This has been covered a few times in this thread, the game is more of a reimagining of RE3 rather than a remake. As such some stuff have been cut and others replaced. The overall story and characters remain the same of course, just completely retold.

If you played the demo, that area is nowhere to be found in the original game, it's a very liberal mix and match of several areas of the original along with new ones. E.g. there is no Moon's donuts in the original, and there is no press building in this one.

And while this seems to be a streamlined retelling of the story, I really like the characterization and lore so far which seem to be deeper than the original. E.g. Murphy has a file with a 4 page diary with backstory in this while he is a nobody in the original. Very Happy

I don't remember much for the original game (almost nothing at all) as i was too young back then Very Happy , so I think it'll be a nice experience for me anyway... I just hope they didn't dumbed down/cut most of the game's puzzles, it was one of the most fun parts on the last game's remake

Unfortunately, this seems to be the cut that is hurting the most to me. Apparently, there are like 2-3 puzzles. There is still backtracking to unlock doors and cases and get weapon upgrades and generally progress the story in general, but as for "enter the code combination" etc. puzzles, there are very few.

I finished a playthrough today.

They cut out the clocktower and the dead factory and replaced it with an extended hospital. Bits removed have been replaced with other things, so it isn't really a straightforward case of cut content.

I enjoyed it overall, and despite what the reviews say it has some replayabillity with the shop/unlock system.

Playtime?

According to Steam - 6 hours, gametime said 4 hr 30 aroundabouts. That was on Standard. I'm going to replay on hardcore and inferno.

Probably about similar to my first RE2 remake playthrough.

Dead Factory is also replaced with the lab.

Anyway, I just reached the sewers (which were not an area in the original RE3, it's an original level here, because hey, we have those sewers assets from RE2make, we better make use of them to save some money Razz ) on hardcore in 2 hours, and so far the game seems cool.

Really recommend that you play on hardcore, if you aren't. It's more evident there because on standard you complete the qte before they even bite you and you wonder why you are not breaking free, while on hardcore I think I noticed that at least most of the time you complete it after they bite you, so the breaking free action makes more sense.

Also, standard is very easy. It's easier than RE2make's standard.

I've played 4 hours on hardcore and I just encountered Nemmy with the rocket launcher. I'd guess this is maybe 1/3rd in the game.

By this time Steelone must have been in the last 3rd of the game, on standard. Razz

Yeah, I'm probably not the best person to judge RE game time by. I seem to always blaze through Resident Evil titles even if it feels as though I'm taking my time.

Man, the RPD is kicking my ass. Laughing

So far the writing, cutscene direction and performances are really cool.

For example, the scene where Jill listens to Mikhail asking some "open ended" questions to Nicholai in the train, and the director shows her face as she listens to them to frame her as a third party eavesdropping something.

Or Nicholai's mannerisms..

I think this is really good stuff for a Resident Evil game.

And all 3 types of encounters I've had with Nemmy (city pursuit, boss battle, run like hell chase) so far have been aces.

The game's lower budget compared to RE2make is evident in the massive reuse of assets and some other areas, but it definitely also does some things better so far.

It also mirrors the original Resident Evil 3 in that it was a bit of a rush job. Both this and the original RE3 had very short development cycles.

Kinda yeah.

1) I'm one of those people that found original RE3 exemplary despite its shorter development cycle and B dev team. It's my favorite in the series.

It also reused very little of RE2 actually (besides engine/mechanics, of course), it's a common misconception it was very heavily based on the RE2 environments because people don't remember it well, while it's just the RPD that was reused, which is like 15 minutes. Even the zombies models were brand new, here they reuse the ones from RE2make.

This one was largely developed by M-Two which Capcom is treating as a sort of second party studio, not owned by Capcom (they have shares though), but working closely together.

2) This one was actually for 3 years in development (while RE2make was for 4, so it must have started 2 years earlier), but M-Two is newly formed and they spent the first year hiring. That leaves only 2 years for more actual development, combine that with growing pains as a company, learning Capcom's engine, etc., while AAA games take staff of hundreds and multiple years to make.

I suppose in the end they were forced to cut a lot of things during development, e.g. the concept art for the bar and warehouse areas show outlines of those spaces like the original game, but in the final game they are practically corridors to be used in cutscene backgrounds.

And no way at some point the Clock Tower wasn't planned for the game. No way this was a decision during the project's start, "let's cut the Clock Tower". It must have been an unfortunate decision they had to make when they run out of time.

I was suspicious when I found that file that described the clock tower. As you say, it was probably intended to be in at some point.

I am curious what purpose it would have served though, especially considering the "chopper sequence" happens much much earlier in the game now.
