Take Shelter (2011) - 6.5/10

Interesting take on Mental Illness vs reality, but falls just short of being clever.

Matriarch (2019) - 7/10

Pretty good this, set in Scotland, and quite chilling.

Yes, it is indeed quite chilling in Scotland.

The Witches(2020) 5.5/10.

"Faithful" adaptation of what used to be darkest than most horror movies now days turned into kid movie with most of the darkest stuffs from the book and even the 1990 film removed or altered....
Its not "horror" by any mean even questionable dark fantasy.

Few changes were okyish tough like the introduction of "new" character to the main cast and the more bitter ending which made more sense...

But just because the ending is(supposedly) closer to the original book doesn't make it better film than the 1990 version.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe - 6.5/10

Engaging fist half, classic horror tropes second half. +100000 for the astonishingly beautiful main corpse.

Verónica - 6/10

Top notch production, settings and spanish 90s recreation. I could even smell the furniture! Sadly it has quite the common bad spirit script.

The 1990 one was horror? I saw it when I was 11. It was always intended as a movie for kids, being based on a Roald Dahl book and all.

Unhinged - 7.5/10

Russel Crowe's character was like an amalgamation of Rutger Hauer's in "The Hitcher" and Michael Douglas' in "Falling Down". Well worth the watch.

The Rover (2014) - 7/10

A weird beast of a movie that alternates quality gritty moments with occasional wonky and pseudo-amateurish bits, supported by the competent acting (Guy Pearce is very good in it) and by the solid concept. It doesn't really hit any particularly high notes, but it sticks aseptically to its modern-day post-apocalyptic revenge theme where laws are no longer valid and everything is permitted.

POSSESSOR - 7.5/10

Not as ambiguous and smart as Brandon Cronenberg thinks it is, but it's a great flick per se. Stellar acting, quite the gorish punch scenes and some welcomed psychotronic logic. Recommended!

I started watching Possessor earlier today but took a break after ~25 minutes for a nap. Not feeling it; the sound quality is awful for me, at least in this rip (doubt it's better from other sources) and it feels cheap and conceptual.

Relic (2020) - 4/10

Hocus pocus nonsense that starts good, but soon deteriorates faster than you can say, is Trump really still here?

Don't Breathe (2016) - 5/10

If you do not breathe, then you will miss very little by not watching this horror trip, but I'd say, skip, and breathe deeply, as tomorrows another day.

The Matrix Trilogy - 8/10, 5/10, 4/10.

Been a few years since I watched them and it's the same... The first movie is still a great piece of cinema even after all these years. The Wachowski's blew their load creatively on the first movie (when they still had loads to blow Twisted Evil ) and the sequels were afterthoughts with a lack of creativity, bad choices and generally poor execution. Still, some action scenes are nice and a lot of the CGI for that time is still great. They still knew how to create impressive action shots even though they still didn't match those from the first movie.

I could write about all the plot holes, certain moments that made me cringe etc. but that's been done to death. Since a new sequel is in the works (for some reason.. I felt the whole story was told in the trilogy, ie. no matter what you do you're still just a cog in the machine. The trilogy show how futile it is to fight the system since even the fight and "victory" are all part of the systems strategy, thus Neo never really won, he just unwittingly followed the plan all along and completed it accordingly with only a variation of the expected outcome and thus nothing truly changed.

I guess that's what Matrix 4 will be all about; actually breaking free from the hamster wheel and break the cycle OR the sisters are planning on making it into another trilogy taking the philosophies and tropes they used in the original trilogy to the next level. We'll see.

I have zero expectations about new Matrix. They were a one hit wonder and this is more of a cash grab try if anything else.

Jurassic Park (1993)
8.5/10
My oldest son is now able to read subtitles fast enough most of the time so it's time to watch some good movies with him. He has always been very interested in dinosaurs, so Jurassic Park was an excellent choice. The look on his face during the T-Rex chase was awesome. It reminded me when I was his age and saw it for the first time. It was a wonderful experience to watch the movie again and the soundtrack alone gives me the shivers, in a good way. The movie still holds up pretty good because of the animatronics. CGI is dated yes, but still very convincing.

Both outstanding with Prince of Darkness (John Carpenter) giving us that slight 80'ies cheese feel in just the right amount that makes 80'ies horror movies good 80'ies horror movies. Smile

Event Horizon is a great 90'ies horror that could be described as "Hellraiser in space".
