Quote:
Swedish studio Sharkmob, which was founded in 2017 by former Massive Entertainment and IO Interactive developers, has announced its first project: a multiplayer battle royale game set in the universe of Vampire: The Masquerade. An official title and supported platforms were not announced, but it is due out in the latter half of 2021.

Quote:
Experience the next thrilling evolution of battle royale multiplayer action games set in the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade universe where vampire sects are at war across the streets and rooftops of Prague.

Choose your playstyle, go solo or together, battling rivals and the hostile Entity who’s hellbent on exterminating all vampires. Use your supernatural powers, weapons, and blood to become stronger in order to hunt, fight, and survive the night.

Jesus H Christ.

Still, it will probably turn out better than VTMB 2 at this point.

Hardsuit Labs should have pitched this version of the game since that looks like something they could have done and Paradox should have got a developer that at least made a RPG before.

Apparently someone in alpha/beta has leaked the full build, although it is through Steam so would need to be cracked. More info in the RPGCodex thread is anyone is interested.

I really thought the thread title was a joke. But then I realized, real life is a joke. And this is real.
I'm sorry everyone.

this stuff doesn't make sense to me.

why is Vampire: The Masquerade treated like it's some huge mainstream IP?

Someone's gonna be very disappointed when all these Vampire games don't do very well.

All people wanted was something like Bloodlines but not broken and now we have all this shit nobody ever asked for

Vampires themselves, in the generic sense, are a big thing (or at least were in the mid- to late-90s). Latching on to an existing IP not only gains you some level of existing fanbase and basic cultural awareness, it also grants you a bunch of lore and trademarks so you don't have to worry about making up your own stuff or licensing someone else's work. VTMB2 is all well and good, but making some sort of mainstream cash-in like this is how you pay the bills (at least if it is successful).

Why does everyone want to kill a series the second it becomes "mainstream" though? At least try something new, but gotta jump late on the bandwagon and assume the series is dead when people are fatigued by the same old, same old.

Because mainstream, by its very nature, inevitably means diluting the game to appeal to the broadest market possible. You only need to look at the history of RPGs and how they have devolved into barely more than action games in the name of mainstream appeal.

But how is being late in developing a type of game that that the market is saturated by help? It doesn't.

Being less of a dumbdumb would help a few series survive, but thinking you've got a cashcow and making some "mainstream" game of a series that is actually pretty niche and few people know of, it is suicide.

It's the way all business works. Everyone is always convinced that this time, it will work, that they will succeed where so many others have failed.

I don't see how anyone could think using this Name and copy pasting BR could possibly make money, why would anyone bother with so many established BR franchises already out there.

I couldn't see this one making its budget back solely with a Vampire theme, with this failing perhaps they finally put the franchise on ice where it probably belongs.

If you're referring to the World of Darkness MMO which was in development by CCP, that game didn't even see the light of day. No pun intended. It was cancelled long time ago.

There was also that Legacy of Kain MOBA game - Nosgoth. It was decent but with awful balancing and 0 content. Was just in Alpha and got cancelled as nobody played it. The trailer here reminded me of Nosgoth. Not sure how to feel about this but it's probably gonna fail as well.

Yeah, this does remind Nosgoth a little bit. It will be fun for a month or two if it will have team deathmatch or whatever modes and then it dies.

It's the most disappointing part, really. The existence of a BRhurr based on the universe wouldn't even bother me if we had a promising proper, main project capable of giving us a bit of hope. The whole thing honestly feels like some sort of Malkavian self-Dementation.

It does remind me of the Shadowrun game from the Xbox 360 where they take a game property people had some interest and make it into a random game genre nobody asked for that game property.

There was a guy on that Codex thread I mentioned that says the leaked build is apparently a full game and completely playable, aside from a few bugs and crashes. Yesterday he was trying to find someone/somewhere to upload videos, but checking the thread again he (or a moderator) appears to have deleted all his posts. But based on his impressions it sounds like it is indeed in a much better state than VTMB2 is.

Yes, most likely it's gonna end same as Nosgoth. The fanbase just wants a good story RPG with vampires. None of them cares about BR or full PvP game. And the BR/PvP crowd doesn't care about the World of Darkness universe. Sad
