Hey maybe our protagonist is Rollo depending on whether Alfred's king of Wessex or the Anglo-Saxons during the time period.

The Anglo-Saxons should just get along with the Vikings. I mean they were originally from around Denmark anyway. Game should be about the Welsh, the true Britons.

Yeah in terms of historical accuracy the series has deviated a bit especially the later games and of course DLC but already in the early promo screenshots you get what looks like very elaborate scale armor designs, full stone castle constructions and later Christian imagery and whatever else I'm no history buff by far but I know some of this stretches into the 1200's or later especially going with greatswords and stuff from the concept art on armor designs and the like.
Second one is already a bit out there with the greatsword and precursor style flail but the third design goes almost Lord of the Rings fantasy meets For Honor.

@JBeckman I think only the left one seems somewhat historical, the other 2 seem way out there. Could just be some outfits you get with special editions of the game. They do that all the time.
Yeah the pre-order outfits can also be just about anything, premium items had some thematic stuff going for them but they also utilized a lot of particle effects and special gear that became increasingly fantastic as to be more awing and impressive I suppose plus the recent Ezio outfit again.
In-game armor and weapons range from outdated to future gear anyway, I do understand the gameplay segregation as well and having a more clearly defined path of progression though that's more in Origins whereas Odyssey had any item in any variant and completely randomized other than fixed legendary gear but you could dress as anything from a basic leather armor to bronzed hoplite with the same stats.
(Mostly, higher-end legendary gear usually had a golden appearance which stood out more.)
Far as history goes Black Flag and on has been more open and direct in changing stuff around and the overall characterization and facts gone more for stylized or "Hollywood" than historical so the gear is mostly a smaller note plus the way they're handling things with these ancients or precursors and the timeline it could be anything and go to almost anything.
Will be interesting to see what they do whether Laylaa sort-of in-game reboots the series or goes for something else or whatever twist or spin Ubisoft is aiming for here which is what it's looking like.
Since it was such a popular feature too I expect the layering system to return and outfits can be morphed or changed to anything for visual only effect retaining stats and all that.
But it's a GAAS type title so chances are the major updates for the first year or so will also be bringing in popular requested features or convenient functions in addition to bug fixes and whatever the major DLC will be here. (Myths I would imagine so they can play around with that a bit more unless they somehow will be having it in the main story directly somehow.)
Realy don't like the setting. For me the fun thing about assasins creed is just parcouring through a detailes historic city in a setting not to common in gaming. I only finished the one in florence (origins?), and liked the climbing every tower there is most.The gameplay itself is crap with to much filler quest and bulshit, although the main quest in the past was okish. With Vikings this just becomes you're avarage medieval 3th person action game and they'll probably add a shit load of islands to visit with all kinds of braindeath shit to do. No thanks.
This would've been so much better without the AC tag IMO. They should just scrap the AC bits and make a historically inspired action game. I'm willing to bet that's what the devs want anyway.

For a 3th person acion title, devs should focus on a good capaign for 20 hours (or 40 if the budget is huge), with some optional completionist stuff for those who like it. Jedi Fallen order did this right. Just a short capaign and the option to look for some secrets but the extra stuff is presented in a way that is is completly optional. While playing assasins creed I always get the feeling the extra stuff is the game and I can't ignore it, even though I hate doing that stuff. I tried oddysey with a mind set to focus on the main story. I couldn't, the game just begs you to do all the side stuff. I stopped playing the game when I found my 3th or 4th "hidden" treasure and was just in time for a refund. Last assasins creed game i'll ever play.
