I’m sitting on my balcony last night, 4th floor minding my own business and I see movement out of the corner of my eye. 3 of them. What is this? Why too big for a cat, not a dog, too small for a mink.

Holy shit, it’s otters. I have 3 big fat full grown otters running around my neighborhood. Had to run and grab the camera because otherwise no one would believe me. My other half snapped the picture.

This is where I live, I face a park. There is a stream at the end of the park. Word on the street is these otters are on the move because they ate all the goldfish outta a fairly large sized pond about 2 km away from me.

Cool! Otters don't live near me but we do see the occasional hedgehog in the morning. We even saw a mom with a baby once.

They are otterly cute.

Dam the neighborhood!

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Awww, I haven't seen an otter since I was a kid. That's the problem with living in a small city even though there a big river going through the city center.. Too much noise and the river is lined from the harbor area to the start of the rural areas.

They definitely seem to have a sense of chilling out when they're not busy.

I live in a small city just a little ways from a fairly big city. Vancouver has this otter, he became famous all over the world because he had gotten into the SunYee Gardens in the middle of downtown and was eating all the prize Koi fish. These fish were well over $2,000 each. Specially bred koi fish. He was very crafty and they couldn’t catch him.

Always fun to spot wild animals like that.
We frequently see deer, foxes, squirrels, hedgehogs around the house. Backside and east side of the house is forest so its not uncommon to have something stare at you. Laughing

Haven't seen any otters in the wild yet though! Razz

Heh I live in what some people still consider "the center" of Cracow (I don't, but it's like 15-20 minutes walk from Wawel) and last year we had a whole family of boars munching on acorns under the tree directly in front of my balcony. They were casually walking the streets, not giving a fuck about cars or anything...

photography is a bit of a hobby. Bears are my favourite subject. We actively go out seeking shots of them. We have a coup,e of DSL cameras and some decent telescopic lens so we are pretty far away from them. These are some of our better shots but I’m posting the ones from my iPad which are not the best quality.

I also have these ones. Like I said before, the quality isn’t great. There are just screen shots I made for reference.

Deer and squirrels make excellent subjects.

Did you see that guy who made a squirrel obstacle course in his backyard ...and YouTubed it. It was elaborate.

This one?

Laughing

European squirrels are not the same though, look different and more shy. Except when they eat all the food I prepared for the birds.

Yeah, at the end of my trip I was too a snowflake! Laughing But I love snow so much, I said fuck it, and did a full walk inside and around the park for several hours. By the end, my coat was was so frozen, I couldn't move my arms that much (snow falls -> melts -> freezes) Laughing

Central Park NYC is teeming with life, which is really nice for a city park. Really loved it.

it was a play spaz attack. They grew some grass on the field and he was attacking the built in watering system. He thought those sprinkler heads looked shifty I guess.

He also attacked the orange pylon....dragged it across the field and the ripped up this grass underlay stuff. It was pretty funny. I made a video with it to Queen. I should look for it.

Haha, exactly this Very Happy

There have been quite a few interesting additions in the past months though, a couple of hooded crows started nesting right behind the house (and devoured all my cherries *shakes fist*), I've been regularly seeing hawks scavenging the area as well since small reptiles and mice are quite abundant in the fields nearby. No adorable otters here sadly, only ugly-ass screeching coypus Sad Laughing

They're pretty big rodents which happen to be very resilient, they like to dig holes just for the sake of it and are capable of surviving by eating...anything. They've been invading most creeks and lakes for the past few years, to the point that they've become a problem. They're practically the mammal equivalent of catfishes Razz

They aren't lookers either

But seriously: Wildlife in Germany is quite boring. When we see a wolf or bear it makes national news so... we have no really big animals, we have no really poisonous animals, we don't have exotically coloured animals...

Only thing we get in our backyard is trash bandit raccoons.
