Question is: Avengers initiative seems to be some afterstory or sequel to the single player campaign. Does it have a proper story or is it just a random mishmash of missions with some flavour text to them?

I'll naturally buy it if the online part actually brings a decent story to it also.

Avengers Initiative has a story chain mission that continues the main AIM storyline with some cutscenes and stuff but if you are thinking of buying it I would wait to see how much the Kate Bishop DLC adds as that is supposed to be bringing new story missions and if it just ends up a small 15 minute mission and that is all it might not be worth buying for you.

Aside of this being a shit game, isn't this an online game? What would the experience be like with the CPY release?

There is a story campaign that is single player but has some missions that can be run co-op if you want to play with real players otherwise the AI does fine for those missions. You also can play most of the so called multiplayer content solo as well again with the AI filling the other 3 party slots.

The game has an offline mode which I assume is what the cracked version would end up playing like which just turns off the Square Enix account tied stuff like Challenge Card unlocks, the marketplace and those sort of cosmetics.

Probably cut-scenes taking up all that space since they're notoriously difficult to compress lossless.

This was by far the fastest game I ever uninstalled next to Serious Same 4.

Buggy mess still. Voicelines kept coming in late and talking over each other. Performance was dogshit. Game absolutely plays itself. Your involvement in control is just push the forward button and tap the attack button.

Square Enix - reported Yen6.5bn loss for HD Games driven by Marvel Avengers, would not say how many sold but that volumes were 60% of plan. Implies game cost over $100m to make but only sold 3m or so. Ouch

Before you all start getting too carried away, it might pay to remember that the only thing the industry ever tends to "learn" about these sorts of things is that you need to shut down the developer to offset losses. It's not like they are going to announce a new Deus Ex as penance.

In this case, it's probably more likely they'd sell it off, but that's probably not much of an improvement if it ends up in the hands of someone like EA.

Curious, there have been reports earlier that placed it at over 2.2m digital copies sold in september alone.

Well, it's square enix. They are kinda known for their unrealistic sales expectations.
I'm not sure what's wrong with them in that regard.

reminds me of this from 2013
Quote:
As part of its latest financial earnings report today, Square Enix announced that three of its big-budget titles failed to reach their sales targets.

Tomb Raider has sold 3.4 million units worldwide since launch this month, Hitman: Absolution has moved 3.6 million copies to date, and Sleeping Dogs has sold 1.75 million units since its summer launch.

These figures do not account for digital sales.

Anyone else would consider those good sales numbers but somehow SE expected like twice that

Apparently they still haven't learned.

-edit-
another one from a 2019 investor briefing
Quote:
Meanwhile, while we released “JUST CAUSE 4,” we
sold fewer units on launch than we had anticipated and were
therefore unable to offset charges such as the amortization of
development costs.

lol

it feels like square enix have no idea what they're doing.

Theres nothing wrong with them. You dont look at sales in a vacuum, just saying out loud that it sold million of copies, therefore it must be good. You need sales relative to your investment. This game cost muuuch, much more than 100 million dollars, like they said. I would say closer to 200 million. You want sales that net you a a nice profit. The articles say the were projecting almost double to what they actually sold. Take into account that Shadow of the Tomb Raider cost as much as 135 million dollars. Based on how this game is built, im sure it cost more than that.

DCB is correct, this is no reason to be happy because the outcome may be the clossing of these venerable western studios. I dont want my gaming offer to consist of yellow shit.

+1, what a waste of a good developper to have Crystal Dynamics do a Marvel game, with shitty game as a service element.

Usually these shitty Marvel & DC games are handled by shitty dev!

Now they can focus on a proper single player game again (new Tomb Raider ?)
