Well here's a pleasant surprise. After adamantly stating multiple times that Wrath would be RTwP only, they've just announced a native turn--based mode:

Thanked the creator of the TB mod for Kingmaker and admitted that they used that as a starting point.

Considering how well implemented the TB mod was for KM, this was kind of a no brainer.

The game already uses turns, dice rolls, initiative checks and so on, so it's not that big of a deal to make it TB.

Some poeple are bitching about it though Very Happy

Yep, the comment section is cancerous right now. I don't get why RTWP fans are so salty, they aren't re-balancing the game.

It seems literally all they are doing is natively implementing the KM TB mod and adding some additional UI design to make some of the TB options more obvious.

I just hope they are serious when they say their QA processes have improved. If not, it'll be a year after release before the game is in a playable state.

In fairness, a year is slightly hyperbolic on my part, but it did take them at least two months to fix most of the big showstoppers with Kingmaker.

In the first couple of months there were a lot of save game corruption bugs, and other nasty issues.

They admitted themselves that they didn't have enough staff to properly bug test a game the size of KM.

It was very, very buggy. I bought it 3 days after release, the farther you got the more bugs you encountered. Skills not working, skills reseting, progress reseting, story milestones not activating, crashes. Some quests outright didn't work (like the Artisan ones), some had broken progress (you'd go 1-2-5-3-4, so a guy that got killed at 5 was "resurrected", but counted as dead).

It was still pure joy to play, but it was buggy.

Yeah, I had a playthrough corrupt about 20 hours in. Took me till December 2018 to muster the willpower to restart and push through.

By December it seemed like most of the story bugs were fixed. Still had a lot of performance and stability issues though.

The last chapter took a long time to finish. It still had save corruption all around. The saves "worked", but loading them took 50-60 minutes. Yes, I waited. Then it crashed Laughing

After a few tries I turned on God mode and did everything in one sitting, but still did not get one of the best endings due to a bug in the middle of the game. Thankfully one save edit later I was able to ironicaly punish the main bad, and bang the sexy leaf lady.

Lord, I remember the load time bug. That was something that definitely wasn't completely fixed when I first finished it.

Fortunately it wasn't 50-60 minutes, but it was still a good 5 or so minutes, which on a high end M2 SSD is pretty crazy.

There's definitely an element of Unity shittiness in the save issues. A bunch of other Unity games have similar problems with save bloat and ridiculous load times. It's super apparent how much garbage is in PKM saves when you get to the HATEOT and all of a sudden the load times are almost nothing, since they presumably delete all the unnecessary cruft. I hope this time around that can handle that a bit better.

Which mods would you recommend, Sabine?

200-300 hours is a mild exaggeration. You should be able to do everything in around 100 hours.

As for mods:
  • Turn-Based Combat is the obvious standout.
  • Skip Intro will cut out the unnecessary crap on starting the game and get you straight to the main menu.
  • Infinity Engine-like stats page provides some nice party member summaries.
  • UI Extensions allows you to change around how HP meters and so forth work on the party portraits. Especially useful for classes with pets.
  • Bag of Tricks is extremely useful for all the things it can edit, although it's not a mod for those that can't resist the siren call of cheats. There are lots of nice quality of life changes it allows for though.

There are a few others, stuff like Eldritch Arcana or Call of the Wild that add new classes, Craft Magic Items that does what it says on the tin, or Proper Flanking that changes some mechanics to better match the PnP rules. Some of those I haven't tried, others I'd suggest would probably be better left to a second playthrough. And naturally there are loads of portrait and voice pack mods, but those things are purely aesthetic and down to individual taste.

The craft mod is amazing if you are using a weapon that is poorly represented by loot.

Kingmaker certainly takes longer than 100 hours if you are playing on a higher difficulty level.

It took me 168 on challenging with absolutely everything done. Loved the game to bits. Absolutely loved it! I bought it day 1 and was lucky enough to not encounter bigger bugs. The ending was brutal hard back then - but I loved it to bits. Had to take multiple stabs at the end-boss. Man, it was great though.

Really great.

Kickstarted it with muchos moneys!

If you have any questions about mods or whatever, I'd suggest posting them in the Kingmaker thread to avoid too much off-topic stuff in this thread and getting buried.

Regarding which, they announced that the most important Kickstarter goal was reached: that we'll get to bang the Queen. Also a new bangable companion who has a secret tied to the amulet she wears. I'm guessing she's actually hideous, maybe a hunchback like Yennefer, and is using magic to look like a hot Elf. Or maybe it's an amulet of gender reversal and she's a tranny.

I backed it.

It's the first time I've ever done it - but I feel like Kingmaker was really one of the better CRPGs I've played in a looong while.
