Shadow in the clouds - wtf?/10
I watched it because of my toasties recommending it. I like stupid b-movies but what the fuck was this. Seriously, the script, the visuals, the fucking music. I seriously don't know what I watched, what I was suppose to feel. And this had some positive response. Are all critics retarded know?

Outside the wire - 4/10 - after all the Netflix movies, I am now certain they actually do have a team of monkeys as writers. All this money invested, all that horrible writing. Do the execs over at Netflix actually read the scripts they approve? Unbelieveable. Action was nice.

They focus on cast first then story. At least recently.
Way way way way way back when recent up coming celebrities would get randomly attached to shit scripts for hype. They'd get dropped as soon as a studio got interested and it would get rewritten. And money would go into actors who the studio could actually afford.
Here you got captain falconmerica. Coming in hot from mcu and new upcoming disney+ show. I guess thats why you watched it. Saw a recognizable face and said hmmm he does good movies. Let's watch that. So you got lots trash on Netflix with big cast to draw in an audience. Think of uwe boll productions. Get big big names and produce shit and still get monies.
It works. The really good stuff made by Netflix are merely bought at festivals. But they take full credit.

@WaldoJ I watched the movie despite what's his face, I think he's a shit actor. Like almost all Netflix movies it looked cool, but got ruined by a shit script.

Don't Tell a Soul (2020): The two leads (I'd never heard of them) were fantastic in this, really believable performances and a good set up for the first half of the movie. Unfortanately the wheels fall off in the second half with the conclusion a bit meh, nevertheless it was pretty entertaining 7 or 8/10.

Outside the Wire - Netflix/10
Some meaty firefights and cool design of the combat bots but the plot was meh.

Dark Places (2016) - 7.5/10
Surprised me this. Very dark thriller that can lose you at times, and it's very well done, although Charlize's character was drifting a little too much into her role in 'Monster' for my liking, but a good watch.
Shallow Grave (1995) - 8/10
Danny boy does it again. This is in the vain of 'Trainspotting', as is most of his movies. Dark humour galore, and compelling to the end.

You're not alone. I don't like that actor either, I only watched it because it showed a few sci-fi elements in the trailer.
But like you say, it looked cool but got ruined by a shit script. Almost always the case.
Whoever their writers are, they need to be replaced. |
It has been a long time since i stopped watching a movie halfway through. so illogical. such bad writing. such bad acting. such stupidity. such such

For a low budget scifi wasn't that bad.

Psycho Goreman - 6.5/10
The last's act writing somehow didn't meet my expectations. But the movie is what the trailer shows you.

Well the last act is kind of stupid. The rest is Troma light stupid.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004) 8/10 + Shaolin Soccer (2001) 7.5/10
They showed the dubbed version of Kung Fu Hustle on tv, so I felt like watching this one again in its original version. Still hilarious, so we went for the double and watched Shaolin Soccer as well, which is probably even funnier. Its visual effects are clearly cheaper, but the general, almost naive enthousiasm from all actors more than makes up for it.
Apart from CJ7 (which I didn't like), these are the only Stephen Chow movies I've seen, any know of other good ones? Looking at imdb, it seems he hasn't made anything worth watching since Kung Fu Hustle.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

All his stuff is great even as an actor.
He chose his career well.
Cook God is great if youre into live action anime that looks like a polished food commercial. Has very good moments in it.
King of comedy is different but still good.
Mermaid is good if you're into high budget absurd Chinese cinema.
Hes just as good as the guy who created mxc and then made fantastic movies like zatoichi, and brother, glory to the filmmaker to name a few i've seen.
Iirc he's banned from North America (Canada) for some shit. But he has things in the works. Kung fu hustle sequel has been in the works (drafts upon drafts) for well over a decade.

Well plot looks stupid. As long as it don't turn into some weak shit where pg turns good and kids showed him he doesn't have to be an all evil. I'm ok with all stupid if its absurd stupid.

I don't remember names well. I remember their works
And yes hes fantastic. I only discovered him with zatoichi and then went into a whole spiral of most of his works as well his life and its tragedies. Good stuff

git gud: The Movie (Boss Level) - 7/10
As far as pure action flicks go, it does its job fine like some sort of popcorn Groundhog Day pew-pew edition. It has pretty decent acting (Grillo definitely doesn't fail at carrying the movie) and a nice dose of comedy mixed with plenty of over-the-top scenes, it's the type of dumb fun that just works(tm). Shame about the final minutes which felt flaccid, though leaving things up to interpretation isn't the worst sin ever.
