Grim Dawn, just finished it. Hmm, mixed feelings. Not the Titan Quest sequel I was looking for. The loot was pretty mediocre (still running around with rings and stuff from level 10 at level 60) and 95% of weapons were maces, swords and shields, which as a mage wasn't very useful. Only after level 40 or so some wands started dropping. Mid/end game was a bit of a grindfest and all the fun dungeons to explore that existed in the beginning of game were almost non-existent there. Side quests were not much more than kill/find X here and return. The forgotten DLC was pretty decent though. The in-game currency also had pretty much no point, along with crafting (only used it for a skeleton key), vendors and smugglers. I'd give it 7/10.

I think the best loot only starts dropping after you hit 50 Aerius.

I am going to have to look into the Freespace 2 mod scene it seems. I started playing Starpoint Gemini 3 but it is still only in Alpha and pretty rough but might have some potential unless the devs just give up on it.

All things mod related to FS2 pretty much start and end here Owen.

Yeah, it surely seemed that way, but then I had at least 90% of the game finished, I got to level 60 or so. But at level 60 my ye olde gear still worked fine, which is a real shame overall.

i think this is an inherent flaw of percentage based loot and kinda weird they didnt figure this out in the past.

a % stays good forever , a fixed value doesnt

Cleared Gujian 3, bit higher production values could have helped but overall I enjoyed the game although it has some flaws.

Translation even after the English script revision starts out very direct and wooden / stiff and then progressively worsens with typos or outright mistranslations or multiple words for the same object which can be a real hassle during some quests or the crafting requirements although there's some good FAQ's available to help with that.

There's a heavy reliance on backtracking even as the game introduces new areas of which there was a surprising amount of destinations available at the end but they do still use a lot of back and forth and having to trek across the current map although fast travel at least helps a bit on subsequent visits to the same areas.

Timed quests are also a thing as are hidden and very narrow opportunities for some of the side quests but besides some extra background info or lore this almost never matters as the rewards are 90% of the time some small monetary thing although sometimes you do get crafting recipes or other unlockables though they are generally not too important either.

Liked the story despite the translation inconsistencies and trying to follow the developers extremely wordy script as every single character you meet will narrate out lengthy stories, backstories and their own thoughts and views on just about anything as you puzzle together the story and progress through the various chapters.

Balance of how this is told could be better too, early on it's fairly light on plot progression but late game you'll stumble from one short scene to another with one or two cutscenes at a pretty constant pace before you reach the point of actually getting to the next dungeon area or some other development instead of watching scenes play out between various characters.

Ending itself could have been a bit more fleshed out but eh I liked it, sounds like Gujian 4 is also happening but they're transitioning into Unreal Engine 4 and as expected that's not a smooth shift in game engine and how to work with it so it's going to take some time.

(Also need to search up on more info on Wuxia and Xiaxao or yeah the two major differing types here in the actual story elements and what's told and the focus on men or demons/fey and of course also legendary swords.)

Also finally cleared the main bit of Borderlands 3's campaign and got rid of the Twitch Streamer Terror Twins and the game just got a whole lot better without them in the way.

Gameplay is a improvement but the UE4 engine shift changed it to fewer but much larger maps and quest objectives at the most remote points possible, if I ever replay the game to some meaningful extent it's Cheat Engine and super speed for getting through that again. Very Happy

Buggy though, patches improve and yet break things consistently so it's a bit unstable and there's numerous UI bugs and performance problems. Oh well it's not as bad as some others (Division 2, Breakpoint, Ubisoft #3 here. Razz ) and there's just this first season of DLC to clear.

So lets see some casino, tentacles and spaghetti western.

....Tentacle pasta hmm.

Yeah that's a good sign, clear them one by one don't mix em. Very Happy

EDIT: So what's next?

Sword Art
Persona
Some weird and strange thing.

Yeah maybe some weird and strange.

EDIT: Yakuza like a overpriced dragon is also coming out soon and damn Sega you sure bumped up the price this time, sure it's the new game but that was a surprise.

