Quote: | Hotfix #3 - Theft, Death & Hubris
We’re back with the third hotfix today, addressing a few crash scenarios that definitely aren’t supposed to happen. We also have for you a Frankenstein amalgamation of crowd-sourced character creation, and boy does it look boring!
Firstly, yesterday as a joke we asked you to send us a 3080, because they were too popular for us to buy one (which prevented us from testing those cards internally before launch - all fixed now!). Quite a few of you reached out with sincere requests for how to do that. That was very sweet, thank you for those messages. Keep them! They’re yours. Besides, without your graphics card, how are you going to play BG3?
Before the fixes, let’s share something you’ve created yourselves (this is your own fault) through your choices in character creation. We took the most popular choices in character creation, and recreated this. We thought our analytics system wasn’t working! We checked. It is.
Congratulations, you’ve basically made the default Vault Dweller. What the hell guys. We gave you demon eyes, horns, and even tails. We are sorely disappointed. Go crazy. We worked hard on this!
We’ve got a lot more analytics that run in the background. We’ll share more insights and data in the next Community Update, but for now, you should know that it’s not just bug reports that help us solve issues and improve the game, we have a system of anonymous analytics running in the background that show us a lot about how the game is played, and thus how we can improve it. Simply playing BG3 makes it better for you now, and everyone else in the future.
One important thing this hotfix has solved is the resolution upon the death of Gale. Those who’ve let Gale die may have found that an important item is missing, which is required. That’s back! So, which was it? "K'ha'trach'ash'ssji", "K'ha'ash'ssji'trach", or the easier to pronounce “K'ha'ssji'trach'ash”? Only Gale lovers will know.
Also, we fixed an error where people were stealing from merchants by directly equipping the stolen items out of their inventory. Hubris! It’s in the title!
We still currently recommend you play the game on DX11 mode if you experience frequent crashing, or graphical errors. But they should be reduced now. The next big patch will include a host of fixes for cinematics and animation as well as UI glitches, and a community update diving into the game’s launch.
Don’t forget to read the EULA
Better the Devil you do know, eh.
FAQ attached here, updated with new workarounds and known issues: https://larian.com/support/baldur-s-gate-3
Fixes attached y’all:
Fix for crash related to showing a move preview with an AoO when in combat.
Fix for crash related to surfaces requiring concentration.
Fix for crash related to drag and drop of items in the trade inventory.
Gale's Scroll of Resurrection is now correctly added to the player's inventory. |

Nothing odd that people aren't doing those types of characters, maybe they've forgotten they're creating a RPG where people want to connect to their character. Generic = easy to connect.

No, actually generic is more often than not just plain boring.

That's what generic means, it's boring, casual, something which is often very relatable. I much rather play something boring that i can connect to than something totally "out there" that i don't really recognize, can't really connect to. At least in a RPG.

I just never understood the need to connect to characters in games. Have interesting characters and a solid story and the game is a blast. Have a boring potato sack for a character and a good story and you'll probably be annoyed at some point over the worthlessness of the main character.

Why would it be worthless just because you can make connections to perhaps classic fantasy books instead of something totally made up for this one particular game... I have tried playing weird ass characters with flaming eyes, horns, tail etc, no, i get tired of them. I need that "history" a generic fantasy character has, i can easily make those connections to scenes in movies or parts in books..
RPG's are much about connecting to the character i think. It's why i never play female. It's in the name you know, role playing.
I don't need my characters to be super generic though. It depends. I guess its much about what kind of history you share with a particular type of character. If someone has a favorite character who's a demon with tail and flaming eyes then you can probably connect to such a character rather easily.

The fantasy is being generic and relatable at the start and then becoming stronger and making a name for yourself through your exploits later on and becoming less generic while doing so. The chosen class and skills do the rest. I mean the Bhaalspawn is anything but generic but it takes half the saga before it really shines through.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Well, you see. I think the fundamental difference between us is that i simply don't need to "connect" with my character and i find enjoyment in what's presented before me as long as its written good. Basically like movies and regular games.

I don't waste much time in character creation, I just pick whatever class and race I want and move on. I don't give 2 shits about "facial features" and shit like that, lol.
I find it far more important, that the characters I meet in the game are memorable.

Exactly. And also the protagonist has everything in place usually to be the best character also. So why not.

In cRPG's most people play themselves.
Therefore, despite the 'effort' Larian has put into creating horns & stuff, most players will always choose something that they can relate to. Meaning horns and red skin are not very... representative.
So, in that 'pseudo-complain' post, Larian is either trolling / making a fun conversation, either they are disconnected from reality and expect - with a raised ego - that people should levitate around whatever they suggest just 'because they worked hard'.
Sometimes, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Well of course they do. Games don't give you any options.

I don't think they were particularly serious, but yes, they do seem to fail to understand that most people actually prefer the genericness in these games. Baldur's Gate was not successful because it was a very original game, quite the opposite.

Hype, scandal, traffic numbers, clicks, popular debated agendas, angry mob, sheep behavior, low IQ / frustrated reactive leftist twatters = today's social media.
It's a sick environment that is highly contagious and very dangerous.

Kotaku is the CNN of games media: fake news.
Also, Larian should fuck off calling people's choices boring. Most normal people don't die their armpit hair pink. And shaming normal people for being normal - what is that about?
Western studios are so politicized nowadays. Why can't we just skip this bullshit in games...

Tbh Larian has been super cringy about the whole thing since they announced BG3.
They kinda were with DOS 1 and 2 but now they over did it.
I had a very slighy hope before EA but all is lost now, i deleted the bootleg EA forever, there is so much suck in this game its incredible, from poor NPCs, writing, dialogues, level design, combat, the choice of the most boring DnD ruleset and woke world you can imagine. A damn shame for the BG IP but hey ho, guess its what they decided to do

Euhm... okay... that is more a you thing.
They are just saying people are plain and its a shame since they put so much work into it.
Frankly I'm not surprised, I usually go with male human that resembles me unless a game has a good dead/undead option.
Don't start finding political shit where there is none, you only end up looking the same as the one you shout about. Sure different side... still same attitude.
