Well, but for example with There Will Be Blood, I too was as far as possible from being the same circumstances and acting the same, but was enthralled in the story completely from start to finish. Not the case here at all.
There will be blood was also about greed... And you're... Jewish . So that makes sense.
I get what you mean. It's hard to relate to a shit world, shit circumstances. You're watching a train wreck unfold - kid guts and all. Not a snyder, Bay, zemekicks train wreck. It's uncomfortable, it's not enjoyable once you're in it. Reason it's hyped up cause it's different. But under the skin, it's from a guy who did hangover and he went full pretentious on this. A different director would have made it better.
Requiem is hard for me to watch.
It's hip, it's trendy, but it is a bit too much for me.
Same with irreversible.
Joker wasn't poignant, it wasn't clever, it was just different. The pretentious long takes, drawn out scenes are what make it below average. Cut those out, and you cut out the forced pacing. If you need long shots to add "emotion" and make the viewer digest, you're doing it wrong. It only works if the work requires digestion and emotion. Like ddg does sometimes, or malick sometimes as well as few other directors I can't name at 643 am. It's intentional and has a point, here it's see this shit look at it cause I need running time.
It needed it in some spots, like the stairs dancing scene. But they cut that up lol. Couldn't do that in one long 5 minute take? On the stairs it would have worked as a reward as it was intended. But they dragged out other scenes instead to make the viewer feel they're watching artsy French cinema.
So while waiting for a good version of Ford v Ferrari, I checked this out. For a 1966 film, this is truly amazingly shot. Race parts are so much more exciting than anything modern I've watched. You feel like you are participating in the race. No short takes to hide the fact they are faking everything; you follow the race and understand all the time who is who and where. Ahh and that noise! Speaking about long takes above, these are the long takes I love, where they leave the machines do the fucking talking!
So why only 7? Because the acting is ... "60s theatrical". There is some cruft that could have been edited out more tightly. But still, I enjoyed it for what it was, and when it was.
It's 2020 and we still can't hide cuts in long shots.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Part 1 a complete snorefest. 3D was bad.
Part 2 entertaining, and spectacular 3D! Lots of eyecandy.
Disappointing closure tbh. It's a shame that the saga sucks... Could have been much much better overall, and even with these redeeming sugar-coated factors I can sense a lack of heart and an extra of dullness. No tips.

Victoria hid them perfectly
Never heard of it. edit: Ah, there were no cuts at all during filming.

What do you mean?
The film is presented as one long take, from start to finish.
But you can tell when many shots end and the next one begins. I thought in 2020 with a $100M budget you wouldn't be able to. And I'm sure that for many shots I wasn't able to figure them out. But there are also many where I was "here is definitely a new shot stitched together".
For example, when one big sequence ends with the character jumping into water, then the camera is showing just CG water, and then few seconds later, voila, the character emerges again. That's definitely two different shots stitched together.
But even like this, it's certainly very impressive, I'm not saying otherwise.
