@ StrEagle
Yeah I am still testing everything. I tried to flash to the newest beta bios and installation froze at 50% and stayed there for 20 minutes. Had to reboot.
What is weird now is that it shows the new version in the bios but sometimes it will freeze the bios and I have to reset the cmos on the board.
I tried to reflash the previous version with the usb in the flash bios port in the back and that has not work either.
Now I dont know if I can just flash it normally over the newer version or should I wait for a newer bios version to come out.
I can still use the PC no issues once I have my settings setup ok but I cant go back into the bios as it will freeze again.
Any solution ot should I wait for a newer version ?
Using the 5950x
Thanks

Looking for motherboards and ram has gotten so much harder then the last time I had to with my i5-4670k. The ram seems to be the most confusing part with all the different speeds as someone mentioned I should try to get 3600 CL14 but that seems really hard to find and super expensive (maybe scalper pricing). Also if I want 32 gigs ram is it better to go with 2x16 or 4x8 with the Ryzen 5900x.
Below is what I am thinking I will go with so let me know if anyone has any opinions especially with the ram as it would be appreciated.
ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PRO (WiFi 6) $220
Noctua NH-D15 chromax.Black, Dual-Tower CPU Cooler (140mm, Black) $100
For the ram I was thinking between these
G.Skill 32GB DDR4 PC4-28800 3600MHz Ripjaws V for Intel CL16 (16-19-19-39) Dual Channel kit (2x16GB) Black $185
https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-PC4-28800-3600MHz-Ripjaws-16-19-19-39/dp/B07Z45XB3G/
Crucial Ballistix 3600 MHz DDR4 DRAM Desktop Gaming Memory Kit 32GB (16GBx2) CL16 BL2K16G36C16U4B (BLACK) $164
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083TRXZ98
G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM PC4-28800 DDR4 3600MHz CL16-19-19-39 1.35V Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC $220

@CaptnNemo try re-flashing to the current BIOS?
this is odd, usually all MBs have dual bios systems, avoiding such issues
@Areius I am using the latest MSI BIOS with no issues, as seen in my pictures above
@0wen using 4 single-ranked dimms yields grater gaming results than 2 dual-ranked dimms
I am using G.Skill Samsung B Die dimms with great success
get 3600 or 3800mhz ram with the lowest CL you can afford

I got all the parts ordered so now I am just waiting for them to arrive hopefully by the end of this week. I am going to use my current 1070 and 650 watt PSU but might try to grab the Phanteks Revolt Pro Series PH-P1000GC, 80PLUS Gold, Fully Modular, Patented Power Combo Technology, 1000W ATX Power Supply from Amazon when it is back in stock in a couple of weeks. I will probably have to wait for a stronger PSU before really trying overclocking but hopefully my current one will be strong enough to run the system. I am also going to try and get a 3080FE, 3080 EVGA FTW or a 3070FE during the next Best Buy drop next week.
Here is what I ended up getting:
CPU
AMD - Ryzen 9 5900X
Motherboard
ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PRO (WiFi 6) AMD AM4
Ram
Crucial 32GB Ballistix DDR4 3600 MHz CL16 UDIMM Gaming Desktop Memory Kit (4 x 8GB, Black)
Cooler
Noctua NH-D15 chromax.Black, Dual-Tower CPU Cooler (140mm, Black)
Case
Lian Li LANCOOL II Mesh Performance Mid-Tower Case (Black)

Updated: In a post on Reddit, AMD says they have found the root cause. Agesa 1.2.0.2 should provide solutions for problems with PCIe 4.0, USB port failure, and crackling audio over USB 2.0, among other things. Within a week, the new version of Agesa will be distributed to motherboard manufacturers. Users can expect beta versions of bios updates with Agesa 1.2.0.2 in early April. The precise date depends on the vendor's testing and implementation schedule, as well as the specific model.
edit:
new ram settings

MSI Issues AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS Updates for MSI X570/B550 motherboards: fixes USB issues
Quote: | If you want it, you can have it. AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS updates have been posted by MSI and cover their most prominent X570/B550 motherboards. This BIOS version addresses a bunch of issues, among them the discussed USB issues which should now have been resolved.
Please do note that the BIOS update is technically labeled as Beta. However, if you are among the people experiencing the USB issues, hey why not give it a go. More BIOS for other X570/B550 motherboards will be released. the first indication of people that had the issue, seem to be happy with the problems being resolved for them.
Notes:
Update to ComboAM4PIV2 1.2.0.2
Improved USB device compatibility

Is there difference between 1.2.0.1 and 1.2.0.2?
Asrock has beta bios that says
"1. Update AMD AGESA ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.1 Patch A
2. Improve USB compatibility"

afaik 1.2.0.2 only fixes the usb issues related to pcie4
maybe 0.2 is Patch A on 0.1 for ASUS

The bios update for asus rog strix 570 fixed the very very rare BSOD "Kmode Exception Not Handled" I was getting.

first link is 3600/CL16 - a medium ram
2nd link is 3800/CL14 - the creme de la creme for AMD..
$200 diff is understandable
if you're on a budget - 3600 with the lowest CL you can afford (be sure that it's even 14/16..)
if you can afford it - get the 3800/CL14
also good 3600/CL14 can reach OC 3800/CL14
you won't get much performance wise.. according to benches diff is ~1-2%
P.S: you'd better hurry, ram prices are on the rise

I would say its not either.
I went from 3200 to 3600 and see no appreciable difference in games. Maybe a few FPS here and there in the FPS counter (as in less than 5 more). Usually its more of the "I was getting 98-99 before, now I can do 99-100 for the 99 percentile frame average."

Thanks. I will see this weekend and decide.
Pretty new to AMD Ryzen World and just trying to catch up with everything and how it works.
EDIT: I have Corsair 3000 right now from my old intel setup

getting anything less than 3600 on a 5900X flagship would be.. wasteful
as I said - 3600 with the lowest CL you can afford (be sure that it's even 14/16..)

I ended up getting 2 of these sets to have 32 gigs total for my 5900x build last month and it has worked well.

Not sure if Gskill is worth the extra $110 for CL16 so it might be something to check out as well and if Amazon shows sold out B&H Phot should also have it in stock.
