I heard that there are only 4 weapons and 4 "classes" you can play as, and that exploration only nets you some resources to upgrade these classes/weapons in some way. Is that correct? If yes, doesn't the moveset/playstyle get boring after some time?

In other games in the genre such as Code Vein, Dark Souls or The Surge, there was a large variety of weapons with different movesets and strengths as well as various pieces of armor, and one major force driving exploration was the possibility of finding new pieces of gear... so I'm curious how that works here.

I guess it's limited by being an indie game, it's also shorter than the others you mentioned.
It will surely be a good experience, but we will have to wait for the sequel (if it sells well) to have the full experience.

Sounds limiting, but i'll place a large bet that most people stuck with a specific playstyle anyway in DS.

Oh pft, 4 weapons, I usually go with 1-2 in these games anyway, focus on improving those.

But you go with 1-2 weapons that you like from many options. Imagine having less options to choose from.

Then you'll pick the one you like the most and you'll enjoy it. Many games limit your weapon choices.

Apparently it's not too long, something like 10-12 hours (so more like 8 in reality). It doesn't overstay its welcome so the limited moveset shouldn't be too much of an issue. Might hurt replayablity though, if you are interested in that.

I've finished it today and I think this game is the perfect example of something that is recommended to play the isodemo or buy it on sale. The setting is great, as is the combat system, but it ends up being very short and limited. I think it leaves the foundation for a sequel with a bigger budget, they made it clear that they can do something worthy.

I'm also gonna play this. I like souls-likes, but currently lack the time and investment required for a "full" game, with family and a small daughter around. This sounds like a perfect compromise to me.

Great, just like Hellpoint here's another sexist souls like in which you apparently can only play as a male. What's the matter devs? Think that a woman can't get hard too? Rolling Eyes

That said, better finish Hellpoint first because I keep pressing L2 to sprint and instead of that keep getting hard all over the place Laughing

I grabbed the Sweeneydemo out of curiosity and reached the end too (it took me about 9 hours). It's a respectable low-budget effort with a very solid rotten atmosphere and interesting ideas like the parry-riposte and the foolproof hardening mechanic, but I found it lacking in some of the crucial departments.

The combat for instance isn't quite as precise or responsive as it should be, and the four fixed shellmen coupled with the limited selection of weapons could have been implemented in a handier way. The three areas (connected by the main hub) don't shine in terms of level/enemy design either, there is little sense of wonder and the backtracking sessions where the only source of difficulty is constituted by having checkpoints distant from each other don't help the cause.

It's not bad, but I wouldn't put it among the best Soulslikes out there, certainly not on the same level as The Surge 2 and Salt and Sanctuary. All warts aside, even the recent Hellpoint felt better structured and more satisfying overall. A meatier and more expanded sequel could definitely be intriguing though.

Started this and I kinda like it. Coming from Hellpoint, there's clearly a difference, character has more weight. 1st setting reminds me of the short Forbidden Woods in Bloodborne.

I find the approach for different shells interesting, altough a bit of variety woulnd't hurt. My playstyle is faster style so I went head-on for Hammer and Chisel weapon and the rogue ( Tiel? ) shell - I would like a bit more HP tho, just for my safety.

I think the hitbox might be a bit weird, weilding the two-handed swords, you were hitting the enemies right when it started the swing animation, guess that detail needed some more work.

Also, you can't sprint and press left right, as the character will stop sprinting, that's also weird.

All in all it scratches the souls/borne itch good enough.

I do like that we are getting more and more souls-like games though as I really love the formula. It's one of the few ways to actually get rewarding game play in modern gaming. Very few (single player) games reward you this much for being knowledgeable or skillful.
But these games do, getting to powerful items and building powerful characters quickly because you know how to get to places and you understand enemy patterns, it's rewarding as hell.

Other AAA-games don't really do that very much. Sad

Indeed! My sentiments exactly. It may suffer from some limitations at times, but at least it's a formula that doesn't aim at the lowest common denominator and treats the player with respect. Free from the cinederpmatic-ness, auto-handholding syndrome and all the arcade buttonawesome(tm) flashy mechanics that tripe-y A games usually offer (and that I traditionally can't stomach Razz).

Yeah! Women can have erections too - I've seen it on the internet. By accident, you see.

And finally finished here too after getting hard so many times.
Not bad overall, sadly there is almost no challenge in this. Bosses are really easy even if you don't use hardening and parry, dodge roll with the full stamina guy and you pretty much don't need any items Laughing

Yeah, it's nice, but it feels like a demo for something bigger to come... Like a demo with 3 levels out of 7 and more mechanics. The aesthetic was so well done, that it left me wanting for more...

Turns out to be pretty good.

Already done fire and ice places, running with the first shell (the middle of the road one) and using a maxed out martyr blade (the bigass zweihander), having a blast. The harden mechanic is extremely weird at first, but as you go along you learn to use it defensively and, best of all, offensively... that free hit included when hardening at the right time is immensely satisfying when you pull it off Very Happy

It's not particularly hard but then again again, just because it looks and even plays like dark souls doesn't mean that it has to be as challenging and difficult as that. Lore is pretty sparse and unremarkable IMO, but since the gameplay is solid that's not much of an issue.

Will probably finish it tomorrow or this weekend, and then save a second playthrough with a different shell and weapon for when the game is released, in Q3 2021. Now, time to go back to the future!

EDIT: Beat it. Yeah, liked this better than Hellpoint all things considered, even if it's shorter and with the repetitiveness.

I bought this game when I saw that they have rotting christ as an alternative soundtrack. How cool is that ? And I just reached Imrod in the first (fire?) dungeon. Cool game man.

It is cool, I really liked playing with the rogue shell the most, as it was the most fast-paced out of them all.
