When winning takes everything, what are you left with? The Queen’s Gambit follows a young chess prodigy’s rise from an orphanage to the world stage. But genius comes with a cost. A riveting adaptation of Walter Tevis’ groundbreaking novel comes to Netflix on October 23rd, starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
It seems the trailer has got some SJW crap going on.. .. but I just love Anya Taylor-Joy So I'll give it a try.
I liked it very much as well. Her character was surprisingly refreshing by being neither "tough girl strongarms her way" nor "weak girl in a man's world", so none of those typical stereotypes shows like to fall into.
How "realistic" that would be in a 60s setting is up for debate, but did not hamper my enjoyment at all.
“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
- Albert Camus
Message is, even if youre troubled and fucked up, your skills and talents are and will always be part of who you are. And you shouldn't run from them and just embrace them. You will fail. Don't give up. Don't use crutches and blame them. Take the loss. Learn from it. And don't give up.
As you can see later in the show. Things change for the main character.
We need more shows like this.
Shows real character development.
Real troubles.
Real issues.
Much like first 2 seasons of halt and catch fire until they forgot what they were doing.
i dont understand the storyline or message for the audience though ...
its cool to get wasted and go for the easy money and do drugs and screw ur education? ...
and lets all sing kumbaja together stoned n wasted at the end and smelling like cancersticks
I'm sorry that you wanted a story that approves of your morals and paints everything in black and white She is not a mary sue and it's for the benefit of the story.

It's pretty much like a super hero movie but with chess it seems. At least she doesn't need to hide the super chess powers from her new parents, at least not yet (second episode).