EDIT: Hmm that reminds me that Mafia 1's remake is also coming out, wonder how that's going to be, hopefully it won't be a janky ass game like Mafia 3 was even after patches and then in some mysterious ass way regressed to in the re-released edition.

EDIT: Eh too many pictures.

Played Observer, aka Epilepsy The Game. Laughing
Ending sucked, but overall it was a nice acid-like experience Very Happy

Hardspace: Shipbreaker, I play occasionally. The latest patch was very nice with more added randomness to the ships, but after the initial few hours, it's really a game I can only play for 30-45 minutes before getting bored.

Apart from this... there's nothing out that I'm interested in, I'm really bored when it comes to games, right now. Also waiting on Destroy All Humans Smile

Kinda got bored with Last Epoch so moved on to Mafia 3 to finish it. Yeah, I know...not as good as the first 2 but the story is pretty good. I have a capo, the big guy and the three DLC left.

Still playing Divinity Original Sin 2 with mods on the side and getting ready to start Factorio for the first time.

lost ark - they nailed a lot of things right - graphics in particular and the combat is very involved with 9 direct attack button combo and additional 4 support skills. Huge amount of cool looking dungeons with a lot of elites, mini bosses and bosses. Professions and sea content for a change of pace. Trial towers, cubes, labyrinths and etc. Lots of cool stuff to enjoy and more to come.

Rimworld. Because playing the other rather expensive games i've bought the last year would be stupid, of course!! Rolling Eyes

I think this game has spoiled me, i want all games to be like this. Just needs better graphics and a less nonsensical / no-shits-given approach to lore/story.. The updated Dwarf Fortress is high on the anticipation list, though it will be a slight downgrade in graphics compared to even this game.

Replaying the evergreen Dark Messiah of Might & Magic for some cathartic chaos, and also started both the recent-ish isometric adventurous Beautiful Desolation and Darkwood.

I finished Vampire Bloodlines for the third time last week, a timeless experience that I will never not enjoy savoring. Completed the Half-Life replay marathon as well in the meantime with Episode Two (plus the mandatory MMOD), still a fantastic ride quality-wise albeit it truly felt like rubbing salt in the wound. Next one in the list is Pillars 2 turn-based edition, but that will take a while.

Kiwami's not bad but it's telling they touched up the very first Yakuza game but it holds up although I am not a big fan of the Kiwami mode bosses but at least you get options.
(And this is a bike.)

The ports they did and hopefully are continuing to do for this series will be a bit of a odd experience for anyone new to the series.

Yakuza 0 as one of the later entries overall with a impressive story also serving as additional backstory but with references to at least up to Yakuza 5 through the side stories.

Yakuza Kiwami as a remake of the first Yakuza game organizing and changing some side stories and retaining but altering the progression and combat system from Yakuza 0 slightly.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 then goes up to the Dragon Engine from Yakuza 6 but upgrades it substantially although the game loses a fair bit of existing content like Club Adam and one (small) area used in a later chapter though they do also add content and retain some stuff plus it's the Dragon Engine so you have vertical exploration, seamless transitions and ... physics. Very Happy

Yakuza 3 if the 3 - 5 compilation happens would then be a straight port with a few changes although it won't be like the old Yakuza 3 release where a lot of stuff was cut from the game because SEGA was making mistakes and trying to lean in on I think GTA for a while promoting the game in the west and changing it up a bit.
(The dub for Yakuza 1 is a thing. Razz )

4 and 5 should be more modern and less clunky at least even if they too are more straight up ports.

And then Yakuza 6 as the first in the Dragon Engine but lacking some of the older mechanics and the physics based combat system needed some further refining.

Judgement as one of the newer games though more of a spin-off but they really improved on the engine by this point and the combat looks much improved plus it actually has a new full English dub.

And now Yakuza Like a Dragon as the seventh game but another change up to the combat system, going to be interesting to see what happens in this one.

