

Could it be one of the addons is causing the slowdown?

Hmm, so that's why the problem isn't fixed yet... cuz admins and mods don't have it ! Mad Razz

Whatever the problem is, the only one who can look into it is Mrt since no one else has access to the intimate naked bits of the Humps. Let's hope our ceremonial dances can prompt him to log in one of these days.

Strange. I HAVE experienced slowdowns and page timeouts (not caused by my connection) but it's been quite a while since I experienced any such issues at all (months).

I could guess at reasons why; server is automatically running some timer-based automated database trimmer/cleaner or "defragging" tool or something similar. Only mrt would know (or the host).

My shitass chacer 5930 was shitting itself with palemoon (browser), so today I gave firefox a go and so far not only it runs much lighter on that system, but the site is much more responsive.
Fingers crossed.

Visited the forum for a few days on a connection from a different ISP, no issues. If it happened to me alone, I'd say it's something with my original ISP but since there's more folks with apparently the same issue, probably not.
Meanwhile, it continues half loading pages whenever. Great.

Maybe it's between where you guys are and the host, and not forum itself?

Only my singular observation but I havent had issues with it in months. But feel if it was forum related it would effect all equally?

To people having issues, do pings to measure latency and/or dropped packets. If there are spikes in latency or dropped packets it's the route between your PC and nfohump, not the nfohump server.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>ping www.nfohump.com -t

If you find any issues (latency spikes or packet loss) in the ping result, do a traceroute to see where the problem lies:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>tracert -d www.nfohump.com

Remove the -d if you want to see the host addresses.

@Toni,

Not through the whole day but most of the time. No problems on other sites whatsoever. Strange issue. Confused

It sounds like your ISP's keep prices down by over-extending their capacity (without upgrading it) by over-booking the number of customers that use the same ISP. It's a common practice and a decade or so ago most ISP's did it up here as well and it made sense, at least as far as economy was concerned.

The available bandwidth is limited and also expensive for an ISP to upgrade since they rely on renting bandwidth on the big backbone networks that all internet traffic use. They obviously put that cost on the customers to make a profit while also being able to keep their fees as low as possible. Some cheaper/smaller/poorer ISP's will take more customers than their available bandwidth can handle and at certain times of the day more people tend to use the internet (after work, after school, streaming movies in the evenings and so on) which can lead to congestion. It may not be your ISP though, they may use a third party in-between that over-extend their bandwidth by selling more bandwidth than they actually have access to.. etc. etc. etc.

(so this is what my network tech/admin education is used for these days..? ) Laughing
