4 cheap studio monitors (https://jblpro.com/en-US/products/308p-mkii).
3 DIY speakers that can act as subwoofers. These are passive, so they need an amp.
7.1 AV-Receiver (some Denon 2309 i think)
Because this weird setup is not supported by anything im telling windows I have a 7.1 setup and use software (EqualizerAPO) to do my own bass management with the center and surround back channels for my subwoofers. This way my AV-Receiver will amplify their signals. This works well for music and movies (movies required some mixing of surround backs though). But I found metro rearranges the channels*. Games nowadays simply assume the speaker configuration set in windows, which usually makes sense to be fair, but not in my case.
My question: Is there a software that would allow me to setup a virtual output device (perhaps as a 4.1 or 5.1 setup) that maps to my current 7.1 device?
A better solution would be with some multiple external devices including a dsp so I could connect my switch as well. I want to deal with that later though, because there is issues with HDMI support (license and copyright BS im sure, fuck hdmi).
* metro switches the surround backs with the surrounds. Think about that for a second. When you pan a sound source from centered in front of you to centered back it will first move towards your side, then teleport to the back and later to the sides again. Makes for a weird experience
