One thing I never understood if you can mouth off to someone, they draw a gun, shoot at you, possibly hitting you and when you fight back and knock them out or kill them, it's your fault. Even when strangers ride by seeing them drawing first.
Online is fucking horrible. I played it a bit for the past month and its just stupid.
I got the Bounty hunter licence via Twitch Prime and its bugged. I have been going back and forth with support since December 20th and after about 18 days they told me "we know its a issue and we're working on it".
Pitching a camp is broken as fuck, with Cripps (the fucking annoying online sidekick) moving it or packing it up all the fucking time.
Animal spawns are horrendous, sometimes finding animals to shoot is such a fucking pain in the ass, especially if you played through SP where they are everywhere.
The game really likes to go into infinite loading screen when you are doing a trade delivery and sometimes you lose 3 hours+ of your progress. Fun times!
But the worst thing IMO is....there's just nothing to do.
Its all one long grind for....nothing. After about a week of semi-regular play you can have the 3 guns you need and an OK horse. After 3 weeks you have all the guns and the horse you want and after that its just one long grind for....nothing. If you don't really care about outfits/customization of guns there's literally nothing to do. Story missions are boring as fuck since all of them are "ride there, kill a ton of enemies"... i just did daily missions for gold the last two weeks...
I understand most games are "go to X, kill everyone", but GTA at least has different modes of transport, so maybe you're using a chopper to kill everyone, you have multiple advanced guns and rocket launchers etc. It has more stuff so it makes the missions a bit more diverse. In RDR Online all you need is a bolt action rifle with a scope and a pump shotgun and you're golden.
I still think RDR2 is an extremely overrated game and it shows in RDR Online. Its a beautifully crafted world, with nothing to do in it.

to sum up your post, yeah basically. it's the minimum viable product, or perhaps minimum imagination on rockstars part.
i quit when i missed a day of the gold grind bonus and it reset the constant disconnect fuckery mostly killed it for me. if they can't fix their shitty networking, how about saving the state of our horse and pelts etc. this is rocket science obviously
i'm still only about 3 hours into the single-player, i ought to return to it but i'm busy playing games with gameplay right now.
edit: i should mention fallout 76 was FAR better even with many of the same retarded problems
No idea what happened lately in the Online mode, but things are getting fucked beyond measure.
Many simple features that worked before now are bugged / not working. Some examples of things not working:
• accessing the moonshack
• accessing the trader table
• fast traveling to camp
• camp missing
• camp overlapping
• bounties not working
• treasures not registering as completed
• using menu to fast travel to camp / travel to certain area
• item discounts and their display in the menus
etc. etc. etc.
This is the most broken (online) game I've ever played in my life. Not even... Boiling Point The Road to Hell wasn't this broken...
Bought it on November 12th, lvl 75, got all the roles almost maxed out without spending any real money - I've had a fucking blast with this game, both SP and online. Such an amazing contrast to that cold, sterile GTA 5 city world and compared to some utter MP shit out there that I've tried like Warframe or Fortnite, this kind of stuff just clicked with me right away.
Tried online for a bit, and I kept exploding. Turns out some guy is running around with invisibility and super speed, planting invisible dynamite around players.

yeah i ran into that one about a month ago, some real intelligent networking going on here
they usually don't have to plant dynamite, they are just spawning explosions on your character directly.
rockstar are basically too dumb to block it.
I finished this game. I finished it. It was so boring I don't think I ever played a more boring game than this one.
I actually really like it, although I don't play it like I normally do other games. I play if for an hour or so after work to unwind and it's a very chill game. I'll probably play it for a couple more months since it's huge and I do only a couple of missions per day. Overall I think it's very immersive for what it tries to achieve. Hopefully R* changes the mission structure for its next game.

That's exactly how I see it
It'll take me months and months to finish this but I don't mind
