Santa Claus: The Movie (1985)

Trip down memory lane, wow. Must've been some 25 years since I last saw it, gf wanted too see a nice, classic Christmas movie and this is (to me at least) the definite Santa Claus movie. From the age when child actors still know how to act Very Happy

It aged reasonably well, the elves workshop set still looks impressive. Visual effects are rather cheap, but actually pretty cute as well.

Big Lebowski David Huddleston makes a great Santa.
A young John Lithgow as the evil toymaker is still a joy to watch Very Happy

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Training Day - 6/10

Much weaker than I remembered.

Dark Blue - 6/10

Better in some ways, but not by much, and has flaws of its own.

Tenet ?/10

Understood the "story" in broad strokes, but I'll be damned if I can understand the time inversion stuff
Need to go and read a "Tenet explained" article somewhere I guess Laughing
As for the actors, Pattinson was the best, the new guy and gal didn't leave much of an impression. Visually it's pretty cool, but then being a dumb dumb leaves me scratching my head trying to understand some of the stuff that's happening on screen and then the fancy photography is forgotten.

After.Life (2010) - 7/10

Interesting this. Liam Neeson in a different role from the ordinary, and the gorgeous Christina Ricci naked for most of the movie Wink

Ted (2012) - 9.5/10

Third time watching, and tears were still streaming from my eyes. What a blast this film is, so damn funny, sad, and side breaking, and has the added bonus of Mila Kunis, who I adore Smile

Rewatching some "old" movies:

Underworld - 7.5/10

Still a fairly good Vampires vs Werewolf action romp.

Underworld 2 - 5/10

I used to rate this a bit higher but since it's got the dumbest fail in the entire series it drags it down from a 6.5-7. The two pieces of the keys to Williams prison that they spend half the movie trying to keep from Marcus... why the fuck didn't they just destroy the keys by melting them or grinding them into metal dust? After all, we're talking about metallurgy from the 6th century. So f'n stupid.

Pretty enjoyable horror comedy.

Ammonite - 7.5/10

You've seen this forbidden love pre-victorian story a thousand times, but the detailed, dry atmosphere and the acting from Winslet and Ronan up this quite a notch.

Gravity 4/10

Why is this so highly rated on imdb? I found it very unrealistic, nothing that happened convinced me. They trivialised some truly impossible actions, one after the other, literally impossible things happening. The acting didn't convince me at all either, it would be better with some unknown actors than the usual Hollywood faces at the very least ...

Very cliche, too.

Because it has Clooney, Sandra Bollocks, ham and "skyence", and Ameridurrs know nothing about space.

This movie is pretty good, I think it's the best Cartoon Saloon's movie so far, at certain points things becoming predictable, but mostly in a good way.

Tenet - 6.9(not inverted)/10

That masochistic feeling when you're aware that having excessively high expectations is only going to ruin your experience, and yet, you refuse to yield and let the disappointment awkwardly go hand in hand with your enjoyment. It's not the first time that Nolan's projects/ideas don't quite turn out to be as majestic I hoped (yes TDKR and Dunkirk, I'm looking at you) but with those in the end I still very much appreciated the results and the fun factor was still there in its almost intact state.

I wish it were the case here as well, despite my multiple attempts to care for its Protagonist(s) throughout all the various paradoxes. The writing is the main culprit, but the actors didn't quite help either to be honest. Too aseptic, soulless, anti-climactic even, which is a capital sin for the genre. It was like watching a shiny clever showcase generated by an AI algorithm where things technically fit together (kind of) but there's not much in it that can convey enthusiasm. It..just happened. But it happened in a competent way, and C.Nolan.exe at least deserves credit for that.

Parallels - 6/10

Quote:
A group of friends stumble upon a mirror that serves as a portal to a "multiverse", but soon discover that importing knowledge from the other side in order to better their lives brings increasingly dangerous consequences.

Somewhat interesting premise but overall a pretty meh movie with very 2D characters and lost opportunity. Watchable if you've got nothing else to watch or just want something to watch while having a beer and eating some snacks.

Quite enjoyed this true story starring Daniel Radcliffe. Slow paced, but brilliantly shot, and serves to remind, that we do not deserve to live on this planet.

Stunning movie this, with Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau acting out of their skins, with a couple of twists thrown in. Brilliant.

Hidden (2016) - 4/10

Starts good, but descends into utter shit, which is a shame, as I was rather enjoying it till then.

The Empty Man - 4.5/10
Too long, interesting premise, badly executed with shitty ending.

Breach - 3/10
The budget went to Bruce Willis who suprisingly even tried a little bit and Thomas Jane who just didn't give a fuck. Overall an exercises how not to shoot and edit a movie.
