to answer my own question: yes, as long as the minvercheck results in 3.56 or less, you don´t need any hardware except a usb device to jailbreak it.
mine is a fat,full of dust and i´ll do my best to apply new termal paste and maybe add a fan to the case so it won´t die from YLOD until i played all those exclusives

Did anything ever get released for jailbroken PS3s that allow region free playback of DVDs (or BR) discs? Was about to buy a region free player when I remembered I had a couple of these laying around.
