6 hours in. Time to go to sleep. Amazing experience. Atmosphere, all the interactions and even the way glass breaks. Just neat

Was that.. was that Apprehensive Short that they played before the fight before the train comes? I will play the fight tomorrow.. that's it for now. 6 hours of gameplay, and I've only started killing Combine in the last 20 minutes. It's really going to be a 15+ hour game it looks like.

Can you stab enemies with glass shards? Or use other objects to attack them?
1 and 2 are still amazing.

I play with borrowed cv1 and it makes me wish I didn't sell my S. But it all works despite cv1 being front facing only. I use snap turning and smooth locomotion

If your index is pre-ordered and your awaiting shipping i'd wait (There is always the backlog while waiting). Playing with Vive is fine, your talking an extra 10% more interactivity, rather "trigger, yank" its "make a fist", using health stations would be placing a flat hand, you can tell collision with world objects is really tight would be fun with the index.

There is no melee in the game. You can stop enemies from hitting you by e. g. holding a lid in front of you like a shield, and you can stun enemies by e. g. throwing your empty clip at a Combine soldier, but you can't do damage at anyone with your hands or objects. Valve's decisions always come from extensive playtesting, so it might be to avoid people getting hurt by punching their walls.
So, shield and stun yes, hurt no.
edit: It's also possible that if you grab a headcrab and smash it to the ground you can cause damage. Because this action already exists to smash crates. But this obviously won't work with Combine who BTW appear massive in this game, very scary

Guys, spare us the bullshit about how sad you are that others aren't going to be able to play the game. You are annoyed you are not going to play it, plain and simple.
swebarb wrote: | VR isnt for everyone, certanly not for casual players... |
False. Beat Saber has sold over 2 million copies. That's a game casuals enjoy a lot, akin to Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, etc. And there are indies that fail to sell 1/8th of that. VR is casual friendly.
swebarb wrote: | This game will be dead and forgotten in a month or two.. |
No it won't, but, also, it's a single player game, what do you expect? It's not an MP game you can play for years every day. Wait for L4DVR for that
swebarb wrote: | valve just dont understand pc gamers anymore.... |
This is one of the "most" PC games to have ever been created by any definition of the word, from the most basic (it's exclusive to PC because it would need to be watered down to run anywhere else), to the more nuanced (how much it pushes the platform and industry forward).

Maybe not in this title but 'walkiNg dead, saints and sinners' has you covered, melee combat in that game is brutal and fun.

I don’t see this game being converted to normal PC, since you’d just breeze through and not pay attention to details and the handling with the gloves just wouldn’t work to any joy. The game is non-essential to the HL story (seems to me, I have not reached the ending) but certainly a milestone in VR gaming. Valve shows how it’s done even when you’re using minor headsets. I don’t get any motion sickness in contrast to converted Games like Skyrim VR where you move just alot more. Alyx is slower and has more attention to details which makes you move less fast. I still only play an hour at a time.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
