|
 |
Last week my F harddrive was running insanely slow up to the point of it being alive but not worth running.
I rebooted and since then I cant power up with it plugged in. My connectors are all fine as are my other drives but as soon as I plug it in it's a no go . It loads the windows logo and the bar, and once that has gone it just stays black. My power light remians on all the time too. i've waited about 5 minutes and tried it several times and it's not getting anywhere.
Is there a way to try and fix this problem? test the hardrive on its own? salvage some of the data?

please send copy... how much to ship em to the states?
as for your problem: I had a similar problem with one of my maxtor drives. Eventually after trying a ton of times it just worked and I copied all the data to one of my other drives. I know this doesnt help much but maybe it will give you some hope.

Put a table fan on the HD, let it cool down, then quickly copy the files to c:/

it's chilled though :'( Its been out of my PC for 2 days and it's got the 'cold' feeling to it. It made a dirty scratching noise when I connected it to the other PC. What's worse is I'm starting to remember all the shit that's on the drive like my Complete south park set, extras, the office, the office Us, Joey and band of brothers 5 DVD set (ok some of that isn't impossible to get back) but the SP was envious!

I feel for ya sublime. I still haven't recovered all my music lost in a similar event. You just have to let it go m8. More important things in life (that may not be true but it helps if u tell ureself that).

NEW REVELEATIONS PEOPLE!!
So ive managed to boot with it plugged in. Ran a chkdsk and a /r on it. It crashed at stage 4 but thats not a problem. If I can use a harddrive recovery proggie i might be able save it. From the chkdsk it looks like ive only lost 3 films too! Rather happy at this present moment in time
Any reommended data recovery proggies?
edit: FUCK YEA!!!!!!! files = fine even the ones i thought id lost!!!
o and p.s. Freezer = for batteries not harddrives

havent had an ibm die yet, had a maxtor die quickly and get a growing amount of bad sectors making data recovery impossible. my new maxtor is making strange noises so ive advanced rma'ed it. not happy my 2 other maxtor ide's have only 1 year warranty while the sata one has 3..

From my working experience it's hard to tell wich brand is the worst, ibm/hitachi has been the worst by far when they introduced their DTLA series, but hitachi did recover from that in terms of quality. However the general quaility and longevity of todays hard drives has decreased considerably. Though SCSI and SAS drives are still good but very expensive.

I love the newer Hitachi drives. Quite and well built, last long and fast! Love them!
Always been Seagate before for me and only 1 of those ever crashed for me. Nowadays I get both hitachi and Seagate and I don't complain about either of them.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

I´ve had my 80 gb Seagate for over three years now, wich i bought after a Deskstar crash. Not one problem ever with the Seagate disk. I´ve had/seen many Deskstars crash, i´ve also had 1 Westenr Digital crash (2 crashed for my friend, same 120 gb model).
