Oscars adopted a new representation and inclusion standards inspired by British Film Institute (BFI)

Academy governors DeVon Franklin and Jim Gianopulos headed a task force to develop the standards that were created from a template inspired by the British Film Institute (BFI) Diversity Standards used for certain funding eligibility in the UK and eligibility in some categories of the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) Awards, but were adapted to serve the specific needs of the Academy. The Academy also consulted with the Producers Guild of America (PGA), as it presently does for Oscars eligibility.
“The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them. The Academy is committed to playing a vital role in helping make this a reality,” said Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “We believe these inclusion standards will be a catalyst for long-lasting, essential change in our industry.” |

For the 96th Oscars (2024), a film must meet TWO out of FOUR of the following standards to be deemed eligible:
STANDARD A: ON-SCREEN REPRESENTATION, THEMES AND NARRATIVES
STANDARD B: CREATIVE LEADERSHIP AND PROJECT TEAM
STANDARD C: INDUSTRY ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITIES
STANDARD D: AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

Methinks, if primary focus for the managment of AAA games / movies studios will be on getting such awards. All AAA games / movies will become even more generic

I don't know whether these rules are right or wrong, maybe a bit of an over-reaction. I could write how a severe lack of diversity is a huge problem, even in a supposedly tolerant country like the Netherlands. I have experienced this lack of diversity and I am still experiencing it during my jobs, even though I don't even look like a Turk (people think I'm Dutch until I speak Turkish). I can't even imagine what a black person goes though in the USA really. Buuuut no one on this forum gives a shit about that, minorities should stop being sissies and whatnot, there's no such thing as systemic discrimination (sub-conciously or not) blablabla. So I'll just say I agree with this to a degree, even though I think it's too much.

Pathetic, and the BAFTA ones are incredibly retarded.
Guess only games by indie dangerhairs will be eligible in a near future, because IMO the big and medium boys won't give a single fuck.

Well, it seems a majority of people are pro-diversity in media and entertainment (ie. the western world is moving on, with some difficulties here and there). The younger generations (those at age ~29 and below) of today have grown up with the cultural changes and they are obviously having an impact on the entertainment and media industry as a whole since they're the biggest current/future consumer group.
Personally I don't give a crap as long as movies with superheroes, horror movies, sci fi movies etc., ie. stuff I like, don't become diversity/snowflake political platforms that ruin the entire experience with their agendas.

Ah, filling up quota's seems like the early 2000's again for us civilized Europeans.
Was a horrible system then, still is.
But hey as long as you put positive before discrimination everything is A-OK.

As I see it... Any quotas(racial, minority) are bad. They lead to free passes. Which inevitable leads to decline in quality. Companies are forced to hire worse candidates cause the pool is artificially restricted. And such candidates are not motivated to improve themselves as quota hire is always waiting for them.
BFI extends such quota system to the media content. Not a censorship, but definitely an infringement on creative freedoms. This will make content more generic. But what even worse, it will make it more real life. This is especially bad for Games as they are a form of escapism to relieve stress.
