Hi guys,
after 9,5 years I finally upgraded from my beloved i5 2500k to ryzen 3600.
Got one question. I'm on a box cooler from Amd - wraith or something...
I got 40-65 C using firefox plus tidal... max 88 C when gaming and testing. The cooler is properly installed.
I'm getting some new cpu cooler soon, but I would want to know if everything is in order.
ps. temp in room is quite high - 27 C.

looks normal to me for an AMD Boxed Cooler..
the temps should go down to around 30-40 idle and max. 70 under stress if you get an good aftermarket cooler..
But 65C° while browsing? hmm, seems a tad high for me, even with the stock cooler..
Did you check if the paste maked contact everywhere?
But like i sayd, this shoud go away with an proper Cooler.

Ryzen can get quite hot because it constantly overclocks itself whenever a core gets used, and it throws a lot of voltage at it.
So even when doing simple things temps can spike, and depending on what you use to read the temps it might even show them too high (at some point readouts in various programs were 20°C too high, right? there's also serveral temp sensors on the ryzen you sometimes don't know what temp you get shown)
I never tried my 3700x with the stock cooler though. Using a noctua dh15 and it maxes out slightly below 70°C for me. Idle about 35-40, mild usage around 45-55
It would start throttling at 95°C I believe so technically it's all good.
Maybe check your temps in Ryzen Master too if you used something else, and if you want to get it under control in the meantime, drop the dynamic boost stuff for a stable all core overclock at a fixed voltage or something.

I have the 3950x on a Kraken x62 and it's the same for me. Idle temps are hovering between 28 and 50 and in game maybe 65-70 worse case scenario.
I use core temp and CPUID HWMonitor...even had a core go up to 4.9ghz on it's own while I was at work loll
I also changed in the power options the cpu minimum state to 5%
That way on idle, frequencies go down to 2.19ghz. Saves power while i am not using it since it's running 24/7.

For ref, my newest rig at the sig can reach 80-85C using Handbrake to encode a vid from 1080p to 720p , all audio and sub tracks, h264.
For me:
-Temps go between 35-4#c up n down randomly even if i don't touch the PC
-Do a little task and ramps up to 50c around
-Gaming on DOOM ETERNAL for example reaches around 70 few Cs
-Handbrake 80-85c
Using a Noctua NH-U12S Chromax Black with 1 fan at 1500RPM all the time (Can barely hear it at all with my tower set to high via it's tower buttons). I ordered back then a 2nd fan (Noctua's suggestion) but did a weird buzzing noise when attached... I returned it, but it seems i had to use some thicker rubber pads from my Chromax and... Well, biggest facepalm ever. But temps would just drop what, 2-3c?...
It was a NF-F12 PWM 1500RPM "ugly looking" fan, NOT the brutal jet sounded Industrial model 2000RPM fan.
All of this in a 25c-27c room, sometimes cooled out, and with Ryzen Master for checkings. NO OC'ing at anything (Not the RAM, nor the CPU, and not even undervolting things. I don't want to kill my mobo like my previous Z170. Don't ask, don't force)
Yet i got used to these temps as long as i don't touch anything else. Most specially with Handbrake (I tried doing Handbrake and a game and reached 90-92C. I had to inmediatly stop there, since these RYZENs have a 95C peak and....I don't want to burn it)
And yes, my CPU clocks goes up n down randomly too, and the BIOS shows 1.4## V going up n down randomly

On a couple of occasions, when I've left my pc (3900x Crosshair Viii Impact x570) idle, I've come back in the room and the fans are blowing full tilt. I've checked Ryzen master and the CPU has been ~80°C. On both occasions I've checked task manager and there's been nothing out of the ordinary. Soon after it settles down. It never even reaches near those temps when gaming.
I've since upgraded to the latest BIOS, which came out earlier this month, and its not happened again, yet.
Has anyone with a Ryzen CPU observed this type of behaviour in the past?

I don't know, but i've been using my RYZEN for 4-5 weeks only, and the 1st thing i did was flash the BIOS to the latest 1407 stable version and then format W10.. No isses like that... YET...
EDIT: There's a new BIOS for my MoBo with AGESA PI 1.0.0.1 but i don't wanna touch that

I scanned the whole system after the first occasion and it came back clean. As I say, it's only happened twice and it was only the CPU that was under load. I assumed it was a software issue and hoped the new BIOS would remedy it. So far so good. I was just curious if anyone else had seen odd behaviour like this before.

All cpus ( Intel or AMD ) nowadays get hot. Ones hotter than others.
@slal, your values are normal for stock cooler.
If you want to play safe buy some aftermarket cooler ( Noctua, artic, etc ).
I have an 2600X and with PBO and CPB on gets 40/45ºC idle and 95/100ºC while playing with the stock cooler ( now it's summer I turn off PBO and CPB ).

I guess I've been very lucky with my Ryzen 7 3700X with just the included cooler (Wraith Prism). Worst case it idles at 42-48C and max temp doesn't go beyond 74-76C, tested with Prime95, Cinebench R20 and some heavy gaming. Testing was performed today with 33-34 C outdoors (30-31 in the room where my rig is).

It also depends alot on the overall airflow in the case. Those top down coolers don't add to the flow but just disperse the air on the mobo.

Unless I've missed someone I believe I'm the only one left who still rolls with it. I hope it can survive the summer, last year I had to temporarily remove the overclocking since it was starting to behave like the Chernobyl reactor.

For stock settings, that is an amazing multi score.

My i5 is still alive and rock solid(aswell as asrock p67 pro3)- highly oc and with 2133 ddr3 - I think it's still pretty decent. It stays in my family - I gave it to my parents along with my 1060 gtx so my nephew could play some fortnite |
Haha nice. Becoming a Fortnite Personal Console is probably worse than death, but at least it's still useful
@Boiler: indeed, anything above 1080p is prohibitive especially with many cars/AI interactions. UE4-powered games also tend to disclose the processor's old age, without mentioning handling crowded battles in the Total War series or worse, in ArmA. It's still relatively valid, but it really feels like scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It means less work for us. But on the other hand, OCing and testing a CPUs limit has always been the most fun part in the first weeks. |
I agree. OC is the most fun part about a desktop PC, getting the most and pushing the limits
Ryzen is, unfortunately, not good for that. This is a whole new beast, and it's gonna take me some time to get to grips with it. Been a long long time since I've had an AMD system, so time will tell.
3 tips:
Always install the latest AMD Chipset drivers from their site, and not your motherboard variant. Do NOT let Windows 10 install anything beforehand!, else, wipe and start again.
Grab the '1usmus-ryzen-power-plan-1.1' power profile, and use this, instead of the Ryzen Balanced one. Change HD sleep to never, and min CPU to 20%, save.
Stick with the profile settings. This is not Intel, and as much as I loved running my 8700k 24/7 @ full clocks, there is no benefit in doing so with Ryzen, unless you wish to generate heat needlessly? This thing boosts when it needs to, so that is that.
3 concerns u may have:
The CPU temps fluctuate wildly.
Normal. Moving the mouse across the screen can see temps rise and fall by 10-15 degrees, yup, once settled, it shows a really low temp. Normal.
The CPU temp is rather high:
Normal. I had mine on an AIO at first to try, but no, 69 idle was not cutting it for me. Spent the extra on a decent WB and returned to the loop, now 25-45 idle, and never goes above 65 gaming. Cooling is key here.
I'm thinking about skimping on RAM speed.
Don't! 3200 minimum, but 3600 max, and refrain from even thinking of clocking them.
3200 is what I have had since Intel, and it works just great. (14-16 CAS)
