I didn't expect anything out of the ordinary, but perhaps i thought the slight departure in graphics would draw me in more, but no not really, maybe for a short while. I might come back to it, try it with some friends, that could probably be fun.

I'm a big fan of survival games. When i play rimworld its always on naked brutality, when i mod skyrim or other bethesda games, survival mods are my favorites. But this particular formula that these games use, no, i guess i find them pretty dull for SP.

Edit: FarCry Primal in Survival Mode is more fun too. It's the survival game i would recommend out of all the ones i've tried. The setting is awesome too.

I bet this game's success is based also on the fact that it's a very safe (PvE + soloable also) survival game. Most survival games out there are quite punishing or at least lay on a constant looming threat over the player (see The Forest), be it in it's mechanics (dying penalties or hunger, for example) or environments (monsters, for example).

It's also a perfect example of taking all the ingredients from the market and mashing them well in a structured plate. No innovation, nothing groundbreaking, simply well calculated feature mashing.

Seeing videos of and playing this game felt like having played the SAME survival game in the past 10 years with slightly altered mechanics that this time - for some - are much better put together in place.

Played it for a while. It's ok. Not outstanding in anything, but not obviously bad in anything either. It's competent I guess. Which already places it way above most of the EA survival schlock.

You guys are so yesterday. Slow Boomers!

This just in:

Valheim sold over 21 BILLION copies when the alien race of Karbooms from the Andromeda Galaxy discovered the game and it became a hit. Other alien races also approached NASA through the intergalactic comms saying: "Finally there is something you humans are worth for".

The number of normies out there is massive. So expect this to sell much more than that.

I want to play this game but performance was terrible for me. I didn't think it would be this bad since graphics doesn't look that advanced. I guess I will refund it and try it again in the future.

I have 3070 and good old i7 4790k at 5ghz slapped with 16gb ram. I know it is because of my CPU, but even then, I didn't have any problems with the other new releases. Waiting for Rocket Lake to upgrade the CPU.

Go to Valheim and search "low fps" and see all of the other posts having similar issues. I have 144hz monitor and fps drops are really annoying especially when you move around and move your mouse.

So I don't think it is on my side that I am having fps drops only on this game, and all other games I can play without experiencing any issues.

Some examples:
- Finished Horizon Zero Dawn 1440p around 70fps
- Death Stranding: Playing 4k DSR around 90 fps
- Nioh 2 1440p Fixed 120 fps
- Forza Horizon 4 1440p around 100 fps

And you are telling me because I am having issues only with this game, it must be issues with my system.

If you don't want to search here is a link you can just click for performance problems.

I dislike the slow progress and tedious gameplay loop of survival games.

But I love this game. So much of the mind-numbing, repetitive mechanics are gone, and the game is all the more better for it!

I had the same experience. I have a 165hz monitor and the FPS is good, around 80-85 on average when I tweak the settings but what irks me is the drops. It'll go from 80 to 55 and then back to like 70 in 2 secs. Even with Freesync it's annoying and noticeable.

Thoroughly enjoying this game so far, and I've barely scratched the surface of it. Taking my time doing things and just enjoying the atmosphere. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Valheim, and any other projects that the studio will work on. Just imagine having most of the known mythos (Greco-roman, aztec, fetishism, nipponese, I guess the market would love sino-myths too!) covered by the game in the form of an expansion pack or a wholy new game.

Only thing that kind of annoys me at the moment is the lack of automating things, but maybe later down the line they'll let you enthrall greydwarfs, just to give Conan Exiles the killing blow. Laughing

you can't expect much from unoptimized Unity engine :-/ they promise optimization, but seeing how slow they implement something, it can take ages.

This is fairly accurate looking at the people that I "know" that play this game, it's all the people who suck at more difficult or punishing games that like this one.
Watched them play for a bit and I can totally understand why it is for them, very slow paced, combat very simplified and really no risk of losing anything, you can just go and die over and over again.

Definitely not my cup of tea, seems to be more for the type of people that like Minecraft or Sims or other simple and easy games, mainly children lol
