It even running acceptably on a 1060 means their options scale well which is a good thing. Everyone will be happy and can play the game.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The officially announced 3070 8GB and 3080 10GB are just the entry-level 'high-end'.
More types of 30xx are coming.

I'm 99% sure they only put 11GB there because that's how much the 2080 Ti has. I highly doubt that the game is actually going to use that much. Doesn't necessarily make the 3080 10GB a better purchase, just something to keep in mind.

they'll be scraping below the 3090 pricepoint anyway im guessing so i'll just get myself a 3090 and stand by the decision.

It's just a ploy to sell more 3080 cards.
Anyways, ubisoft's engines are notorious when it comes to performance.
1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB
2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)

Still rocking that i2500k from 2012. But at least I have a Vega 56, I guess I'll see if the GPU makes up for my lacking CPU...

This is what Ubisoft did for Watch_Dogs which is how I think they should all be doing it these days (at the very least, and with the average FPS included). It was bad enough when they had to cater for a million different configurations while providing simple requirements, but now it's worse with all the different tech limited to nVidia, and god knows what AMD is about to bring (if anything):

I'm not sure what Ubisoft did here really is worth that much. Putting the VII and the 2080Ti on the same level purely because of the VRAM is miselading at best. I'm pretty sure a 2080S would do better than the VII in 4K despite havin less VRAM.
Anyway, I get what you mean. There should be a more detailed chart with expected settings and framerates for different tiers of hardware instead of just saying "recommended" etc.

It's not because of the resolution, the increased framebuffer is peanuts (10bit per channel@4k = 8MB per frame and even if you tripplebuffer it's 24MB, so don't worry), the 11gb are on ultra settings with additional hd texture pack. This is where the increased vram requirements come from .
As people increase texturequality settings at higher resolutions, higher resolutions "require" more vram. But if you select the same ultra textures on 1080p, it'll still require 11GB vram.

Or because it was the most powerful consumer card and they optimized for 11GB vram usage

Good news. Devs need to get their stories more focused in these open world games. 50 hours for the main story is also long enough IMO. I'm biased though, I no longer want to spend 200 hours on a single game.

Well... Sorry to disappoint you, but you'll have to wait. | Add to that the delay to 2021 that will be announced a month from now...
