Not sure how many people here liked or played the game, but... : http://www.warhammeronline.com/article/Warhammer-Notice-Shutdown

Personally I loved it, at least for the brief time I spent with it. There was a lot of potential in the game and the basic gameplay idea behind it, sadly it was never truly realised. For a while I had a blast, though, with some cool moments I'll never forget.

It was bland and not very well thought out, was in beta and then it already showed it brought not much to the table. Think the only worthwhile addition to the MMO genre was public quests.

If they made DAOC with a warhammer skin it would have had more success but they dumbed it down. Should have closed it down a lot earlier, because this was always it's destiny. Feel sad for the players tho.

Horrible warhammer adaption, so by default I was very skeptical. The game itself was okayish, but not enough to make me buy it - it seemed to lack a direction and that special something. I tried the beta and it never felt like a warhammer world either so meh.

I never want a mmo to shutdown even if I do not like it, but in this case the license could move on? So it could be a good thing.

The original Warhammer Online by Climax sounded a lot better concept-wise as I recall.

My heart is bleeding... All the MMO's released by EA had a short life. The only MMO that managed to still stay open is...Ultima Online?!!!!

I expect that SWTOR will die pretty soon. Does not have the customer base that EA hoped, it's a money pit for EA right now ( could be salvaged if EA would care, but it doesn't ).

EA managed to frag a great MMO like DAOC. And their Warhammer looked like a bloody World of Warcraft clone.

I'd rather see someone that knows and loves the Warhammer Universe doing a MMO ( and i'd love a Warhammer 40k MMO even more, provided that is well made ).

I liked some of the things about it - and I really liked the public quest concept. One thing I miss in most of the modern games with public stuff is the ranking sytem in Warhammer - which was somewhat more involved and gave you real incentive to perform well.

In GW2, for instance, you don't really have to do anything to get a Gold performance during events - and that removes the incentive to do something extra.

So many games with so much potential and huge budgets have failed in the MMO segment - it's really sad.

SWtOR had so much potential - and I actually like the game quite a bit. But it's clearly not a high priority anymore - and I don't believe the SSSP can turn it around. That said, a proper freeform space segment would be the perfect addition and it would likely make it my top themepark MMO - given the current market.

My god yes, and it was based on warhammer fantasy instead of warhammer battle. I was so excited, it LOOKED FUCKING DARK like it should.

Actually evidence would point to it being just the opposite. I suspect they are making quite a tidy sum from the cash shop. Presumably we'll find out at some future earning call.

I wouldn't be holding your breath. I was hoping for something akin to SWG's JTL at least, but it doesn't look like it will be as good as that. Early signs point to it being a free-flight version of the current rail shooter, with added PvP.

Yes. As much I hate the whole overplayed "grimdark" thing, the two Warhammer settings (Fantasy and 40K) are a place where it is actually appropriate (although these days it seems almost a parody).

For those not familiar, this might be of interest - http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/12/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-what-ifs-climaxs-warhammer-onli/

Wow cool update Sin, was always curious to see a private server for Warhammer Online. The game had such potential, a private server might actually tap into it by modifying certain game assets.

in the forum section you have links for the complete client (you need latest one). And for login, simply register on their site, that's the login.

Started playing, it's smooth and working and no lag, yet.

And it's only opened like 10 days ago, so it's all pretty fresh. And seeing as the official servers are down, i think more and more people will eventually end up there. We'll see. I just need something to waste my time rofl.

I wonder how long that has been in development for? SWG Emu has been dragging on for years and they still are a long ways off last I looked. That WAR one looks like they have passed a lot of milestones. It's clearly not something that just got thrown together recently.

ugly? it was fine if I remember rightly. ugly as in now out of date maybe lol. But ugly is a little harsh Very Happy

I liked my shammy healer but left game due to hackers. If I don't see anyone flying around in the sky fireball shooting then I would be playing this a ton..... They almost had the pvp aspect spot on, just ruined later down the line.

Edit: just looked at the progress Very Happy Long way to go for pvp really, not many will join this till something more substantial is in place.

3500 pop server, almost balanced (like 45/55 Order/Chaos)

Played a bit and it runs good (64 bit), no lag, a lot of people, all things considered.

And free.
