"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
The audiobooks read by Jefferson Mays are pretty good, after S4 you could start with Audiobook 5 and see what Inaros is gonna do next.
Considering this was the lamest book that season turned out to be really good
The show is relatively close to the novels and S4 contains parts of book 5 already, even sets it up in a way the 4th book never did - should all transition rather smoothly
8 so far of 9 planned. And a couple of short stories. I like Books 7 & 8 best, should be around Season 6-7 in the show. (it is possible they compress both books 5+6 into the next season)
@Shocktrooper Thanks. I’m just going to rush through them.

Finished yesterday the 4th... what can I say...mixed feelings.
Pace is quite slow most of the time: from a possibly endless possibilities thanks to the portals, this season's focus goes on the closer colonizable planet and makes it all happen there.
Usual rage between martians, earthers and belters, unusual amount of politics on Avasarala's side, a quite useless Roberta sideplot, the usual cliffhanger.
Finally some light shed on Miller's fate and role, and some direct explanation of the whole plot.
In general, a little less good than the other seasons, but not bad.
The problem is that she's one of the best characters from the books, but everytime that woman starts to talk with that voice and those lips, it's ruined for me. She's also a terrible actress IMO.
Absolutely hate the voice.
About the quality of actors: Expanse doesn't have the most brilliant cast. Easily spotted the moment they have to perform drama. Can be a pain to watch at times.
Overall it's serviceable though and I have seen way worse.

Exactly, serviceable would be the adjective that I would use as well to describe the show. It's lucky to be airing in a time when quality TV sci-fi is practically nonexistent, so we're more forgiving when it comes to the decent-ish writing and questionable acting from squintymen Holden, Kiwibobbie, and Patty and Selma's lost sister. The high production values definitely help as well, and this season is even better in that regard.
I'm enjoying it, but I'd lie if I said that it's improved over the years. It still has permanent anaerobic Syfy protomolecule living inside it
I find the Ring stuff quite confusing and not really explained in a way that makes any sense. Suddenly its just introduced and for some reason they want to go through it? Why would they suddenly trust these hostile beings or anything that they've created. Why would you assume you can go through it?
Also at one point they even show the Belters going through the ring (the big ship poking through the blue matter, going in), and later, in the next episode, they're still not through and Naomi decides she instead want to go back to Holden and his crew so she flies off.
I liked the first half of the season, but then this Melba chick with superhuman abilities is introduced, total fucking bore, blond religious woman is a bore too and so fucking cringe.
Spoiler:
Isn't this the Belters ship? It goes through and obviously you're quite excited to see what happens next. But in the next episode they are not through and Naomi decides she's not coming with them. Miller also tells Holden he's the first to go through when they approach it so i guess the event with the ships going though hasn't happened. Editing is really shit, like no fucks are given.
Wow, it's pretty impressive that they'll manage to release a new season only 12 months after the last one with the year that we've had because of the pandemic.
Canceled after Season 6
Not enough to wrap up the book series story. Either they'll rush through it or skip the final books altogether
Also, no Alex in Season 6 because the actor got #metoo'd
The last few books can easily be compressed into one IMO, too much bullshit after book 3. I hope they wrap it up properly, I'm not getting the sense the book author wants to end his series untill he drops dead of old age. That's the problem with such series, once the author gets big moniez he doesn't want it to end.
I read most of it last year and i agree it get's gradually worse. One more season should be plenty especially if they do a 13 ep season again. I sure hope they do a better job with the ending then the 100 that one was unbearable and i really don't want to see another one my favorite scifi shows end like that.
