i played the xbox demo its EXACTLY the same as the ps2 version. It just looks alot sharper which leads me to call bullshit on IGN no way on earth those videos they posted saying this is the ps2 version are the ps2 version. On the xbox you can see alot better what you are doing and objects in the distance and the explosions and particles look helluva lot better on the xbox version.

The xbox demo was problary just a newer build than the ps2 demo which was a very old build.
It makes no sense that the xbox version would look much better since Critereon always build their games around the ps2. If they made their games for the xbox first of all, then all the burnout games and any other game they made would look alot better on the xbox compared to the ps2 since the xbox has more power. But as we all know, they dont.
I think they choose to focus on the ps2 and then just make the more or less same version on the xbox since this is the fastest way of doing two versions. Instead of doing a more advanced version on the xbox first and then port it over to the much harder platform, the ps2.

Ign have obviously also played a newer build than what we have.

The framerate was also a lot better on the Xbox version of the Demo.

ummm burnout revenge looks better on my xbox compared to my ps2. This demo is exactly and i mean down to the last bit the same as the ps2 version the difference is the frame rate is better the aiming is smoother (we all know the ps2 controller is shit for FPS games) and the textures and draw distance are way better on the xbox it looks smoother FPS games on ps2 always kinda look blocky because of the lower res, the smoke and particle effects look better. I'll put money on it that there's gonna be a bit of a difference in the graphics quality/frame rate department between the two versions, ps2 just doesnt cut it for FPS games.

Anyways i'm hoping this game blows me away i havent been blown away by a game since god of war on the ps2, that game was a mile stone in design and production with wicked gameplay to boot. I'm hoping this game turns out as explosive as the previews and hype would lead you to beleive

It seems about right to me that the Xbox version would look slightly better, even if by slightly they mean slightly enhanced clearer textures and crisper graphics with a more stable framerate. Depends on your definition of better though, even slightly better counts as better to me. I don't feel the need to constantly jump on the mine is bigger/better than yours ship because I have both consoles and the best that both machines have to offer graphically more than satisfies my current gen expectations.

Gamespot are a site that I don't really have all that much time for in general, I use my PS2 very scarcely now so what I do like is their multi platform reviews and the comparisons they make between games across platforms - Burnout 3 and Revenge were both noted as having crisper graphics on the old Xbox, the reviewer even said there was no comparison between Burnout 3 on the Xbox and PS2 in favour of the Xbox. That seems a little extreme to me but I've seen enough of these multi platform reviews (EA ones in particular) to agree that Black will look slightly better and run smoother. I wouldn't be surprised if they favour it over the PS2 version simply for the Live features of the game on the Xbox that seems the trend in their prior games reviews.

All thats by the bye though, personally from what I've seen both PS2 and Xbox gamers are in for a real treat, the game looks great on both machines so no need really to snipe over which version is slightly better. As I said on another thread its just nice to see a steady stream of quality exclusive console games what with the Xbox360 being out and the other next gen consoles not being far off - roll on this and Starcraft: Ghost. dvsone, I never said that it doesn't look better, I said that it doesn't look much better. I have also played the games on both platforms, and the xbox version is crisper but it's hardly a big difference and this is because, as I said earlier, Critereon always develop their games around the ps2 hardware. This is why their games run at 60fps on the ps2 with visuals that are close to the xbox version.
If their games would be developed around the xbox, to take advantage of the xbox's superior hardware, then the ps2 wouldn't archive these 60fps and these great visuals which is damn close to the xbox's visuals.

And dvsone, how is Ign lying? If you look at the "Up the hill" video you can clearly see how the square button pops up when you get the chance to swap weapon. Wink
So the videos are very much from the ps2 version.

So ps2 people, dont worry, you will get a just as smooth game as the xbox people. Smile

This is not a "which is better" post, I just want to clear things up. Smile

On a sidenote, both controllers are poo when it comes to fps, the gamecube owns both systems at this. Razz

yeah Critereon is one of the few companies that can make a game on Ps2 virtual identical to its xbox counterpart, just like it did with its Burnout series.

EA take note!

I finally got the chance to give the demo a quick 30 mins play through a couple of hours ago, better late than never I guess.

Overall I was impressed - I love the feel of the game, the weapons/movement have a very heavy feel about them which to me is nigh on perfect and what I look for in a good FPS game. The graphics look great although I think the Xbox has its fair share of good looking games so I wasn't blown away, it is impressive when you consider just how much is going on and how smoothly it runs.

Like Weedo though in playing through the demo I was kind of puzzled. I fully expected to be able to destroy everything and expected the havok physics to be more pronounced more in the vein of Painkiller i.e. shooting an enemy with a shotgun around the kneecap and having the shot leg swing back, the inertia of this causing them to fall head over heels. In this though I didn't see much evidence of any real usage of physics when killing the enemies, the best death sequences were the scripted ones where you say attack someone on a balcony and they somersault over the railing when shot. I suppose this is becoming a trend though Serious Sam 2 talked of having great physics and when that came out although I liked the game compared to something like Painkiller the physics seemed extremely basic.

Fuck it though, for a 100 megabyte demo its pretty enjoyable and im sure the full game is going to be substancially better than a 3 minute apetiser, I can't wait to try out some of the heavier weapons and connect this up to an expensive 5.1 set of speakers to get the full experience. Smile

heh, yeah i tried it myself yesterday as well.

and yeah, indeed it looks sweet. im hoping for a release this week.

the "balcony" killing i thought looked a bit weired though. i would have thought the guy would fly backwards, but instead he came flying down my way. hmmm nevermind, takes away only little from the game as a whole.

crossing fingers.

Everyone will obviously not like it Oddmaker, as with any game.
It would be one hell of a game if every single person enjoyed a game. Wink

ok to put this to rest i emailed their pr a few days ago and finally got a response. Both demos are old builds and were used at E3 last year, they were built around roughly the same time so could be considered fair in a comparison way. The xbox version looks and controls heaps better than the ps2 (thats not to say it doesnt look good for a ps2 game) so i'll stick by what i said and having both the demos i can say xbox is clrly the winner from these builds.

If it's one thing I have learned in my 28 years, it's to not bother with people that wont listen.

So I will explain the demo deal, and leave it at that.
It's not strange that the xbox demo runs better, because it takes alot less time to get something up and running at good speeds on the xbox than it does on the ps2, this is basic knowledge (harder to program on the ps2, remember?). And therefor it can never be a fair comparison because the ps2 needs more time to produce what the xbox do in less time. And that's why the xbox demo runs better, and that's why it's a fucked up comparison.

The videos is what you shuld look at, and they look absolutley incredible and runs absolutley incredible. End of discussion.

I take it not many people bother with you then? You know, God hates fanboi's.

how is the gameplay? I played until now only medal of honor europein assault and the contols are crazy for me, unplayable. Left analog is for walk and right for aim, and i really hate it. Are the Black contols the same. Im playing FPS only on PC with a mouse.

"Left analog is for walk and right for aim". How else would you have it? Thats the only way to play fps on a console.

i know some people who use left stick for horizontal aiming and walking forwards/backwards,
right stick for strafing and vertical aiming.
i know it sounds weird but a friend of mine plays like that and does it pretty good, so i guess its a thing of commotion.

I haven't played an FPS on a console in a while. After playing Call of Duty 2, FEAR, Half-Life 2, and Battlefield 2 all on PC, my precision sucks. I can aim in the enemies general direction, but I can't really get precise with my shots. Also, turning around seems much slower. I miss the mouse and keyboard.
