I have a Dell XPS gen 3 (yes its a dell hahah) and basically i have two 160 gig wd sata drives striped together. they use port 0 and 2

I am trying to add two additional drives i just got, 300 gigs each.

when i plug them in they register fine, after enabling the ports in bios, but they are set to non-raid and wont let me boot into windows. I have an option to hit crtl + I and create a new raid volume, bu i am afraid that i am going to loose all my data on original hd's.... I am very new to sata and raid since i owned ide hd's my whole life ... can someone please explain to me how to add these drives without causing any damage to my system.

Thank you very very much for the effort!

s.

huh, why did you make a new thread out of this? You definatly need that Matrix Storage Manager.

Do the following. Put in the hard drives, select them in bios as standard sata and none raid first. Then make sure that your current raid volume is set as first boot device and not one of the newly installed drives. Boot to Windows, install the Matrix Storage Manager and read the documentation on how to add additional drives to your raid volume.

You can get the manager here, like i posted before in your other thread Wink

Frist step is to turn on the extended view. You should see your array and the volume on it.
Right click (right clicking on every entry in the extended view is always a good idea with the storage manager Wink ) on the volumes name and you should be able to edit the current volume and add the hard drives. I have migrated from a 2 disk raid lvl1 to a 3 disk raid lvl5 this way. You can also contact intel support about it, they usually answer within 24h, check out the documentation as well.

ftp://download.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/manual55_web.pdf

Edit:
Thinking of it i'm not even sure if it's possible or if you have to make a second raid lvl0 array with the two new hd's wich would be a better idea anyway (data security)
