While watching this show and being somewhere at 5th or 6th episode I started wondering if I really liked it. I mean the acting is good, the sceenplay is nice, it looks all great but... its a real slow burn and was wondering where it was going and if I honestly wanted to keep at it.
And then that 7th episode came and holy fucking hell... it was worth going through with it.
The writing on that... brilliant. Every little detail came back for a pay off. Near the end I started wondering: this reminds me a bit of Arrival... and 5 seconds later Max Richter - On the Nature of Daylight starts to play... My mind fucking blown.
Started watching due to good reception here but boy it's not engaging.

I'll have to pass on S02, my relationship with the first season was not a very pleasant one. It had its atmospheric moments here and there (with episode 7 being the highlight, really quality television ), but as a whole I found both the writing and characters surprisingly unremarkable. As if the show was designed with a special invisible neuralyzing tech that makes you instantaneously forget what you just watched.

First episode was duuull until the very end when things took off and ep 2 and 3 continued with better pacing and stuff happening.
Spoiler:
There are a lot of references to King stories (I might be wrong in some of them but..). Some I did think of was Pet Sematary, Sometimes They Come Back, Misery (most obvious), Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, Salem's Lot, Needful Things and some others as well).
