Why does it matter if it's a movie?
Aren't we all in agreement that TV series, for example, is a better medium for space operas?
BSG, Star Trek, Babylon 5, even the short lived Firefly series + movie—they all have much more coherent and fleshed out worlds, not full of convenient contradictions for silly slapstick story purposes.
Perhaps Star Trek, it has plenty of slap stick and silliness though. Never been a fan of it. Firefly, no way, it's so fucking overrated, just copy/paste of better sci-fi and westerns. It reminded me of Xena or crap like Stargate.

I have my fair share of problems with Star Trek, and their utopian portrayal of the future, but world building has been incredibly strong, especially in TNG+DS9.
Mendelson in his review writes how in contrast to how the Lucas trilogies were films made for kids, this one is being made to pander to manbaby fans of the OG trilogy
lol so who did they make the movies for? if you're not a fan of the original trilogy, then why would you want to watch this last trilogy. if someone is just making super high budget movies to piss people off then yeah, i'm not sure you can be a bigger manchild than that, an expensive one at that

It's not just made for the original fans, it panders to them constantly. Big difference.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Saw it on the premiere on wednesday. Loved it considering the shitty episode 8. He did a great job of "ignoring" episode 8. And no SJW bullshit in this one. Gonna see it again next week! But it feels like he tried to put 2 movies into one. Lots of stuff happening all the time. Abrams should have directed ep 8 aswell.
It was.... watchable. I liked it better than the previous movie for sure, which i expected. Plenty of shitty moments that makes no sense or are just cringy a dumb. Technically really fantastic, tone and settings are cool. Story is really shit. If you enjoyed Aquaman (which i did) you'll enjoy this too.. It's a 6.5 for me.
watch it in the cinema or just ignore it is my advice, its not a movie that will be good unless you have a projector + big screen and a good sound system, that's where most of the quality lies.
