So it seems my meniscus on the inside of in my right knee has gotten arthritis. If I sit still for a long time the right knee will lock up in pain. I can usually walk it off but it seems it's getting worse since I wake up with pain in the morning so I guess it's time to book time for physiotherapy. Fuck.

How about cycling? It seems to help with knee issues.

Wow this sounds like the same thing i've been experiencing, so i know the suckage of pain in knees. For me it's very on and off. I'll sit with my knee bent and my left knee suddenly starts hurting, sometimes not so bad, sometimes very bad indeed. Rising up makes it hurt like a bitch, but i basically walk it off and the pain dissipates.

Yup, that's the same thing I've got and without physiotherapy it will apparently get worse.
@couleur: Yes, it does. After I've suffered through the pain of straightening out the leg and walked around my apartment a little it's fine enough to take the bike to the grocery store for instance which totally fix my knee for a while. Sitting still with my knee bent in front of my PC is what fucks it up after a while. It's just such a shitty weather here in October though, cold+rain+wind, so it's not particularly fun to go outside at all, esp. not cycling.

Manning up and going out is the right way. We have umbrellas and jacket with hoods for a reason and you don't have to walk for long.
Walking up and down stairs is probably good to.
I haven't even talked to my doc about this so i'm good as long as my knee behaves. Worst case i was limping a little for half the day, so i don't think this is something to take lightly (even though i kind of do :/)

Sounds like you need an indoor bike: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002CVU2HG
If you know you'll use it regularly and have the space, it's a good investment.

+1 on the indoor bike. In combination with some good music it allows for both cardio and interval training.

It did for me, I have biked a lot my entire life (talking about at least 70Km a week). Once I got the training bike and rode it a couple of times... it just didn't feel the same. I can do longer and faster sessions on my real bike (even with the Swedish up and down roads) than I can on the exercise one.
That being said, it will still do the job. Gyms usually have better equipment than the affordable options for home use. So maybe have a look at that. Otherwise swimming is great.
I'm surprised my knee is still without pain. Had to remove the meniscus in my right knee when I was 17 or 18. I did a lot of work in physiotherapy after the surgery but still surprised it held up for the past 20 years.

Get a gym subscription and go every other day. You start off the session with an exercise bike, 20 minutes.

That's warm-up. I did that when I had physiotherapy after a back injury.

Or a good tv series in front of your nose. 45 minutes of stationary bike with ups and downs (Blood Drive ftw) makes wonders.
Good health to you Sir!

Here's an idea:
What happens if you sit and rest your legs on a smaller chair, table or a stool from the PC-chair, instead of on the floor?

Wouldn't work since the desk would be in the way for my legs and if I rolled the chair back I'd be sitting too far from the desk to use the mouse/keyboard.
But I've figured out how to rest my right leg by either crossing the right leg and resting it on the left or angle it leftward. That doesn't seem to cause pain or stiffness. I'll figure something out.

My own arrangement is a smaller table(for resting my legs from time to time) on the left side of my PC-desk. But if you already don't have room on the side, I understand.
Wishing you good health.

I have something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AccMart-Adjustable-Office-Hammock-Orange/dp/B0169NEPX4 - a foot hammock. And I've added a keyboard&mouse tray / shelf to my desk, so that both of them are lower (more ergonomic) and farther that way

Of course, I bought it on Ali, not on Amazon, for a fraction of that price (3$? something like that) years ago
