but as i said before: i would go for a used combo with 2500k and z-board to overclock, you have to invest a bit in a good cpu-cooler but that should be worth it end end out with the same price as a new i3 but with much more power
A used and likely OC'ed CPU from 4.5 years back? Now it's my turn to ask what the hell are you drinking/smoking Laughing
Besides morph has already said that OC is not an option.

I know and you are right, but it's not an option so there is no point for me to entertain the thought. Smile

And pretty much what Toni said: I can't guarantee her how it's been used (which is her biggest reason to not go for it). In Belgium I could, since it would come from my former work place or from the local PC shops I worked with.

atleast go for a used gfx card, you could get a 680 or 770 for about ~150 euros. saves you more than 100 euros which can be invested in i5-4460 or maybe even a xeon 1231v3

This I can agree with, but I'm guessing that the GF will probably be against used stuff

Who says I was used, I'm Christian!'

Anywho crisis averted, I did convince her of bumping that stretched budget a bit more for an i5.

Anywho... still don't forget we are not building a PC for you or me. She demands a bit less from the gaming experience than I or most of us do. Smile

so u are still unused? NO KNICKNACK BEFORE MARRIAGE U CHRISTIAN U! Razz

sure she does, but when you can save money i.e. on buying used gfx card you can invest in a xeon, the ht might be usefull in the future, or not, how knows. but as she doesnt want to oc the xeon is good thing if the money is there. simple fact that you dont get to upgrade the 1150 plattform in 2 years cause no new cpus coming

It doesn't count when it's in the butt! Poker Face

Janz... I said it before: it's not an option. So no matter how much we will talk about it. It's not going to happen. So I really don't feel like putting more thought or time on it.

It will be new gear and no OC. She won't steer away from that.
The help is appreciated... just that it's not useful for this build. Smile

Well... it escalated it a bit.

Ended up with i5-4690k, since the one we were going for in the end wasn't available and her PSU crapped out. So no more time to wait

We found a nice deal on a: Sapphire Radeon NITRO R9 380 Dual X OC AMD Graphics Card - 4GB
1990 SEK, ordered that yesterday... today it costs 2390, which is the normal price everywhere else. Still it's shipped at the 1990 price which allowed us to go for better CPU and Mobo.

Went with an Asus Z87 board, twas the right price on that as well. I just need to do an USB BIOS flashback to make the CPU work with it.

Had a nice deal on another case as well, a cooler master which will have more space. Rest stayed the same: proper psu and 8gb of ram.

It's the best we could do with the budget, so I'm happy with it. And hey 300 bucks more expensive than the original setup isn't that bad (mostly thanks to some price hunting).

nice one Smile

but dont expect that usb flash without cpu working flawless, just hope the board already has a newer bios installed which supports the haswell refresh cpu (should be a bios revision which is out since over one year which added support for that cpu). format stick with fat32, plug it in on the back side, usb2 port. buttom left port it was always i think (or right) which could be used for this, but it has no 100% success quota

Aye, read up on it before ordering. Smile
I'm expecting it already has the updated bios, but the specs never mentioned bios version nor could the store answer it.

We'll see how it goes Smile

Mmm seems the delivery went rather fast this time. Picking up the case and gpu today and tomorrow the rest arrives.

Then it's having fun with building and installing! Yup... I really do love that shit (unless it's because of failure on my system) Razz

Nah I think I can handle, used to build PC's by orders in the hundreds Wink

(that being said: I'm taking it slow and take nothing for granted... shit happens when you are over confident )

Building my wifey a little "budget" pc...

It's not for gaming, mind you.

Got a

ASUS P8Z68-V PRO + i7-2600K + 16GB RAM for around 100€

and adding (new) for also around 100€:

Eurocase Micro Tower MC X202
WD Green 3D Nand SATA - 240GB
Xilence Performance C Serie - 400W

So, complete PC for around 200€

Then I'll add an old 770 I've laying around + give her my old, but still pretty ok
"Asus 27" 1080p" monitor. While on the same occasion I'm getting a 32" 1440p for me Smile
