Yeah it's annoying. I dunno if it's my tampering with my 3090 by undervolting or if it's the game itself

To fix the crashing, I had to do a few things:
- Run Ubisoft Connect as Admin
- Disable full screen optimization on the game executable.
- Turn off all overlays. This is important, make sure you dont have steam, discord stuff running.
- MSI Afterburner overlay will crash the game, turn it off using your hotkeys. It conflicts with Ubisoft Connect
BTW, this goes for all Ubisoft games. I honestly think most of their crashing is related to the DRM and launcher. Also, if you're using Ubisoft+, the game uses a modified DRM scheme too which is even more crash prone.
Looking at the logs when it was crashing for me, I noticed the launcher was doing dumb shit like constantly connecting/disconnecting.
My specs:
Ryzen 5950x @ boosting 5ghz, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master, 32gb G.Skill Trident Neo pc3600 ram, nVidia RTX 5080, SoundBlasterX G6, Samsung 980 Pro m.2 1TB and Hynix m.2 1TB storage SSD. Custom watercooling loop.
Derpsole: Nintendo Switch, Derpstation 5 Pro

Not sure how about you guys, but it seems to be more prone to crashing when alot of stuff is going on at the screen.
I started today, did a daily quest for killing someone at bandit camp and when I get there (5 mins of playtime) game hangs and crash. After trying it again it was stable for another hour until I needed to quit due to work. Strange occurrence.

Do you get a nvidia driver error in the event log when it happens?

Yeah, something about driver recovering. Does make sense though since nvidia attempts to fix it driver side. But would be nice to rule out my voltage tampering.

Disable overlays. It's conflicting with ubisoft connect overlay.

sorry my bad.
i actually had trouble installing these hotfix drivers, it still showed an even older version after finishing the installation. had to completely remove all drivers and then install the hotfix version to make it work.
but no crashes since then, only played another 2 or 3 hours though.

Try window mode.
Funny enough seems they removed exclusive fullscreen anyway.
If you set the game to fullscreen and open valhalla.ini
It reports windowMode=3 (which is borderless not fullscreen which should be 2 if i am not mistaken)
If you force it to 2 via .ini the game crashes immediatly on load screen (at least for me)

After giving it some time, the game grows on me. I like it, it's a good time waster. I feel it's different enough to the previous games to be good (I didn't play Odyssey more than 15 hours). I'm playing on hard, fights are fairly challenging. Can I skip all the BS content, or do I need to grind?
Playing this and Immortals clearly shows how much Ubisoft recycles among their franchises.

As long as you reach power levels you should be fine. you see on the map what power level the zones require. Naturally some optional challenges will be hard as fuck if you don't grind out these map points, but they're just optional.

In seven hours I didn't have a crash. I can't game more than 2 hours though. I know I am in the beginning, but the Creed thing seems really out of place here. The story flow is also very weird, there is no flow. It's like I'm jumping from scene to scene.
Fun game, but typical Ubisoft. Playing Immortals and this one on and off shows Ubisoft literally poops out these games. It's basically the same house with a different interior styling.

You forgot farcry. Literally in the same vein, just being fps instead. Also beyond good and evil 2 was going for this style as well. Yes, i'm not believing that game will ever be done.

well i think they got rid of a lot of the cringe that was in odyssey, so despite not being a big fan of norse mythology either i appreciate the direction they're going
and you can see an honest efforts in making the sidequests more "meaningful" / narrative driven. also the little treasures you collect all over the world map usually require you to figure out an alternative route to get past that "blocked/locked door" that's in the way
but make no mistake the whole thing still has this trademark ubisoft-bland/generic feel to it. all the elements for a great game are there but somehow still don't come together as something outstanding

I don't know what to think about this game. Just when I start to really like it, something facepalm worthy happens. It looks great and the team clearly tried to bring in some variation, but some things are bad. Does "The Order" thing makes sense later on? Why the hell does Eivor even give a shit? The way it's implemented is really crap. The first time I killed one of the order people confused me. In the middle of a raid I get a prompt "confirm kill". Weird, but why not. I do it and some cutscene is shown with some shitty dialogue. Who the fuck are you guy? Why do I care about your death? I know this a remnant from the older games, but how it is implemented is terrible. Sometimes Odin appears out of nowhere with some cliche one-liners, yeah why not Odin is always kewl. Stealth also makes no sense at all. I replayed a mission which was clearly supposed to be stealthy. What changed when I went in psycho viking style? Absolutely nothing. WTF would I as a player bother with stealth and WTF would Eivor the viking go in stealthy when he can just go on a rampage? What I expected when the Assassin dude shows up first? I tought Eivor would say "fuck off with your little knife guy, I have a proper weapon to cleave heads, my viking axe".
The way the story is told is also off. I like how they are using the Ragnarsons, fun characters. I also like the battle for England. The way the story unfolds is weird though, like I am missing scenes. I can't seem to explain it. I liked how the older games told stories, introducing famous historical figures and I loved Ezio, but there's no flow at all in this game.
Sounds like I hate the game, but I like it. I like the viking theme and the combat is fun. It's pissing me off though how they manage to ruin a possibly great game by adding useless shit to it. Why not make a proper viking game morons? WHy not take some goddamn risk for a change and make a new viking IP? I'm also beginning to really dislike open-world games, but that's my opinion.

A few things doesnt make sense in this game. Sometimes they want to conquer the land, sometimes they want to make friends and be friendly. Its a wholly inconsistent story. Its good nonetheless though

Thing is as with all recent asscreeds, the sameness of the gameplayloop kind of burns you out after a while. Wouldve loved if asgard had gotten more love but suppose theyll save that for dlc
