Judas and the Black Messiah - 8/10

Good dramatization about Fred Hampton and his Black Panthers as well as how FBI under Hoover worked. I don't agree with the Black Panthers political ideology (commie socialism revolution with Mao as a glorified figure) at all but I can see the reasons they took up arms after the murder of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. I can see why Malcolm X and the Black Panthers did latch on to their respective political ideological platforms; they used it to get a louder voice, a strong following and a strong platform to build their message and struggle on. I do think Martin Luther King was the one among the three that did it right without a culture of violence.

I didn't really know much at all about Fred Hampton before this movie and the first time I even heard his name was in the Rage Against The Machine song "Down Rodeo"

Quote:
Yes I'm rollin' down Rodeo wit a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown skin man
Since their grandparents bought one
So now I'm rollin' down Rodeo wit a shotgun
Bare witness to tha sickest shot while suckas get romantic
They ain't gonna send us campin' like they did my man Fred Hampton

As far as crooked and corrupt Hoover is concerned, same bands song "Wake Up" has some stuff to say as well:

Quote:
Hoover, he was a body remover
I'll give ya a dose
But it'll never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

...

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

...

Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
Ya better beware
Of retribution with mind war
Twenty/twenty visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

About the assassination of King:

Dr. King: "Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love... Our aim must never be to defeat or humiliate the white man, but to win his friendship and understanding."

And even though he was against violence, he was assassinated. A scapegoat was used to turn the publics eye away from Hoover and FBI. This is quite telling:

Quote:
J. Edgar Hoover, who had previously made efforts to undermine King's reputation, told President Johnson that his agency would attempt to find the culprit(s). Many documents related to the investigation remain classified and are slated to remain secret until 2027. In 2010, as in earlier years, some argued for passage of a proposed Records Collection Act, similar to a 1992 law concerning the Kennedy assassination, to require the immediate release of the records. The measure did not pass.

So they've got something to hide. Anyhoo, I do believe that these movements in the 60'ies and 70'ies are partly behind the slow but continuing progress for more black and white equality even though there are still some dirty stuff going on which prompted the whole BLM movement.

Anyway, a good movie whether you agree with the way the Black Panthers worked or not as well as an insight into how Hoover ran FBI.

Very good psychological drama, that unfortunately was/is being marketed as horror.

7/10.

Very charming, very effective, reminds me of those shitty b movies aimed at kids from the 80s/90s. Like beethoven and the like.

But as a grownup it brings you back to that nostalgic feeling. Its nice. For that alone its a 9/10. But if you didn't have a childhood filled with cringy, shlockly kid movies it won't do a single thing. By itself its a decent 5/10 movie that has its moments. So balancing it 7/10.

Also don't watch if you don't have kids. Cause at the end of the day... its a kids movie and it's fucking weird watching kids movies alone.

The Endless (2017): 9/10

Really enjoyed this one and slipped past undiscovered in 2017, it's kind of a slow burn lovecraft sci fi movie well worth a download.

Damn you again RLM! Laughing
Another quick cash grab for Bruce Willis AND Thomas Jane. Low budget sci-fi movie(you know the type, motherboards on a wall cause it looks futuristic) with alien zombies.
Bad acting, continuity errors, plot makes no sense and lame effects....what's not to love? Very Happy

The Wolf of Snow Hollow - 6/10
A strange beast this one, advertised as comedy horror but mostly a movie about a guy that probably is a high functioning sociopath or mildly antisocial. Or the director/actor can't act I dunno. Overall I enjoyed it.

Also Thunder Road another movie from the same director/actor is probably a prequel to this. I haven't watch it but have similar hero Wink

The T&J cartoons are dull!?

I thought the movie was surprisingly fine, for what it is. The story is as thin as paper, of course.

I liked how all the animals are animated, not just Tom & Jerry (and a nice little detail in the kitchen, with all the meat being drawn as well). It gave me some Roger Rabbit vibes, although they didn't took it very far.

7/10 for me

Man, what a waste of time. It had a simple premise. Unfortunately they filled it out with more plotholes than gopher heaven. The dialogue is so hammy and bad with some really cringeworthy writing. Pity since the visuals and set designs are of pretty good quality.

I failed to see the comedy in this, but then again I don't remember the first one that well so the nostalgia feeling is lost on me.
It is aesthetically pleasing to watch at times and the eldest daughter is hot, but that's about it.

Feels like Eddie Murphy is not even trying in this one. :/

What a waste of time once again. Laughing

Nomadland - 7/10

A nostalgic movie, melancholic yet charming in its own and personal way. The story is straightforward, but I found the trip surprisingly interesting since it offers a different perspective from the conventional one that society dictates. McDormand delivers a believable performance as per usual, helped by the good directing job and stunning 'Merican landscapes.

Indeed, love it. The recent Mads+Vinterberg combo is very good too, albeit it's a completely different type of film.
