The type of show that made Star Trek popular is gone, can only hope new sci fi series attempts to follow in it's footsteps. This show is more like Star Wars or Guardians of the Galaxy but a lot worse with really cringe dialog and characters. They also waste about 1/3 to 1/2 episode on CGI laser shit, it's been done to death and very boring to watch.
Honestly what was there to spoil. you got 5 mins of plot and 55 mins of star wars lasers.

Well, I enjoyed the Star Wars action-sunday-simple-but-fun-romp going on, esp compared to the silly fake "edginess" of the previous season. It's got nothing to do with Star Trek in any way except some props like the badge, the underlying basics of what makes Star Trek Star Trek is nowhere to be seen and thus I interpret it as a separate show (esp. this first episode) that doesn't take place in the Star Trek universe.

It took me one shot (The bug eating butterfly) to go: "Oh dear, its copying Star Wars now?!"
Still the same old cringy and simple dialogue. Burnham is still a shit character. The acting is on the level of an 8 year old when it comes to being under the influence or just showing any emotion that's not 'imma bout to cry raight naaw'.
I really wonder how many times they are going to soft reboot this show.

Second episode reminded me why I didn't like ST:D. It all came back to me and I was going "bleh, this is the same old crap".

Tig Notaro is annoying and I would like to see her character get vaporized.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Star Trek used to be about the crew of a ship or station, not about 1 person. This is always about Michael and anyone else is just there to support that 1 character.
Call it "The adventures of Michael Burns whatever her name is",lol.

Didn't all ST shows have a storyline heavy protagonist? I can name one for each ST show. The problem for me with this one is the complete lack of actual lore, world building and exploration. I could understand the first season, flashy action to draw in the big crowds, but I have no idea what the purpose of season 2 was. This one seems to take the same path. Action action action and some funny and/or edgy moments inbetween. There's just not that much content to make you actually use your brain. That might be the purpose of the show though.

In episode 2 there are no more white male humans left on the bridge, lol. And the whole bridge crew is a prime example of a diversity cast lol.

Can't say I actually noticed it. Was too busy being annoyed at some of the actors and their acting.
Now that I think of it, only white male that pops in my head is Paul (that's his name right? ) and Pike whose not there any more.

Is it just me or did the timejump somehow increase Tillys mass?
Anyway, the premise is okish fir a starwarsy space adventure. This is what should have happened in season 1 so they wouldn’t have to mess with the lore.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Can't have actors diet for their role, that be body shaming!
Wasn't plump bodytypes usually for the higher ranks of Starfleet aka the desk jobs? Always thought the active officers/crew were mostly: the fittest and brightest Starfleet had to offer.
At least they don't have a food shortage in the show. *looks judgementally towards the walking dead*

Matters for consistency of the show.
If they do a flash back episode lol.
Actors are contractually obligated not to drastically change their appearance unless it is in the script. I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

Yet you can't even mention it before someone acts like a retard. You that is.
But hey keep on stifling discussions. So progressive.
Mister_s wrote: | Why does her weight matter? |
It doesn't really, but at the same time I don't think it works that well for Star Trek. Especially when she had to get fitter in a previous season (was it for an officer or for a command position?) and started doing run sessions with Michael.
I honestly think an arc where you see progression in her physique could have been interesting. Most shows don't play with that. They'll just let their actors fatten up or slim down even if it doesn't fit the character's situation. I feel in movies they tend to be more professional about that.
And before the diabetic gets offended, I'm fat myself. I have no problem with people being fat (other than if they act like it is healthy).

Except from accidental limitations of the body (like handicaps or different alien limitations), people who would join starfleet would probably train quite alot to be able to perform at their best both physically and mentally. I suppose people take physical exams in starfleet too. (Like they do in firefighting, police, army, navy etc.) I remember even an episode in season 1 where she trains to become fitter. But being physically fit has become somewhat of a hollywood stereotype and they're all about negating stereotypes in this show, even for the sake of realism. But being physically fit does not mean looking like a fitness model either.
Also, it was a silly joke.

@Morphineus I don't mind the actress' weight since I don't care, but I do agree it should've been an arc. Yet seeing how they try to reimagine this show every damn season, I'm not surprised no one cares about what happened earlier.

Spoiler: | Yup, Impulse drive tech would be quite sufficient for controlling a system. |

Spoiler: | They could have done interesting things with Earth's isolationism but then they just had to make it rather simplistic with it being a Titan outpost.
And you would indeed think: they could control their solar system just fine.
There is workable material... its just not deep enough or too flashy most of the time. I assume this was the team really trying to make it trekkie (diplomacy angle) and I think they just can't pull it off. |

Star.Trek.Discovery.S03E06.1080p.WEB.H264-CAKES
Every new episode is worse than the last. The first episode was very different and I kinda liked it (since I really didn't like Season 1 or 2 at all) but as soon as the Discovery and it's crew came to the show it just annoyed me and I get more and more annoyed by the crew characters. Bleh.

The character was a suppressed drama queen in S1, she's a proud drama queen now. Every time she tries to act I want to punch her in the face.
