I'm currently playing Origins, and it's just too big. These games need to be much shorter. I would have cut it in half because while the world is beautiful, the content is just copy-paste from the first two hours. |
This +100000.
For a 3th person acion title, devs should focus on a good capaign for 20 hours (or 40 if the budget is huge), with some optional completionist stuff for those who like it. Jedi Fallen order did this right. Just a short capaign and the option to look for some secrets but the extra stuff is presented in a way that is is completly optional. While playing assasins creed I always get the feeling the extra stuff is the game and I can't ignore it, even though I hate doing that stuff. I tried oddysey with a mind set to focus on the main story. I couldn't, the game just begs you to do all the side stuff. I stopped playing the game when I found my 3th or 4th "hidden" treasure and was just in time for a refund. Last assasins creed game i'll ever play. |
You'd better say: last Ubisoft open world game you'll ever play. Because they're all like that.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is less grindy apparently ...
https://press-start.com.au/features/2020/05/01/we-spoke-to-assassins-creed-valhallas-creative-director-ashraf-ismail-and-got-all-the-juicy-new-game-details/
Quote: | A lot of people felt that Odyssey forced you to grind to certain parts of the game to take on certain enemies or missions. Has that been looked at and balanced here?
Ashraf Ismail: Well, with Valhalla, with the balancing of the game, it’s our angle, our goal is to just let players play the content they want. Again we built a really intriguing world that takes place in Dark Ages England and Norway. By the way, when you leave Norway to England, you can always go back to Norway, so we built these really beautiful breathtaking living worlds, and we want players to play the content as they wish to play it. That’s the way the game is being balanced. So, people want to focus on narrative, there’s no issue there, people want to focus on their settlement, again, no issue there. It’s really up to players to decide how they want to consume the content. That’s always been our angle and again, this, we’re showcasing Eivos’ personal journey, we’re really focused on that. So again, if people want to focus on that personal journey and the relationships that come out of that they can do that. |
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Words that won't mean anything until you see the cash shop, because that is an actual thing they do again and again. :>

game will be more like origins than odyssey, and a game that will let you play whatever means it wont excel at anything. and norway will only be a small thing? wtf? and those screenshots look nothing like a nextgen

It's a cross-gen game development starting likely shortly around Origins or Odyssey so I wouldn't expect any major leaps since Ubisoft builds a game that runs on PS4, Xbox One the two more powerful models and then PS5 and the new XBox.
Can't really build the core part of the game around the newest hardware if it also has to run on the old stuff but I do hope they'll throw out D3D11 on the PC version at least in favor of native Vulkan support as that will really remove the API bottlenecks that Origins and Odyssey suffered from.
So this API can do up to these many draw calls and the game is like several times that recommendation, plus improvements to multi-threading and performance overall. More so n AMD because their D3D11 performance is currently all weird but also for NVIDIA even if it's a smaller extent because their D3D11 performance isn't that hampered by bugs and driver overhead and missing (Important though optional.) features.
I would expect ray tracing to be featured but I have no idea if the PC version will go with RTX (NVIDIA only.) or a open or custom version (Which, doesn't exist? There's DXR for D3D12 but that's just one part of it.) but then that would mainly enhance certain parts of the game engine and visuals.
Wouldn't be bad though, Ubisoft has some very "optimized" effects meaning they aren't all that great visually so the ambient occlusion has a lot of bleeding and artifacts, reflections are primarily screen-space with a lot of errors and camera dependencies and shadows and such though it's mostly the amount of geometry and draw calls and thus very aggressive culling and LOD's which is a different issue altogether.
Duncan for DeadEndThrills actually modified Origins to do better but it becomes incredibly demanding and also incredibly unstable even a bit above the default max values so the engine doesn't really handle it well even if it's masked better here than the earlier games.
I'd expect exclusives and year 2 and on games to take better advantage of the hardware for the new consoles and however those PC ports will run or not, building something against the limits of a traditional HDD for what can be handled on a SSD is also a big divider that can't easily be overcome with cross-gen compatibility.
(Sure the game can start up quicker but there's more benefits that could be used if HDD's weren't a factor at all.)
Rest of it is nice but more incremental so a few more cores, additional memory (At last!) and a bigger GPU though the PS4 Pro and One X already covered for a little bit of that.
Development targeting 4k as a major thing also means other visual elements are scaled back to maintain 30 or 60 FPS, 60 FPS and even if it's upscaling is going to require some sacrifices in particular but 30 FPS isn't going away much as that'd be a huge improvement.
(Much as people love to state otherwise and somehow current-gen 30 FPS is much smoother than prior gen 30 FPS. ~ Ha ha well the fancy shader effects and especially not hitting frame drops into the 10's or 20's probably do help a bit.)

Current gen console CPU´s cannot even be compared to the Zen 2 CPU´s that are inside the new consoles, the difference is insane.

Yea pretty much. They're all based on a AMD's jaguar architecture. Which is a pre-Ryzen low-power CPU architecture that wouldn't be good enough for todays average laptop.

Most if not all "RTX" games are using DXR already and are just waiting for AMD GPUs to support those instructions. Like Metro Exodus for example or ironically even Quake II RTX.
"RTX" is just a Nvidia specific implementation of DXR.
Pretty much all the games where you can enable raytracing on Pascal GPUs should work for AMD as well, because they're just using plain old non accelerated DXR on those GPUs aswell.
And everything else would be artifical restrictions by Nvidia. Which I assume is the case with Minecraft RTX - doesn't launch without a 2000 series card afaik.

Yeah hardly can call this gameplay.
I hope they trimmed down the "?" Icons, i'm nearing 100 hours in Odyssey and tho I'm still having fun, a better approach will be less filler
Like random quests and more side quests. Ofc they are not mandatory but i was tempted to clear the region i was and that's was not a smart move.
Also an upgraded combat will be nice, i rather have 20-30 good and
unique weapons then 5000 the same weapon just higher stats.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Will Be Shorter and Smaller Than Odyssey to Address Bloat Criticism
Quote: | While Odyssey's epic scale and 60 hour+ length were appreciated by many, there was mention of the amount of less meaningful content and long travel times between major moments. In our mostly glowing review, we did single that out for criticism: "Oftentimes the payoff of a major character reveal was dulled because I had to spend six hours chasing my tail through half the Greek world to reach it." |
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Looks marginally better graphics wise than the previous iteration of this game.
This IP needs binning. Surely they could have come up with a standalone Viking game without all the Assassin's Creed shit tacked on.

Really doubt it will be released in October, otherwise they would not say "Holiday 2020".
November or early December seems more realistic.

You sweet summer child, that's exactly why it's still using the IP in the name. Because it sells. |
It's hardly a hallmark of quality.

its easier to use ac name and also do a ac game since they already have the game mechanics, then only need to adapt a story around them.
them doing a standalone game would have to create new game mechanics too
