Apparently it only affects buying wallet codes in steam or sent from other steam accounts, to prevent buying with stolen CC. For now atleast.

I bought a global wallet code on some polish site and it worked without a problem. Although the currency change info didn't appear.

Well, according to the message this is now covered by the three days grace period. So you won't get a wallet funds bought with stolen credit card. Gift cards are not covered by it.

No, you can gift across regions. Some of them anyway. They might restrict certain low value currency regions, but it should be fine between first world regions.

But if you buy it on your alt account on a diferent currency than your main account, it wont work, have you tested this? I think it covers any type of currency that is not the same as the currency you are trying to redeem on that account..

Wasn't it always like this? I once bought steam wallet gift for Poland only and couldn't redeem it in Argentina. Global Wallet gift cards works fine now. |
Did the card or the store had the info that it was a "Poland only" card? The ones I can buy at retailers here don't have any information on any region restriction.

So, created a local alt account, added myself as a friend (using a friend link, because all else is blocked due to no money in the account  I guess they have a bug and this is still allowed ). Now I can't send a gift card because "is not yet eligible to receive this gift."

You need a VPN to accept gifts, if you are not physically where your account is supposed to be.

That sucks... tried it with a 5€ gift card, didn't work for argentina, worked fine for a german account. Guess it's time to look for ARS gift cards or switch region...

I have 3 accounts, all set to Arg. I use one account to buy games for the others (wife and stepson) and I can't accept gifts unless I turn on VPN on the receiving account.

Ah OK, we need to be "friends" for at least three days to be able to send. Let's see in three days. If this works, it would be convenient than going to a website and buying card codes. |
