So from what I understand you cannot really run emulators like on the PSP? In simple terms if I get a 3ds XL and hack it or whatever, which games can I play?

As far as I can tell, most of them are shitty. However, if you are wanting to run SNES and things, there is the eShop that has many titles, and I believe you can inject whatever you want into there.

There was someone working on potential hacky port of RetroArch in there, but it never went far if I recall.

Im a bit confused here, thinking about hack it mainly to test some games Twisted Evil from Eshop. I want also to keep playing some original games that I ve already bought. Which is my best option nowadays in your opinion? thanks Smile

Is anyone here clued up with the Sky3ds+ card? The orange button version.

My 3ds is on V.11.1.0-34e and so I bought the card know that it'll work on this firmware. The card is on it's newest firmware ~ v.112.

It came with a sdcard with games loaded on, so it should be a case of just plugging and playing etc.. But all I get is a green light on the card when it's first plugged in and then nothing, and nothing shows on the 3ds games menu.

I've tried a different sdcard, formatted it with fat32 and cluster size 64kb... but still the same problem Sad

Any ideas guy's?

Sounds like you're putting bad roms onto it.

They have to be legit retail rom rips. Nothing from the eshop made into a release will work on it. Also if it goes over a certain file size, you have to trim the file down.

Check the roms after you've done all that. If they're bad, the cartridge will rename them with "bad" at the end. That's the only time I got what you did.

Also, make sure they're "clean" roms - not modded or an eShop titled turned into 3DS file.

Other than that, I got 3 SD cards with practically every game worth playing on the system and it all works great. If you don't set cluster size correctly, though, it may screw up switching games.

http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2016/12/06/nintendo-is-offering-15000-to-anyone-who-can-hack-the-3ds

Quote:
Nintendo is offering $20,000 (aprox. £15,000) to anyone who can find a critical security failure in the 3DS. This is all to entice potential hackers to profit from telling Nintendo about it, rather than spill the beans to pirates, cheats, or people looking to send kids dirty pictures.

Not bad. I wish Nintendo would release more Metroid merchandise - it's a very popular game and a more mature Nintendo series too but when I went to look for Metroid themed stuff for my game room, I found very very little besides boot leg stuff and Japanese-only stuff. I want me a nice tall Samus statuette ffs <.<

i might buy my first N3DSXL with the upcoming SNES edition.
Only reason i want CFW for is downloading / play games through eshop for free.
If its on the newest 11.5 firmware what are my chances of installing CFW?
Ive googled a bit and found some info about ntrboot using a DS flashcard but the different hax/exploits are a bit overwhelming to keep track of as a newbie.

Been reading up on this but cannot find a definitive answer (conflicting reports)

Can someone tell me if a 3DS/2DS on 11.5 can only be hacked with the following

a) Another hacked console or
b) Soldering

Or if it can be done without either ?

I don't know much about 3ds hacking tbh, i just went for the sky3ds+ card, as I wanted the console more or less legit so I can access the store still whilst still ebing able to play all the games. So far the sky3ds+ still works with nintendos latest firmware. I'm more then happy with it, am I missing anything by not going the cfw route?.

You can still go to the store using cfw.

I prefer cfw because it allows you to boot any unsigned code (custom virtual console, home brews...) and allows you to install games to your sd card as eshop games without the need to select titles with a cart button.

You can also download games for free directly from the hacked eshop “free shop “ straight from the 3ds with WiFi.

Basically no offense but your sky3ds is kinda useless right now.

And they can ban your console just as much as with a cfw specially if you don’t use custom headers.

Most important question of all though, is it possible to get the blue gateway card to work with latest cfw? Saw people talking about bluecardfix, timeetc but didn't get it working.

Only reason i want to do it is because twl loader is absolutely fucking terrible for DS games. Think of one game you like and you can be damn sure it doesn't work.

I'm not sure about the blue card, mine died. I had to install bluecardfix when it was still working but that was years ago so I'm not sure. You might need this because IIRC newer FW basically blacklist the blue card and bluecardfix restores the "old" blacklist.

Google is your friend for this though Razz

Have no idea about the blue card sorry, my knowledge of the carts is at the bare minimum with the orange cart as it is.. I still have my sisters old DS with a DStwo card for ds games, and also a r4i gold for the 3ds, but I don't find myself playing ds games much nowadays unfortunately. Hmm I suppose not having to select games with an orange button would be handy but for some reason Im just not using my 3ds to the same extent as I did with a cfw vita or a m33 psp.
I suppose im pretty content just being able to play the games I want to play, even if that may sound useless for yourself, i got everything I need at the moment with the new 3ds and this skycart, so I still don't see enough incentive to go the cfw route. I thought about it for my old regular 3ds, but homebrew and unsigned code for the 3ds still hasnt the appeal as it does with the vita or psp. I think it comes down tot he screen at the end of the day. If I want to run emulators etc I rather do it through the vita and it's pretty OLED screen Laughing.

Except my switch though, I have one of those with cfw and the other purely legit. I'm more enthusiastic about cfw on that machine tbh.

Welp, I guess the console is long time dead by now, it's still living on in the emulation scene though.

I doubt there will be any pure handheld console by the main players, cuz the market was taken over by tablets and smartphones.
