Is there any reason why you cannot use "gyroscope" only mode in like every other headset than Pimax, this is huge problem in exhibition usage where the headset should just work without any fiddling, rift / Quest / Vive all gets fucked up at somepoint, lightning changes, someone walks on the "play area" or just moon position is wrong, so god damn problematic and needs constant fiddling.
I made VR experience in UE4 that has main menu where you can choose from 5 different nature locations, it takes you to 360 stereo video (5248x5248 resolution), only thing what you can do is look around since its seated experience, so in other words it requires only gyroscope to work... It has been total nightmare to make it work without constant fiddling, only Pimax works flawlessy without any external base stations and controllers, every other headset will not even turn on if you dont install bases stations etc.. Pimax would be perfect, but it has too wide fov, it makes 360 video look bit odd on the absolutely outer edges.
pretty nice specs.. shit, i want that, eventually.. gonna get expensive since i need a new graphics card as well (will one be enough??) i think the resolution is kind of ridiculous actually.
What is the cheapest GPU I can reasonably get away with for VR?

Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!
I got away with a VEGA 64 for powering a Samsung Odyssey + with 2880 x 1600 and 90Hz and it was ok for most of the VR stuff including Alyx f.e. . Higher End Devices with better screens paired with Games with ramepd up settings will require much more GPU Power and even the CPU will start to play a role in keeping the min-FPS up. Its really important that the Frametimes stay low.
In modern GPUs that would be like 3060/6600XT/5700XT for entry level devices. You'd already have good enough results with lowered settings. I'd probably go for 3060Ti/6700XT/3070 (in that order) for better results. Or, if you are lucky enough to get one, go for 3080/6800XT to be safe.
I have a 6900XT now but thats because I lucked out in finding one at MSRP. (which is still very much too expensive, but heh, we only live once)

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Depends on the content.
-My daughter is running my old oculus on a 970. But she only plays beat saber, space pirate trainer, job simulator etc.
-My son runs my old valve index on a 1080ti. And plays a little more demanding ones and it does fine.
-I run a 6800xt with a Reverb G2, and is fine other than it struggles sometimes or has micro jitters now and then in really demanding games I play like Project cars, MS flight sim, iRacing (if a busy race), etc.

How do you find the G2? I’m thinking of getting one purely for sim use due to the clarity on the optics.
Any issues or compatibility problems getting games running?
I really like it. I prefer it over the index myself screen door is much better on it.
Its 90hz vs 120 in index. But no major issues for me, as most things I play index never got to 120 anyway and halved to 60. G2 sometimes goes to 45, but easier to keep it at 90 than the index was at 120.
And visually better. The video below cannot really give you a real world idea since its camera in a lens vs your eye. But it's roughly an analogy of the difference you see.
This video shows a decent 'what you get inside' representation on visuals, ghosting and such (minus the focus blurriness and color aberration outside of center from the camera in the lens):
(Jump to 4:15 for the actual comparisons).
For what I do mostly, racing and flying in it the distance clarity and sharpness is a BIG difference and improved experience. Simple games like beat saber and such you dont notice much difference between index and g2 unless you try to see it.
Game compatibility wise, no issues at all so far everything 'just works'.
Now the controllers that come with it are crap to me but so are the oculus ones, but I got spoiled by the valve knuckles. Luckily you can make the knuckles work with it.

Thanks DX, that's the video that put it on the radar for me. Flying and racing are all I would be using it for.
I use my sons Quest2 for the other type of games.
Shame I can't get the headset on it's own for a good price. It's actually cheaper at most places for the full kit!
Would be nice if they release the latest hardware version in the EU, I'm using a AMD mobo and cpu. I've heard some people have issues with AMD hardware.
So far I havent.
Both mine are AMD. 5600x CPU and 6800xt GPU and no issues I have noticed. But havent asked around or know a lot of friends with VR to have any real data other than my own on AMD and VR.

Cheers. I've got a quest 2. It's not something I'd use a lot, but I'd like the option to be available. I'll start digging around for cards

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell revealed they’re making “big investments in new headsets and games,” something he hopes will prepare the company for a future of brain-computer interfaces (BCI).
I never thought I would ever by a VR gimmick. But I hesitantly went to a VR café with my wife ... and then I instantly bought a Quest 2 the next morning.
I have to say, I am impressed. Screendoor effect is completely gone. Airlink works absolutely great with nigh unnoticable latency. A Quest 2 is completely affordable, and it is wireless, and it actually works well.
Halfway through HL: Alyx, and I am very, very immersed.
My single annoyance is the low FOV. Once you are immersed in the game, it is not that bothersome, but this is the only weakpoint.
Is the PS5 included in that 600 USD? If you need to purchase both PS5 and the headset, it will set you back around 1,000 USD.
I use my Quest 2 on the PC, works great. You can get it for around 300 USD. Of course there are better headsets, but then you also need the PC to support that. I am running a 2060 Super and the GPU seems to be ok for the resolution required. So depending on your system, you could go higher but in my opinion the Quest 2 is perfectly fine at this point and definitely the best bang for your buck.

Quest 2 is nice. Quest 3 is coming soon, i'd wait for that. The strap for Quest 2 sucks and you need to get another, well, if you're planning on playing for longer periods anyways. the one i got with an extra battery feels great, big improvement.
Quest 3 will have full color pass through, could be cool for mixed reality.
Since you have the PS5 you might want to look into the PSVR since supposedly it works for PC too.
