I played the demo and it's very promising. The devs are actually active on Steam forums and are answering to player's feedback.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes does its best at mixing together Lovecraftian horror with the Souls-like formula. But the game’s simplistic approach to the gameplay mechanics is no match for its artistic direction. This gap between gameplay and artwork amounts to a modest experience that most likely won’t be able to scratch that Souls-like itch.
(This article is based on a press copy of the game provided by the developer.)
Pros:
+ Interesting universe
+ Fantastic aesthetics
+ A good variety of enemies
+ Music
Cons:
– The combat system lacks depth
– Simple story
– Exhaustive level design
– The mouse doesn’t work in menus
– No option to rebind keys

It's not just you, the visuals can be quite misleading.
I found this to be a weak iteration of the Souls-like formula. The gameplay is too simple. There' not enough depth to the combat and some mechanics are just binary. The bosses don't do much and it's not really challenging to get through the game. I really hoped this would turn out better and I'm disappointed with the end result.

Finished it yesterday after ~16 hours.
Learning to parry will be a must for bosses and the huge sword with 4x the strongest attack speed runes was the way to go (even with 4x the medium runes, honestly).
Pretty fun game, what similar 2D games you mens recommend? Blasphemous?

Dude....Blasphemous is one of the most artistically genius games I've ever played. One of my top games. Even the music just makes you feel existential dread the entire time you're playing it. It's so delicious.
Combat is....I dunno how my gamepad survived it. It's hard, but satisfying as fuck. There's a lot of enemies to learn their moves but if you get hit it's always because you got greedy with your attacks.
The boss designs are just....man I hope that dude is ok in the head lol.
100% would recommend Blasphemous. It's more of a Metroidvania with punishing combat.
Play it. Play it now. That game honestly ruined Metroidvania games for me, nothing compares.
My only complaint is there's "objectives" that are more like puzzles that can give you boosts and what not but they're very outlandish. I had to google what the fuck half of them were because they felt too cryptic. Not required to finish them but you do get some neat stuff if you do.

I haven't tried this one yet but Blasphemous is indeed a good addition to the genre, especially when it comes to the gritty atmosphere and level/monster design. I'd also add GRIME, Vigil The Longest Night and Death's Gambit, flawed but enjoyable as far as metroidvanias go.
My personal favourites are Hollow Knight and Salt and Sanctuary, with the Ori games gloriously sneaking in even though they're more platforming-based.
