They apparently leaked from a French games publication. If they are fakes they are amazingly well done since the models are far higher quality than anything in D:OS 2 and the UI references 5e systems.

Yeah, why are they going for this type of dialogue? Just write straightforward responses with the tone in () like (Intimidation) or (Charm) etc. This kind of writing is too clunky.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Remember, Diablo was supposed to be turn-based and then they went with the "real-time" way Smile

Anyway, Divinity gameplay with Baldur Gate story... I'm in!

Looking good. I hope they tone down their usual humor since it's hit and miss most of the time.

That's my biggest concern. BG1 and 2 weren't pinnacles of good writing, but they were at-least relatively consistent.

D:OS 2 was all over the place, it swung between being edgy grimdark to monty pythonesque often in the same dialogue.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Damn. Neutral

Not a fan of this... "Divinity OS III" look.

Not a fan of TB combat in a Baldur's Gate game either...

Seems to have more systems then just turn based. One image shows the text Turn based

https://i.imgur.com/qlR4Bmg.jpg

Unnecessary if that is the only system.

Some Codexers think that's probably just an optional non-combat mode, as none of the combat screenshots seem to have that at the top.

The game is probably designed around TB combat.

Yea, they probably go the POE II way.

Still... the aesthetics... it's just way too "Divinity" in those screens.

Damn, son! Neutral This and Cyberpunk were the only games I was really interested in this year...

I agree. From this one single screenshot it looks too much like Divinity. Hopefully that will not be the case.

There is still a good chance it has both turn based and rtwp combat with a toggle like POE2, the Pathfinder mod and now Pathfinder 2 note that 1 screenshot says "in combat" and the other "turn-based" which would only really make sense if it's possible to switch combat modes.

As far as I remember, Pathfinder doesn't have a turn-based options. All you have by default is an option that pauses the game automatically.

It's a very popular mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/pathfinderkingmaker/mods/109
it worked so well that the dev's made it officially a option for the sequel.

The two combat systems are mutually exclusive, in a way. Because RTWP makes for a faster gameplay, you can have more combat. When you translate this into turn-based, you slowdown the gameplay tremendously. PoE2 is a good example for this.

That's why it's best to have it a toggle so you can use rtwp for the small fry to breeze trough and turn based for the big encounters works really well.

I'd rather just have a TB game with hand crafted tough encounters than RTWP with trash encounters.

I really hate the prevalence of trash fights in CRPGs. On the tabletop almost every fight is meaningful.

I agree, it's difficult to care about characters/encounters when the tone and atmosphere are so disharmonious (especially in the long run). Hopefully, Larian will be smart enough to understand the specific weight of the BG franchise. The aesthetics look good to me, although the screens do give the impression of coming from a DOS-meets-DAO hybrid. Fingers crossed Razz

As for the combat, either system is fine to me as long as there's enough depth and everything is designed properly to avoid excessive repetitiveness.

Given we have a Cosmic Horror main threat that looks to be converting the population en masse into abominations, I really do hope the tone is darker. But would appreciate some suitable dark humour to match the mood. As long as it doesn't descend into absurdist humor like D:OS..

1 and 2 are still amazing.

DAO was straight RTwP, just like all their previous games. The only change to the formula that it made was introducing MMO-style cooldowns to abilities, as opposed to the traditional per-encounter or per-rest abilities.

Looks good men.

Maybe the aesthetics are similar to Divinity, but it's the same company so I didn't think they were going to make it look completely different. I was fine with the way Divinity looked anyway so this is fine.
