I put my windows 7 pro key in, said it failed try again later. Rebooted my computer for an update, message pops up saying they are adding features, now have windows 10 pro
Thanks for the tip
I also updated the bios to 2407 today, that Noctua looks interesting.
Ok, Boiler just gave me a window to ask my laughable question: Did anyone here ran Windows 7 with one of the ryzen's?
Have a windows 7 partition (it just plays better with older gamebryo stuff, at least when running a i5-4690K that's definitely the case) that has both heavily modded oblivion and FONV installed, and while FONV would be fairly easy to "move" to the win10 partition (MO2) OB's would be a fucking nightmare since it's all wrye bashed.
So after upgrading MB+CPU+RAM in the future, how likely would my win7 partition even be able to boot, assuming that the ryzen won't just point at it, laugh and tell me to fuck off?

If you are upgrading the MB, just be normal and reinstall Windows. But then there really shouldn't be any good reasons for someone not to upgrade to Win 10, it's 2020 damnit

Dual boot

You can dual boot Win10 and Linux too. If dualbooting is your thing.

Is there really a performance difference between W7 and W10?

Think it's mostly for older CPU's though. I would/will be surprised if the difference is still there when I'm running those games with a 3900x or so. My main reason for even attempting it is that somehow moving that modded oblivion onto Win10 would be a pain in the ass, it took aaaaaaaages to set up and fine tune

Now that is a reason I can understand. All these hours of modding just wasted. Dayum...

Continuing my Ryzen transformation. Picked up the new HP ENVY x360 13" 4700U (8 core) today. Dream machine to replace my tablet, which it will, rather nicely Gonna replace the NVMe drive though, as it's performance is lacking. Beautiful screen, and a fuckin beast for its size , all for under a grand. We have come a long way.
If you get it direct from HP, which I did, they are doing a good deal of throwing in the '3 year pick up and return warranty' for nothing (usually £100) + a certain voucher code which I found, which also knocks £50 off the total, so £950.00 delivered Steal!
Yeah, gotta say that HP Envy looked rather great for the price.
Arrived today.
Beast, it really is, for the size, and fan is pretty good on full. Loaded with utter shit, as per usual, but more so with HP. So, shit on top of shit. Spent the night making a less shitless copy of 2004 in NTLite, gonna shove that on in morning. McAfee Firewall/Internet Security/System Protection + Windows Firewall/Defender/Malware Protection + HP Security Center all installed and running, lol, WTF!?? Do they think I work for the Pentagon? I know I now got 8 cores on my laptop, but could I at least have one of them free?

I also see MS never stops it sneaky tricks. Unit came with Win10 Home, and they have stopped users from using a 'local' account on that version, and 'MUST' use an MS one! No longer is the option to skip, or anything. Fuckin cunts! Preying on the weak and unwary, as that is the user base for 'home', so they get away with it. Had to look it up, but it can be solved by disconnecting router, so when the screen comes up for creating the account, it says 'something went wrong', and lets you create a local one eventually. No, something went right fuckwits!
Upgraded to Pro once in, with the many Technet Win7 keys I have, so will no longer have that problem, as this doesn't happen on Pro, for now.
HP made it rather hard to access the unit, a bastard in fact, which gave me problems from the off. The rear top 3 screws are Philips, but covered by a long strip of rubber, which serves as one of the back feet, the bottom one can be left untouched. Peeling this off carefully was not easy, and getting it back was worse, as it had stretched while peeling, so is now too long to fit. Had to rig a bypass circuit and trim it, but I can see it coming away with little use. 2 Torx screws sit below front rubber strip, so no problems there. Spudgers galore to prise the cover off, as it's tight, real tight, (5 in there at the same time before it started giving) and if you use metal, you will fuck the cover. Why the fuck do they do that? Just to be a cunt?, like MS?
Got NVMe drive replaced OK, but because original had a single chip on it, the 970 Pro was thicker, so heat sink bent up at one end - FFS!!! Got around problem by wrapping Kapton tape around drive and sink, at one end, to allow it to sit flush once screwed in.
All good and running well, but a FUCKIN PAIN IN THE ASS!!!

Gettin too old for this nonsense.
I also thought of getting that but I guess I'll go for the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14". Maybe even the 4500u. It has less cores but a higher base clock.
