Meh, I'm in no hurry to update from mine. Patience will be rewarded with Zen 4 and DDR5, unless they can make the XT refreshes more worthwhile than they were with the 3000 series.

Not on 1080p tho. On 1080p its 120+ fps

Source: me.

One can dream that updating the engine to DX12 will convert that 75 fps in flight sim to something north of 100.

Actually having 75fps on MSFS would be like having 240fps in any shooter in term of satisfaction Smile

Right now I am in the mid'40fps with many setting on High rather than Ultra with my "shitty" 1080ti (no I am kidding I am still loving it ... for now).
And it is just "enjoyable" already

Oh and if I lower some more settings I stay around the same performances but yet because of main thread limitation aka CPU bottleneck, hence my 5800X arriving today.

So, it is the last CPU release for AM4 socket? Seen somewhere that AMD promised in 2016 to stick to AM4 for 5 years.

I wonder if 5600x is a prudent purchase right now, seeing as it has less cores than the new gen consoles.

Yes it will be last, i would not buy anything less than 8 cores / 16 threads now.

Just wait for a sale to get the 5800x for like $399

Or grab a 3900x for even less

5600X is one of the best choices for now. I wouldnt spend 2-3x more just to have more cores doing pretty much nothing at 1440p and 4K resolutions. Unless you do some production in addition to gaming. If you do then 5900X or 5950X all the way. Smile

5600X being quite cheap it's not the end of the world if you upgrade it after 2-3 years, especially with AM5, DDR5 etc in mind.

That's exactly the issue - with new socket and new memory on the horizon (next year maybe?) and low amount of cores, it's maybe a decent upgrade to current am4 mobo holders. For me a switch from 6700k doesn't look that worthwhile. I believe new games will be optimized for 8 cores from now on.

5600X is good way to go if you dont want to regret in the future by paying eg. 580€ (5900X) now and hoping to get even half of that when AM5 and DDR5 are out. So play smart based on your _actual_ needs at this very moment. Smile

So I swapped my 3700X with the new 5800X today as planned Smile

What I can tell so far :

From 3700X to 5800X
- around 20% pure CPU performance increase
- runs much cooler at idle (50C° instead of 70C°) and a few under stress test (90C° instead of 96C°) do I need to replace my H100i ?
- I still can't run my DDR @3600, the best I can do is @3200 with shitty 16-19-19-39 clocks Mad

Regarding the MSI MEG Ace MB :
- the mouse doesn't lag anymore in bios, finally !
- Bios is UEFI by default now, instead of CMS (boot time reduced drastically)

Happy with the upgrade (I can return my 3700X to the reseller with a 80% payback deal so 320€)

I've also gave up on their videos. It's like listening to someone reading a phone book. Too much info, too much reading and less relaxed talk.

Hardware Unboxed is currently probably the best channel. Short videos, tons of information and pretty much zero annoyances.

Yeah, I was hoping it's time to upgrade, but the more I think about it, the less attractive it gets.

Well, I am considering getting 5600x and mobo+memory combo on the cheaper side, to hold me over until the "next big thing", but it really goes against my grain. I like buying good hardware knowing it will serve me well for quite some time, not bridging gaps with bare minimum. Very Happy

Same here, I'd do just fine with a new gen gpu only, to replace my 1070. The CPU has been serving me just fine until now.

I'm a little undecided on what to do at the moment. I am building a PC for my son for xmas.
I'm going to start him off on 1080p and instead of buying him new hardware, I am planning on using my 6700k and mobo, which will be more than enough I think for 1080.

This will allow me to upgrade to the 5600X an either 550 or 570 mobo to go along with my eventually arriving 3080.

I think it silly to by new components when i can have a little upgrade Very Happy

Then you're in better shape than me, I stupidly switched 970 to 2060s earlier this year. You on the other hand can get a 3070/3080 and be fine for a while.

Six month ago I've payed 600$ for 2060s (that's what it cost over here) and it bugs the hell out of me to pay now twice as much for 3080. Maybe if it was sold here for MSRP...

Btw, you can overclock it somewhat. I'm running 4.4 now without touching the voltage.

I know, i can turbo it safely to 4.2 from bios alone, but I never touched OC, because I don't need it and Im not curious about it because it worked flawlessly. The GPUs were the issue, all the time.

Bear in mind that since I got the 1070 (1.5 years ago), I game at 1440p on high, with locked 60fps. If the game is too demanding and not well optimized, I switch to 1080 and increase details. Nothing to complain about.

Welcome to every YouTuber. I really do not see the point in such videos, I highly prefer written ones, you can easily browse to the sections you find interesting, without people shouting. Just some graphs you can read at your own pace.

I don't think that applies here (about the every youtubers) since what pickup wants is rather one of those shouty showboats.

Hopefully AMD can push out far more CPUs than Nvidia can with their GPUs. I ordered a 5950X a couple of hours after they released, and I'm placed at 185 in the queue where I ordered it from :/

Not that I'm in a hurry, but I don't want to wait months either.

Yeah, I'm 56 in 'Q', but not bothered when I get, as I'm grabbing the 'Dark Hero' board for it when it comes around, skipping Gigabyte this time on the board front, majorly pissed off with their BIOS crap, and should fit in sweetly for when I can get a 3080/90ti Smile
