You guys weren't kidding regarding the default fan profiles having the fans roaring as soon as you open a new tab Laughing
Already did something like what _SiN_ suggested and it's much better now.
But help me out here mens, which is active?

BIOS states that it's using XMP so I think the memory really is running @ 3.6GHz
EDIT: nevermind, ryzen master spilled the beans

Damn this Arctic Freezer II 360 is beast of a AIO for 100 euros, keeps 5900X like 15C cooler than NH-D15, silent aswell due to very good Arctic P12 fans.

I have a 4.2 OC on my 5900X idle temps are ~45° under load the highest i see are 74° with the D15

What were your temps on the D15?

I wouldn't pay too much attention to peaks. Or is that averages? You see the 84c often as "current" temp when playing?

82-84C peaks when loading
average is ~74-77C while playing
and my custom fan curve is 100% at 70C

I don't know where else to say this, since I need to talk to people who know a thing or two about PC components - I am seriously arguing with someone on Facebook who is telling a PC-buyer that a 9700k is better than a 5600X, since "Intel is better in games".

I have now given up.

Simply google up some 1080p benchmarks and send him those. But depending on the gpu, the difference might not be that big. 5600X is measurably faster though.

No need to argue with him though. Hardware is like religion for some.

Probably faster in single core performance, which most Intel chips are, but the 5600X is the better chip, not by much though, and it will vary from game to game.

The 5600X is most certainly faster than the 9700K in 99% of all single-threaded applications, from office to rendering. Its even faster than the 10700K in those applications. Very Happy

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-5-5600x-zen-3-review/5

In gaming there are a few instances where some 8-core CPU will pull ahead, like Total War: Troy or the odd Borderlands 3 that likes Intel CPUs for some reason, and they may get 0.something more FPS.

Bottom line though, in real world usage most people would be hard-pressed to even notice a difference between those CPUs.

edit: precision

So I had a weird issue today in which after booting into windows, explorer.exe wouldn't correctly startup. So I terminated it and launched it via task manager again, all good so far but then it turns out that the realtek driver was borked as it didn't register plugging in my headset as the audio 2nd output as usual. Which was fixed by a reboot.
Almost two weeks back I upgraded the f31o bios to the more recent f31, so out of curiosity I head back to the DL's to check out for an update and

Gigabyte at their best. Flaky BIOS + messing with things that break other things, then decide to pull the BIOS. They do it all the time. Last decent one for me is 30a, which I'm still on, since last August. everything else after that is borked.

Well, gonna wait a few days and follow the r/GIGANTE closely to see the feedback on this one before upgrading it.

No problems here @stock so far with:

- Mobo: GIGANTE (GIGABYTE) Aorus Elite x570
- Cooler: Noctua NH-D15SE
- RAmz: Gskill F4-3600C16D-16GVKC (2x8GB)

Just turned on XMP on bios and I was good to go, ratio'd at 1:1:1 1800 Smile

Thanks for some options, I plan to get 32 gigs ram (2x16GB) and was looking into one of those $100 AIO liquid coolers as it would be my first time trying that type of cooling but how is that air cooler, much noise? The search brings up a white and brown fan version, is that the one you use?

Get Arctic Freezer 360 II, best AIO for the money and performance, new revision comes with offset mounting, so the cold plate hits perfectly to the IHS and the chiplets, has also 3x Arctic P12 fans which are very silent. I had NH-D15 AM4 Chromax and also the Arctic 360 AIO, Arctic was like 10-15C better in load while being as silent.

I just checked and Amazon only has the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 so I will have to see how that compares to the one you mentioned as now that the CPU is coming I want to find stuff that is in stock.

Yes, this D15 is the "noctua color scheme" edition.
As for the noise... it can make the noctua fans get a bit loud, but the 5900x is to blame with all the crazy (for someone who had a 4690K before) temperature ups and downs.
An aggressive curve for the fans helped, but I still ended up installing the low noise adapters for both of them.

If you're ok with it, going with water cooling would be my advice for this CPU Laughing

Problem is the 7nm process and very "hot spot" temperatures, which cant be cooled with certain coolers efficiently, some waterblocks are performing very badly if they dont have micro fins on right spot in the cold plate.

Your old setup is almost what I am upgrading from, my current setup is a i5-4670k, 16 gigs ram and an Asus Strix 1070 OC. I am still a little leery on water cooling but it seems that is the way to go now with these AIO coolers at least with them making it a lot simpler for those like me that have never used this style cooler before.

My CPU is scheduled to arrive towards the end of next week so that will give me time over the weekend to do all my research as I will probably order most of the other parts from Amazon just for the fast Prime shipping.

Still loving my Scythe Fuma 2. It's almost unaudible (I'm sensitive to noise), even at load. Temperatures are fine too. Of all the coolers I've tried for my 3600 this one was by far the best.
