Apparently it was released to show PC gamers "what they're missing out on"
Explains why it's such a shoddy port.
Maybe the sequel will arrive on PC when the PS6 comes around.
to show us "what we're missing out on."

Really enjoying this game...didn't expect it since it seemed just another open world with many repetitive side quests to do. But the main story is nice, side quests (errands etc) aren't that boring, nice array of weapons but not overdoing it, nice graphics and almost no crashes. So all in all this is a nicely done game imo.
Biggest complain: the m&k controls. For some reason, it seems unresponsive from time to time or there is a lag. This happens only in this game. For example when using the bow sometimes it's as if it doesn't register the clicks and I end up melee attacking instead of using the bow. Or when you run and sudden stop while trying to change direction, don't work. Anyone else has these type of issues?
Maybe I'm missing something from settings.

yeah, at first playing i thought it was kinda meh but once it opens up its been great, would give it like a 8 or 9/10 now after finishing it
very rare in an intense fight charging bow after bow sometimes it wouldnt shoot, thought i pressed something that canceled it. with fps uncaped feels like it has mouse acceleration, after limiting fps it got fixed.

I'm enjoying it too, although the world feels kinda static.
The glimpses you sometimes get from the old world are cool, but way too few and far between. Most of the lore and background seems given just through readable notes.
During the intro in the cave, there are lots of audio files to find. But I guess that was just for demo purposes?
Vistas look nice, but with no real loot, exploring is kind of pointless.
The cauldron was a massive disappointment too (was hoping for a Fallout-esque vault with specific story/lore, like the cave in the intro, but just got more metal lizards to kill).
So I feel the game is very much one-sided on action, while I prefer having also some RPG moments and exposition. Witcher 3 had many and often very long moments without combat, and those were actually among the best and most memorable parts of the game (for me). The hilarious wedding during the Heart of Stone DLC is best example of this.
And, have to play on easy as well, because performance is hindering gameplay for me.

you will get very heavy exposition later, there are big chunks where there is no combat. and after it ended it felt like the game dosent even need a sequel. a big part of what made the game great was the mistery.
exploring is pointless because there are no question marks on map like in witcher 3, all you need is to activate a side quest from a town and only then you would explore most of the map, mostly for xp and some mods, all the good loot you get from vendors.

You find audio logs more often in places where the "old ones" had their cities/buildings/bunkers. Especially inside their bunkers you find tons of audio logs.

this might be related to the fact they set heavy attack on Shift+LMB
.... reminds me of similar issues in Dark Souls 2 where heavy was set on dopubleclicks so the game always had a delay becausove it as it was waiting to kno if its single or double click (unless you changed it from doubleclik to something else and it suddenly worked fine)

Sure that solves one part of the problem (if you can get the keys to change since it doesn't seem to work) but the lag is still very strong in this one. Btw can you change the key mapping? Because I tried, but it doesn't register the change. Is there a options file I need to change? Thanks.
/edit: NVM my bad. Seems you cannot biind it into 1 key or button. Has to be pressed always with attack button. Ow well...

What's your framerate?
The game goes negative when going above 30 FPS so mouse acceleration gets weird and then more weird as framerate goes further past 30 FPS. (It also breaks various other effects including hair physics.)
Borderless would be recommended as would using the newest SpecialK mod if possible although some overrides cause the game to crash so fully benefiting from a flip model presentation is impossible.
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/dxgi-flip-model/
https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/sample-application-for-direct3d-12-flip-model-swap-chains.html
You can reduce some of the latency but as the game is currently hard set on using a fixed back buffer count of 2 instead of 3+ it's not entirely optimal especially for adaptive sync and high framerate and refresh rates.
Bit technical for how the port is fucked in various ways but at least the recent patches are resolving stability and some of the gameplay issues, I don't know about these other tech problems and some of the key issues like timing and other stuff I don't have high hopes of seeing resolved fully but who knows, could happen.
EDIT:

Negative mouse acceleration is present above 30 FPS.
|
EDIT: Of course 30 FPS on it's own also means 33.3ms response time instead of 16.6 or lower as framerate goes to 120, 144, 240 and so on.
Don't know if they can fix the broken animations and what not but some of it can be fixed or improved so you can get some more benefits with fewer trade-offs though the game overall should feel better at 60 already, or higher although it maybe breaks things a bit more.

@JBeckman
Nice. Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense I guess. And yes, I'm not using a fixed frame rate (unl) and running on borderless display mode. Guess we just have to live with this. Still enjoying the game tbh.

Borderless improves performance? Also on low-end machines? Or is this a buffering thing for too powerful pc's?
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Try locking your fps to 30. Move the mouse. Then unlock the fps, preferably so you get 60fps+. Then move the mouse the same amount. You will turn more in 30fps than 60fps.

Your perceptions are failing you.
Or you are a console player.
Kinda same thing, really.
EDIT
The per pixel precision of the mouse and it's free moving speed can't ever be matched by a gamepad.

Honestly, the more I play, the more I love this game. I am now over 50 hours in, still not finished the main story and I finishing up side quests and the DLC area first.
This is so much better than AC. Even Origins.
Every AC game, I barely care for the story, especially not the "present-day" part, which should be the main part... and in every AC halfway through I start rushing through the main story, because I can't bear the repetition anymore and I just want it to be over.
I haven't even touched the DLC's in Origins, because it just felt like "more of the same".
In HZD, the story keeps evolving and moving on and even keeps surprising me. And the background music really adds to the atmosphere.
GOTY for me.

It's meant to be level 30+, but even at 50 it still kicks my ass sometimes. The new machines are vicious.

I went when I was like level 45 or something like that, but as Sin stated, some of the new machines are definitely a lot tougher. The story and some of the side quests are interesting though.