Dead Souls as some zombie spin-off which I think bombed entirely the first time it was released in the West but then through co-operation with Atlus the series revived and this time they retained the Japanese cultural angle a lot better with a much improved localization with far less name and term changes.

Oya-Bun!
(Fuma too whatever that came from.)

Ishin and Kenzan too but apparently problematic content around drugs and prostitution makes for some tougher challenges for releasing at least one of these in the west without dramatically altering far as I read some major and important story events.

Curiously they also did some change to Yakuza 3 toning down a reference to rape but that's retained in Yakuza 0 as some side stories get a bit darker instead of the usual spin into goofy territory many of them end up in.
(Also removed some cross-dressing Kiriyu stalker although for all editions guessing that is just gone without any replacement content.)

Not that big of a thing though, just a bit inconsistent in how they're doing some things from game to game which I feel is a bit odd but could be due to fan feedback or backlash.

Interesting to see Yakuza 7 or Like a Dragon since they removed the numbering is also retaining the full English dub they had in Judgement (Judge Eyes) guessing SEGA is really betting on the series in the West now because they also adapted the lip sync animations as a extra detail and it's sounding like a pretty good dub effort overall. Smile

Think the other game Fist of the North Star also got one, wonder if that could get a PC port too eventually whatever SEGA has planned here other than the earlier leakage confirming at least something with Yakuza 6 was planned for PC but that was some two years ago already and nothing much since.

Gaming wise and backlog well clearing out the Borderlands 3 content and then back to Monster Hunter World where Iceborne puts the players of a receiving end for being a monster and killing off poor Dragon JR and then using his remains to murder his family too because it wasn't quite enough for a full gear equip from one just one of these critters.

"Research"

Yep.

EDIT: Yeah that's a bit of text.

Series as it gets ported over is going to be a bit funky going back and forth in tech and gameplay and I think by Yakuza 0 the story had gotten increasingly convoluted and twisty which is one reason Y0 also stands out and is so well received plus it makes for a good starting point overall but can also be played after the Y1 to Y5 games and getting some of these added references and inserts or shout-outs to those. Very Happy

Localization wise it sounds like Atlus US is doing a incredibly good job now with the games and these re-releases now without cuts or trying to Westernize the series even getting a bit creative but still retaining a similar meaning and overall improving readability and such.
(Which I suppose fits as the series is still very text heavy with frequent voice-less dialogue heh, well that's not surprising when there's so much of it.)

I'm still surprised that they have not ported Judgment to PC, they teased it when it was initially released on PS4.

Ishin and Kenzan are heavily requested by the fans during the years, but SEGA doesn't even entertain the the thought of a port, which is quite sad. There was a fan made translation for both of these games, but I have not checked their progress in recent years.

Dead Souls was a pretty fun experience back when I played it on the PS3, it was a departure from the series as a whole with the addition of zombies and stuff, but it was still pretty cool.

Y 3-5 should come out on PC soon, with the release and announcement of Yakuza Kiwami 2 for Xbox One, I think SEGA were waiting for them to catch up so they can release it simultaneously for Xbox and PC. The studio that was responsible for the PC ports of Yakuza is working on 3 unannounced PC games since late last year, so yeah. Yakuza 6 will probably come out after the trilogy, as you said it was leaked back in 2018.

The First of The North Star situation is a little bit tricky, because allegedly there were some licensing issues that were preventing SEGA from porting the title to PC and that is why it's currently only on the PS4 and at some point it is scheduled to be removed from the PS store even. Hopefully they find a way to release it on PC, because it is a fun game.

On topic, I'm currently playing Death Stranding and I'm taking my sweet time with it. I enjoy the atmosphere and I'm building roads like crazy currently Laughing

Also I'm finishing for what it feels like the 10th time the Ace Attorney original trilogy. The Phoenix Wright series are one of my favorites series of all time and I recommend it to everyone that enjoys "courtroom drama" games with a great story.
