I'm waiting for english reviews. Polish reviews states that it's well made but boring.
sar·casm | \ ˈsär-ˌka-zəm \
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
b: the use or language of sarcasm
Well, there is a 0 score on meta. The reviewers are not too bright from what i read though and didn't even watch the whole thing
Basically reviewers call the show boring (or slow-paced when the reviewer is playing nice), Jaskier (Dandelion) is annoying (if they knew ) and Geralt's costume sucks ass.
What's up with the ugly ass grey filter?! It makes me think of some cheaply produced black metal video from the late 90's. "we got to make it look depressing!" It really made me cringe, a fantasy series should not remind me of some music video.
CGI (like magic and sometimes things like buildings) looks so fucking cheap too.
The actors are.. "ok" but also generic and rather meh, it's not like they totally immerse you from the get-go like in e.g GoT.
The locations are cool, the fighting was decent. But nah, overall this felt cheap, especially due to how fucking ugly it looks, i can't get immersed in the rather interesting/beautiful scenery if you overprocess the image with some dumb fucking instagram-filter. Doh.
I'm guessing the CGI looked so shit and disconnected that they came up with the "brilliant" idea to dull everything down with filters "no one will notice and everything will blend really nicely!!" Amateur hour.
Henry Cavill would rather be at home right now, without the fame, without the attention, sitting at his gaming PC in shorts and a T-shirt, playing Total War: Warhammer II.
Yes, Henry Cavill. Superman.
And yes, Warhammer. The game with little plastic goblins.
And he’s played it through six times already, accounting for hundreds of hours of gameplay (“With six different races! And I love it each time!”).
Quote:
“At home, I get to sit playing games for ridiculous amounts of hours and escape there, because going outside has the opposite effect.”
Quote:
“My first involved experience [with the franchise] was The Witcher 3,” he tells me, explaining how he’s now played developer CD Projekt Red’s 100-hour role-playing epic two-and-a-half times to completion, experimenting with different difficulty settings, first on regular difficulty and then on the game’s toughest setting, in order to find the perfect balance of fun and challenge.
“It’s all well and good when you’re trying not to stress out,” he says, “but then I realised I wasn’t chilling out. I just ended up dying at the wrong points and thinking, ‘I should not have left the roads. I don’t know why I left the roads.’ I couldn’t run away fast enough or my attention span dropped for a second or I answered a text and now I’m dead and that’s six or seven hours of gameplay that I’ve just messed up.”
Quote:
Warhammer and The Witcher aren’t his only big gaming passions. He reminisces fondly about playing games with his brothers, cramped around his mother's dining room table in makeshift LAN parties. He grew up on games such as Delta Force and Half Life. In the former, his brothers toyed with one another endlessly. Especially, he says, when his younger brother was repeatedly killing his elder – a serving member of the armed forces – to great personal frustration. Eventually, though, the tables turned. “He actually started using military tactics, so my youngest brother was getting slayed at every corner,” Cavill says, laughing.
Now, though, it’s time for him to head to the premiere, another global appearance as one of entertainment's most bankable stars. Until later, of course: when it's back to his Kensington home, back into shorts and T-shirt and back into Warhammer.
“There’s just something about those games that I find so satisfying,” he says. “There’s new DLCs coming out all the time and I’m looking forward to whatever the next one is.”
PC superma(n)ster race
The golden moment was him being asked in an interview by NME : "Xbox or PS" and he said "PC" *Pcmasterrace intensifies*
I guess after the latest Mission Impossible he became jealous of Cruise's stunts. Oh, well. I mean, it's not like every sword strike in the show is made out of many cuts but still it could be much better.
We'll see if the striga fight is any better.
I value Cavill's dedication and being a member of the glorious pc masterrace but that is not enough.
Here's a fight scene with a certain princess' gang from the first ep :

This is good, it's just that the stunt people he's killing make silly faces and their acting is off. Cavill is good.

But in the end, Netflix's The Witcher is simply broken. Like the original stories, it begins in media res for Geralt of Rivia, so game fans hoping to learn more about the witcher himself won't find an origin story here. And by trying and utterly failing to cram new and remixed backstories for Yennefer and Ciri in without making any attempts to place each plotline within the larger story, The Witcher completely falls apart. Game fans who haven't read the books will be totally befuddled, and book readers will be scratching their heads just as frequently. If you're utterly devoted to the world of The Witcher, you'll certainly enjoy the familiar aesthetic and characters, but beyond that, this series is hard to recommend.
4/10 - Poor
Quote:
The Good
Henry Cavill perfectly portrays the brooding witcher Geralt of Rivia
Other great casting, including Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Joey Batey as Jaskier/Dandelion
Production design and action do the original stories justice
The Bad
Confusing structure that constantly cuts between unrelated stories taking place decades apart
Filled with stiff, pointlessly cryptic dialogue
Attempts to portray important moments from the books while changing key points around them, with nonsensical results
Yennefer's backstory, created for the show, is poorly written and filled with baffling moments
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
It's still just an average Netflix show. I think some of you are judging the production values by GoT, movie, etc. standards. I judge it by comparing to ABC, CW, etc. shows, and that clip looked more involved than that, as it should be.
But I've only seen that one clip, so...

"Like Nothing On Earth"
Fights improve as season moves on.
It's mostly for wamen like game of thrones.
Titties added for men. It's a wamen centric show...
No cavil penis this season. Maybe next.

The reviewer didn't like the first half hour then jumped to episode 5 in hopes it will be more interesting, it still seemed like a borefest to him so he rated it F (0/10) and dropped it.
(I'm laughing at the reviewer, not the show. I have no idea how good/bad it is, but that's NOT how you are supposed to review.)

The "mainstream" "journalists" are a laughing stock. I am guessing this will be 5/10 "critic" and 9.8/10 "audience", just because "critics" are morons and audience is biased because of games. So probably the "real" score is somewhere in the middle.

Yep, already mentioned that. Professional job

Doubt it. 5/10 media, 6/10 audience IMO. That's where it's at now. Unless a purge occurs like in the case of a certain japcrap game

The mediocre reception was expected. It was obvious they didn't have the budget to make it an epic of big proportions like GoT. It reminded me of those Hallmark movies from 20 years ago. They should've at least secured a good director to compensate for the lack of funds. It's a quick cash in, I don't think it will be renewed after S2. Sapkowski is very happy though, he secured that bag. I can't think of another creator in recent years who gives less of a fuck about his work as long as he gets paid.
On the bright side I'm sure all the reddit and tumblr ladies will love it or at least force themselves to say they like it.
80 mil for 8 eps, not sure if it is that low budget. They could always skip the more budget-heavy stuff like scrotum battles.
Check out the interview with Sapkowski, a page or so back. He looks money-content
